About this property

Waterfront Cottage - Up North Perfection Awaits.

If you are looking for the quintessential 'Up North' experience, you have found it. Perched on top of a gradual hill overlooking Suttons Bay, our cottage sits on 5 wooded acres. While relaxing on our 212' feet of private shoreline you will feel like the Bay is yours alone. You can enjoy panoramic views of Old Mission Peninsula and Stony Point, and take in the natural beauty of Northern Michigan in complete privacy.

At roughly 1,400 square feet our cottage is large enough for as many as 8 people, but cozy enough for one couple. This cozy cottage has original oak floors (refinished in 2024), knotty pine walls throughout, and a wonderful sunroom. A floor-to-ceiling wood burning fireplace is a great way to top off the evening and enjoy the cottage's atmosphere. Also be witness to a rich variety of wildlife, including a family of swans, loons, ducks, and even the occasional bald eagle.

Enjoy our outdoor amenities, including three sea kayaks; a rowboat; and a professionally installed mooring anchor for your boat. A swimmer friendly dock, large sandy beach, bay-side fire pit, and horseshoe pit, round off the front yard features.

This charming original log cabin restores the nostalgia of your Up North memories. It is truly your home away from home.

Family with Teens - Perfect Location

This is our 3rd stay and it was perfect. The location is close to everything Leelanau has to offer but still feels secluded and private. The big grassy lawn is great for games the kitchen had all we needed to keep our teens fed. When we didn’t want to cook terrific restaurant options are just down the road. Great location for biking, wine and cider tasting or kayaking the bay. We can’t wait to go back!

Up North Bliss

This home was the perfect setting for our family vacation! Harry is the perfect host and very responsive. The home is full of extra amenities that were very appreciated; plenty of paper products, blankets, games, and a fully stocked kitchen (which is not always the case with a rental). Our family loved the use of the kayaks and SUPs, the kids played for hours in the water and on the beach and the adults relaxed in plenty of comfortable outdoor seating. We loved the private setting and gorgeous views! Traverse City, Leland and Sleeping Bear Dunes were a close day trip and the beautiful outdoor setting at the Hop Lot Brewing Co in Suttons Bay was a pleasant surprise. We would love to come back!

Couldn’t wait to book again

Absolutely gorgeous property, had everything we needed and more. We had so much fun grilling, kayaking, playing on the beach and huge backyard, having bonfires, etc. We had so many sightseeing plans in the area that we canceled just to stick around and enjoy the beach. We got so spoiled with this house, we don’t want to stay anywhere else now!

Dreamcatcher is the Best!

This was our first family vacation with our baby Granddaughter, and our first time at Suttons Bay proper. We were delighted with all aspects of the home, lake, and property! The kitchen has been beautifully updated and provided a great focal point for the beauty of the lake. So much fun cooking and handing plates over the counter to the enclosed dining area that opens up to a large deck overlooking the lake. The home was definitely large enough for 7 adults and a 12 month old. So many places to read, play games, etc. The beach addition was fantastic for lounging, reading, swimming, and playing with a child. We rented a pontoon boat for 2 days (we went to lunch at Knot Just a Bar in Omena Bay), and the pier is great for docking. The ability to use the kayaks and SUPS was wonderful and the bay is beautiful. Croquet set and hammock were appreciated. The newer outdoor furniture was great to sit and relax in the evenings (one night, we were lucky to observe a meteor shower!). The town of Suttons Bay has plenty of cute shops and restaurants, and Leland (with charming historic Fishtown) is only ~ 15 minutes away...The Cove restaurant did not disappoint. Washer and Dryer in the large "mud room" was nice to have. Harry our host was fantastic. Wish we could have stayed 2 weeks...maybe next time!

This Property Used to Be a Dream...

This property used to be a dream...but has turned a tired nightmare. Overall, the property is very worn. On the interior, there are large scuff marks on the floor and walls. Chipped paint, patched drywall that hasn't been painted, water stains on wood, broken moulding on doors, and drooping curtain rods. The air conditioning unit in the "children's room" with bunk beds does not work and one of the burners on the gas range does not work. The floors were dirty and required us to wear shoes or socks at all times. All of this could be overlooked as "rustic" but there is a much more serious problem. The cabin is infested, inside and out, with spiders. Thick webs can be seen around the entire exterior of the home and around windows. Even worse, we found them alive in the beds of 3 out of the 4 bedrooms. 3 of us were bitten including my 2 year old daughter on her face while she slept. They are so prevalent that there are even webs underneath the bunk bed. As is, this property is no where near the all in price we paid at close to $550 a night. With the spider infestation, I question if it's even rentable/inhabitable. I reached out to the owner before leaving a review in hopes to education him on the current condition. I sent multiple videos and images showing all of the challenges we encountered. Sadly, all I received back was useless substantiation and excuses. The outdoor space and waterfront is truly a dream. The rest...judge for yourself.

Beautiful location

We loved the cottage!! So charming and clean. My family loved the extensive yard and beach front on the bay. Sunrises were amazing! We brought our paddle boards and had fun paddle boarding and kayaking on the bay. It was a little bit of heaven for us. So close to Sutton's bay and the Leelanau Trail. Thanks for having us. We'd love to return!

Beautiful location for a family getaway

We had a great time at The Dreamcatcher. It's a clean house with all the amenities needed for a relaxing getaway. The location is beautiful and just close enough to town. Also, just a bit away are Leland and Northport. We would definitely book another stay at The Dreamcatcher.

Lovely Michigan Vacation

Great family spot. Sutton's Bay is super cute (good pizza, ice cream, beach playground, movie theater). Wonderful hikes nearby (Leelanau State Park, Sleeping Bear Dunes, and a few random hikes with stunning views). We loved kayaking and we played a bunch of croquet! Owner was kind and responsive to the very normal issues that arose. Having a washer and dryer was great. Lots of ants in the yard, but that's nature! Oh, and we had more s'mores at the campfire than I would like to admit.

Sutton's Bay in the heart of Leelanau

We have a terrific vacation at the Dreamcatcher. The location makes experiencing the entire Leelanau peninsula super easy. Biking the TART trail to Traverse City (stopping at the Farm Club!), exploring Northport and must see Cathead Bay, climbing Sleeping Bear dunes with lunch in Glen Arbor. And, of course, relaxing at the lake, enjoying the wide grassy yard and dock. A perfect week Up North! Thank you!

3 years and counting

We have already planned our 4th trip. This property is so beautiful and relaxing. We so look forward to returning. The owner has done a lot of nice upgrades in the past year. Stone patio with steps leading down to the lake. Removed window air conditioning units and put in central air. 3 new beach chairs. A new front door.

About the host

Host profile image
I live in metro Detroit and have enjoyed sharing the cottage with families and friends for over 15 years.

Why they chose this property

Our family purchased this cottage almost 50 years ago for its privacy and quality beachfront. Now in its second generation of ownership, the cottage has been thoughtfully updated, with modern indoor and outdoor amenities.

What makes this property unique

This property is unique for its amenities, privacy, and size. The five-acre parcel is one of the largest along the peninsula, and offers plenty of privacy from the road and from neighbors. The cottage is nestled atop a grassy bluff overlooking an enormous yard and over 210' of direct Grand Traverse Bay frontage. The property serves authentic up north vibes, while offering modern amenities to comfort your family and friends.
