About this property

Located in a Spectacular Rural Location Near Hellnar

The Glacier Lodge offers magnificent views of Snaefellsjokull to the north and a panorama across Faxafloi bay to the south. Built in 2010 and one of a small group of similar properties, this is a modern self-catering cottage of 100 sqm which can comfortably accommodate six adults.

Just a two hour drive from Reykjavik, this home away from home, is the perfect base from which to explore one of Iceland's most celebrated regions - the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.

South facing and with a light open plan design, the lodge sleeps up to eight people in three second floor bedrooms (one with a double bed and two with twins) and a fold out double sofa-bed located on the landon. There is a fully equipped modern kitchen, plus a dining area.
- Parking
- Private bathroom
- Tea and coffee making facilities
- Fridge
- Dishwasher

During the winter time, the road leading to the Glacier Lodge may be impassable and you may need to park on the Hellnar road (Road 5730) and walk over to the lodge.

Away from light pollution and with vast open skies, Glacier Lodge is in an excellent position for watching displays of the aurora borealis should they occur during your stay.

With the region's natural beauty on your doorstep, including the striking sea stacks of Arnarstapi, there are plenty of things to see and do from a variety of hiking trails, sailing excursions and whale and bird watching opportunities, to activities on and around nearby Snaefellsjokull glacier - including snowmobile.

Fabulous location

Very clean and tidy with comfortable beds. Quiet location, warm and homely would definitely stay there again. My only gripe would be that we had to strip our own beds and take our rubbish with us despite paying for cleaning. We couldn't find the bin mentioned in the house rules and ended up taking our rubbish all the way back to Reykjavik. Clearer instructions please.

Unforgettable View

This property has everything you need at the base of a stunning mountain. The ladder to the bedrooms is a little scary, but we managed it easily as older and able-bodied guests. We loved strolling the paths that surround the home .

Cozy & perfect location

Plenty of room for 3 adults & 1 teen. Ideal location for exploring the peninsula! Quiet yet didn’t feel isolated. Stairs are as described but manageable.

Great accommodations!

Property was exactly as described. Very clean and well kept. Stairs are very steep-exactly as the listing says.Good location for exploring the area. Was a cozy place to sleep. We only prepared breakfasts here, but everything was in good working condition. We highly recommend this accommodation.

Cozy clean cabin in stunning location

We were very happy with our stay. It was clean and comfortable. I had gotten the impression that it would be pretty bare bones and rustic but I found it cozy and stylish. Was pleasantly surprised. I’m glad I read about bringing our own toiletries. I’m also glad we had cell data as there is no wifi (it’s not just “spotty,” it doesn’t exist. There’s a wifi box there but no internet connected to it). We walked to the start of the Hellnar/Arnarstapi coastal hike which was awesome. Everywhere else we drove to but it was all quite close and easy. The view of the water and the glacier were stunning. The listing picture made the cabin seem isolated but it’s actually part of a little cluster of cabins. We had a great two days exploring the peninsula. Highlights: cave tour (reserve ahead), seal beach, Kirjufell, dinner at Hotel Budir, and the coastal hike I mentioned. Thank you so much!

Amazing family time in charming home

We spent two nights at the Glacier Lodge. It is so charming, welcoming, and well appointed. The location is lovely and peaceful. There are no stores within walking distance, however your are near an adorable cafe. We were so happy and everyone in my family loved our time at this home .

Beautiful house!

The house is just as advertised in the listing and photos. Beautiful location with sweeping views of the glacier (at least, in clear weather) and down toward the ocean, with an easy walking path to the rocky shore (with seabird colonies!) and on to the hiking trail to Arnarstapi. Fjöruhúsið café was a highlight of the location-- great food and beautiful views, especially in clear weather. As others warned, the stairs are treacherous, but that is well advertised. And, in high winds, which seem common here, the house does creak and rattle quite a bit, and it can be tricky to sleep with the noise. Would definitely return though!

Great clean house in picturesque setting

We had a wonderful stay at the Glacier Lodge and would highly recommend it. The Wi-Fi didn’t work but everything else about the house made up for it.

Good location

This is a very cute place. Unfortunately we were there during a storm and didn't get to experience much. Internet was not working but it may have been because of the storm. The biggest drawback of the property is the stairs. They are very step and narrow and not suitable for children or those with limited mobility. As all the bedrooms are upstairs, this could be a problem for some. Location of the property was great.

Great location near National Park

Beautiful cottage just outside of Snæfellsjökull National Park, with a glacier-topped volcano as a backdrop. Washer and dryer were a huge benefit, especially at the midpoint of our trip through Iceland. Comfy beds and well-appointed kitchen. Make sure you bring your own bath soap, hand soap, shampoo, paper towels, and dishwasher soap. Those were not included, but laundry detergent was available. Thank you for a lovely stay!

Adorable home with amazing views

Stayed with my husband and 3 young adult children. They don’t usually comment much about lodging, but all commented about how cute this home is. Was spacious, had everything we needed, and felt homey. Nicely decorated and well cared for. Gorgeous views of mountains and ocean. Would stay here again without reservation. The stairs to the upper level are very steep which is not a problem for us, but could be for those with mobility issues

Perfect place to stay in snefallness

Location is amazing... Unimpeded views of snaefelljokull in the back, great base for exploring the park, short walk to trail to arnastapi. The house is beautiful. Full of light, spacious and comfortable dining area and living room. Kitchen is fully functional and great to have washer and dryer. Bedrooms cozy and good beds. It was hard to leave.

Pleasant cottage on Penninsula

This cozy house is part of a cluster of cottages in the tiny village of Hellnar, easy walking distance to the lovely cliff walk to Arnarstapi and the cafe in Hellnar (open only 11-6 and the only place to eat in town). The house was great for our family of 6 with 3 snug bedrooms up a precipitously steep staircase and a comfortable, open lower floor with kitchen/living room/dining all attached. Huge bonus: washer and dryer; wet conditions in Iceland made that helpful. Windows have great view of mountain but glacier was nearly always obscured by cloud cover. Our one issue was that the house was not clean when we arrived (at check-in time and straight from the airport) - all the beds were slept in, filthy bathroom. We called the caretaker who dispatched a cleaner, but we weren't able to check in until 3 hours later. It was an unfortunate beginning but otherwise a pleasant stay.

Amazing Cozy Cabin with Fantastic Views of the Glacier and Ocean

Amazing spot to stay if you're visiting the Snaefellsness Peninsula. The great Hellnar to Arnastapi walk along the ocean starts just a 2-minute drive (or short walk) down to the water and all of the other great things to see in the national park and surrounding area are also really close. I was a little worried about booking this place as there were no recent reviews and there was a lot of availability when almost all of the similar places in the area were booked solid. But, after messaging the person handling the listing, they explained that the property had just been taken off the market for the past year or so with the Covid situation and had just recently been listed again. That said, getting into the cabin was just as described and everything else went very smoothly and was just about perfect. The place was really clean, comfortable and well decorated and had just about anything you could want (e.g., full kitchen, coffee maker, washer & dryer, etc.) There is no Wi-Fi but cell reception is actually really good and it's easy to set up a personal hotspot for a laptop or other devices if needed. Our only regret is that we were in a big rush to be on our way to see more of the country and only go to stay there one night. It definitely would have been great to have at least one more night there to relax and enjoy the surroundings and great views of the neaby glacier and ocean.
