About this property

Hen Ty LLaeth, Aberfforest, right on the beach and with uninterrupted sea views

Our cottage is a home from home, set above Aberfforest Beach with uninterrupted sea views from most rooms. Stroll down to the beach to explore or swim; enjoy walking along the Pembrokeshire coastal path, delighting in the beautiful coves and wildlife, take a short walk along the stream beside the cottage and through the ancient woodland to admire the waterfall, or relax on the patio, watching the sea and possibly the occasional seal, porpoise or dolphin swim by.
The cottage is well equipped for any holiday, providing accommodation for 7 in 4 bedrooms, together with an upstairs lounge, downstairs lounge and dining room and a conservatory. It can be enjoyed in any season from summer with patio furniture to enjoy the sea views through to winter, where full central heating and an aga means you can enjoy a bright crisp frosty morning or stormy sea views from the warmth of one of the two lounges.
Aberfforest is a very special bay on this beautiful coastline, blessed with tiny coves and a favourite haunt of seals and dolphins. The bay, which can only be approached by the general public via a long footpath, is almost private and has launching facilities available by prior arrangement. The small, sandy beach is perfect for swimming or kayaking. It is great for children of all ages to explore with interesting rock pools, sand to dig in or build a sandcastle, and a stream supplying water to any young dam-busters dream!
The Pembrokeshire Coast Path runs past Aberfforest; follow this for fantastic scenic walks to Newport beach and Dinas Head. The villages of Dinas and Newport with their shops, pubs and restaurants are under 2 miles away, a pleasant walk in good weather.
Our cottage is a great base to explore the beauty of Pembrokeshire, the wonderful coastline, the bustling picturesque towns and villages, and the fabulous coves, stretches of long sandy beaches and the mystical Preseli Hills. For the active person, there is lots to do from swimming, kayaking, sailing, boat trips (to see seals, dolphins and even puffins at the right time of year), coasteering, wild swimming, surfing, hiking and horse riding - to name but a few.

Ground Floor: Steps from parking area to entrance, hall, kitchen, lounge/diner, conservatory, double room/king size bed, twin room, bathroom/overhead shower/wc.

First Floor: Galleried 2nd lounge, single room, double room/king size bed, shower room/wc, desk area.

Parking: Ample in a private driveway.

Facilities: Electric oven and hob, AGA (which is switched off for the summer months), microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer, 2 TVs, Sky package, DVD player, mini Hi Fi system, WiFi, telephone - incoming calls only, garden furniture.

Pets/Animals: Not allowed due to our son's allergies.

We have rented our holiday home for 15+ years and we only started renting it via VRBO in late 2022. A few previous guest reviews, written in our guest book at the cottage, are included below for your benefit, in addition to those now on VRBO:

"Brilliant week. Third time visiting. Love it! Something for everyone. Walks, views, kayaking, swimming. Lovely to spend time together somewhere so relaxing and beautiful. Highlight for some: jungle shower in the waterfall. Will definitely come again!"

"We are sad to be leaving. What a view! What a welcoming home! Cannot wait to return. Dolphins swam with us! Seal caught a fish only 20 metres from us – spectacular!"

"After an extended journey here (one of us from the US), we woke up in the morning to be awed by the view! We went kayaking in this bay and saw several jellyfish and a seal (from about 2 metres away!) We were also apparently spied by a dolphin….Watched the fog roll over the water on the last day which was very dramatic!

'"A great property with spectacular views of huge waves"

"Thanks for sharing your lovely cottage. It was very clean and tidy. The view, beach and tranquillity were idyllic. Cottage was very comfortable and well-equipped. We had a lovely time exploring the area."

"The view and proximity to the beach here are gems for a family holiday - we loved kayaking from St David's and have been venturing around the local bays - loads of fun! This holiday cottage has provided us with a warm abode whilst we get to know this beautiful area of Wales. Waterfall is truly magical!!"

Relaxing Break

We booked the house because of the location and access to the coastal paths. It did not disappoint. Sat with a morning coffee over looking the bay while waiting for the kids to wake was perfect. One day we went one way on the coastal path, the next the other. It was the reset we needed for the start of half term.

