About this property
Beautiful, 17th century Lake District cottage close to village and mountains
Nestled within Dixon Ground, Coniston is the perfectly picturesque Bend or Bump. The cottage has been recently, and beautifully, renovated by its current owners to create a comfortable, cosy holiday home that you'll want to return to again and again.
Ideally situated close to the all the amenities of the village, Bend or Bump is an adorably quaint 17th century cottage which also benefits from spectacular walks, such as Coniston Old Man, accessible straight from the front door. This quintessential Lake District Cottage is simply packed with character and charm throughout, but with modern facilities to ensure a comfortable and restful holiday awaits all who stay here.
Inside, the historic cottage boasts a beautifully finished cottage kitchen and a beamed, yet surprisingly spacious, sitting & dining room which is warmed by a large log-burning stove. Upstairs are two comfortable bedrooms and the house bathroom. And it's upstairs that the reason this curiously named cottage is called "Bend or Bump" will become immediately apparent! While outside guests will be able to relax in the pretty patio garden and enjoy the open views across to the Yewdale Fells - Lake District perfection!
In short this endlessly charming cottage is perfect for couples or smaller families looking for a cosy, characterful cottage which is full of Lakeland appeal but with amenities and the great outdoors right on the doorstep.
Ground Floor
The main entrance to bend or Bump is at the rear of the cottage. Upon entering you find yourself in a bright and sunny newly-fitted kitchen, flooded with light from the roof windows and beautifully appointed with shaker style units and modern appliances. Here you'll find everything you need for a self-catering holiday including an electric hob and oven, dishwasher, washing machine, coffee maker, fridge and separate freezer.
Beyond the kitchen is the beamed yet spacious sitting and dining room, with comfortable seating arranged in front a log-burning stove above which sits a large, Smart TV - the perfect place for cosy evenings after busy days exploring. There's plenty of room for dining too with a dining table and chairs for 6 - an ideal place for energy-boosting breakfasts and hearty evening dinners in front or a roaring fire.
First Floor
A stone staircase leaded to the upstairs landing. It is here that the reason for name "Bend or Bump" becomes immediately apparent; a particularly low beam across the landing means a duck, or "bend" is necessary to avoid a knock or "bump" to the head.
Off this first floor landing you'll find the cottage's 2 delightful bedrooms.
Bedroom 1 features a king-size bed
Bedroom 2 is furnished with 2 single beds.
The modern and stylish family bathroom features a bath with shower over, W.C. and basin.
Outside
To the rear of the cottage is its patio garden complete with table and chairs and delightful views over open countryside to the Yewdale Fells. A wonderful corner of the Lake District all to yourself in which to enjoy a morning coffee or evening glass of wine.