Hen Ty Llaeth

We had a lovely week at this excellent cottage which is set in the most stunning location overlooking Aberfforest beach. The cottage has everything you could wish for, is well equipped and is spotlessly clean. It is so peaceful here. We loved sitting in the second lounge upstairs looking out at the bay and watching the sunsets. If you are new to the area, the information centre in Newport is very good and the staff very helpful. Newport has some great places to eat and for lunch we enjoyed a meal at the Blas at Fronlas bistro. The nearby village of Nevern is lovely with a beautiful church and excellent walks - we enjoyed a meal at the Trewern Arms there. We’d love to return and thank you Moira for all your help

A magical stay!

We had a wonderful stay. The house is in an AMAZING location and our boys (aged 2 and 5) had the best time playing on the beach and the surrounding area. The house was really well set up and we just loved sitting in the upstairs living room watching the sea. We will be back!

Aberfforest Beach

The property is in a great location with fantastic views, very warm, comfortable and well appointed. We had a brilliant week with family despite the vagaries of Pembrokeshire weather. It was really good to be so close to the beach and walk the coast path without having to to drive!

Another lovely short break at Aberfforest.

We have visited Aberfforest and Newport a couple of times recently. Always very relaxing and a chance to recharge the batteries. Newport itself has a selection of pubs and restaurants. (Blas is our favourite). Newport Beach, about 15 minutes drive away, has an excellent cafe. Take your binoculars and stop at the estuary bridge on the way for a spot of birdwatching. Slightly more energetic are the cliff walks from Aberfforest beach to the remains of the church at Cwm-yr-Eglwys and the Parrot and into Newport. We tend to visit off season. There is no shortage of things to do, whatever the weather. Will definitely be back.

Excellent place for family

We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed a a lot. The house was clean and everything was there. Location and view to sea was amazing. Communication was very easy with the owner and she replied in a couple of minutes when needed something. A hot tub could add more value for holiday at this place. Definitely recommending

Amazing property, a real hidden gem.

I'd like to start off by thanking Moira for her amazing communication. We arrived to a clean, fresh and beautiful property and even some Welsh cakes! We were both blown away by the sea view and what felt like our own private beach! Very friendly neighbours as well. The waterfall at the back of the house was a pleasant surprise when exploring along the river, lots of fun spots to discover, with amazing walks on top of the hill! The Aga is a lovely touch and fantastic for cooking a full English. On the topic of food, we visited The Canteen in Newport, which was a lovely pizza place that even offered a gluten free base for myself. We are also tempted to steal a few design ideas from the downstairs bathroom! Overall we really enjoyed our stay, the house was lovely and homely with some great activities and beaches nearby. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a great stay, Olivia

Excellent high spec property in beautiful location

As soon as you come to the end of the farm track and see the bay, you know you are in for a relaxing couple of weeks. My wife and I had visited Hen Ty Llaeth many years ago, but this time came with her father and his friend, both in their 80's. They appreciated having two ground floor bedrooms with stunning views over the coastline and wooded hills. They also loved the conservatory where they spent a lot of time enjoying the sunshine and doing a massive jigsaw !! The newly refitted downstairs bathroom is super with a enormous bath and great shower. My wife and I walked both ways along the cliff path, to the next bay at Cwm yr Eglwys and also towards Newport. You probably need to be reasonably fit for the cliff paths, but we also found nice level walking along the estuary the other side of Newport and from Newport Beach. We loved experimenting with cooking on the Aga, which is on in the winter months. We cooked several meals and our porridge every day. I was surprised how quickly I got used to using it. (There is also a traditional oven and hob if you prefer). We visited Newport several times. It is a very pretty place, only a five minute drive from the cottage. There are plenty of places to eat and a range of shops. We did wonder before arriving whether things would be open off-season, but we needn't have worried. Most things were open and there seems to be a thriving local community. Highly recommend Blas coffee shop and next door Tides restaurant/cafe for yummy coffee , cake and lunch. Also had lunch at the Castle Inn, with home made veggie food. As we were largely self catering it was useful to have the Spar in Newport and the traditional butchers (for meat eaters) with an extensive range of fresh fruit and vegetables (which suited us!) That with a couple of trips to the larger Coop in Fishguard met our needs without needing to go further. We had planned to do a bit more travelling but actually spent a lot of our time relaxing in the cottage, enjoying the view of the changing sea from the upstairs lounge and watching the birds flying across the valley. (Although St David's Cathedral and City (very small city!!)is a must.) Felt so chilled at the end of the two weeks - a perfect spot for recharging the batteries. The whole place is just so peaceful, a retreat from the busy world. Beautiful memories - We hope to return.

Absolute gem!

This is THE place! The house was immaculate, the setting is unique and incredible. It was really clean and tidy and everything was in good condition. It is equipped with everything, and I mean everything one would need domestically with the wonderful bonus of an Aga. Our bed was very comfortable with no hills or valleys, not too hard and not too soft. The lounge and dining area were perfect for us two but would be even more perfect for larger families as would the further bedrooms and bathrooms. The upper lounge with its big apex window looking out to sea was a perfect spot for chilling out. The house has a spacious conservatory with a sofa and table and chairs. It’s delightful whatever the weather to sit and watch the sea and sky changing with the light. The woods and stream to the side were an added bonus especially with the magical waterfall. In the warmer weather the patio would be a great place to spend a lazy afternoon. We feel that we have found a truly special place to spend a holiday. It would be utterly magical place for children to have adventures on the almost private little beach and it’s surrounds. As it was us two oldies did a lot of gazing at the wildlife, the sea, the night sky and the forest and discovering some of the best unspoilt and peaceful places in the world. Thank you to Moira for sharing your wonderful home it was absolutely perfect.

About the host

Hosted by Moira Edwards

Host profile image
We bought our cottage over 17 years ago and our twins have grown up enjoying the beach and loving Pembrokeshire, in all weathers. It is an old converted milk house, which is where the name comes from, being part of the old farm location before the farm moved to its current location, up the hill behind us.
We enjoy sharing our holiday home and have rented it out since then to holidaymakers. We have taken care to ensure that guests and their families/friends have what they need to make their stay enjoyable and very comfortable. Our guests seem to love the location and the cottage as much as we do.

Please note, with we always respond promptly to Request to Book during UK "waking" hours.

Why they chose this property

Aberfforest Bay is a special place. You will often have the beach to yourselves and it changes all of the time with calm clear seas one day and mild rolling waves the next to a rough rolling surf later on. For our children, the beach has suited them as toddlers through adolescence to young adults - never a dull moment!
Being right on the coastal path allows ramblers to walk out the door and just go!. For those who want to explore the coastline, you can walk to Newport for a coffee or lunch, or in summer, there is a shorter walk to Cwm Yr Eglwys for an ice-cream (suitable for younger little legs too!). The short walk up the valley to the waterfall is amazing too.
The views from the house are uninterrupted and always changing. You can enjoy them in any weather. We never tire from watching the sea from the patio on warm days, or the upstairs lounge when it gets a bit cooler. It is cool in summer due to the thick walls and cozy in winter with full central heating and an aga in the kitchen. I sometimes " work from home" here and I can choose from several sea view locations to work - very distracting!!
The local area has some amazing beaches and walks, boat trips, kayaking, horse-riding and golf. Newport has everything you need from shopping, cafes and restaurants/take-aways.
You can drive to anywhere in Pembrokeshire from our cottage, having trips to the busier coastal resorts or theme parks in the south, to stunning long sandy beaches in the west, and a visit to the smallest city in the UK, St Davids.
A favourite outing of ours are the boat trips out to the islands on a rib, the kids have loved it too from a young age, watching seals, having dolphins swim alongside the boat, and this summer we walked amongst Puffins too!

What makes this property unique

The uniqueness of our location was what sold it to us many years ago. Being on the beach, with unobscured sea views from most rooms and the ability to watch the wildlife whatever the weather is what we enjoy. The cottage has everything you could need for a happy holiday - a real "home from home". I love my AGA too!!
It is a great base to explore Pembrokeshire from as well.

Thank you for looking at our cottage. We are confident that you will have an amazing holiday here and look forward to welcoming you to our home.
