My 80 year old mom and her brother and sister stayed here to meet up with another sister living 1 minutes away from the cottage. They had a fantastic time and really loved the cottage. Everything was perfect.Thank you so much .
Bathrooms obviously just refurbished. Excellent. Lounge on the first floor excellent, although if you're there in poor weather you might want the TV reception to be better, with comfy seating and a good bookcase. Bedrooms fine. Kitchen is well equipped and with really nice touches such as cake, various teabags milk etc. For 6 the kitchen is a bit small and we'd have preferred a dishwasher to a washing machine. Just our preference. Convenient for the area. Would recommend the café de vinci in Kilmarnock. Lovely ambience and good value food. Would recommed.
everything was great, property very clean, very welcoming. just a shame the next door had to bar b que on one of the hottest days, which meant food and smoke entered every open window.
Great place to connect with friends from Ireland in neighbouring cottage
This is a good cottage for staying with your friends next door!
We met up with old friends from Ireland and had a lot of fun. Our kids are teenagers, theirs are younger, and it was nice to have our own space as well as doing lots together. The cottages are quite small, but very clean, and the outside courtyard and grassy slope is nice and kept well-mowed and tidy. We had incredible weather, which meant we ate almost entirely outside, with both picnic tables set up together and a nice bbq on loan from the owners. Also a football goal for our kids to play with on the slope. A bit risky when mums are chatting with wine on the patio, and the slope is fairly steep, but I only had one ball in my back, nothing to the head and nothing broken!
Good 10-mile bike ride was on Great Cumbrae Island, good beach at Troon with excellent kiosk coffee, the castle in Kilmarnock and park are well worth probably a couple of days to explore (although the café man is well scary in enforcing face masks!)
All in all, a good holiday.
We had a lovely stay at Old Rome cottages. The cottage was beautiful, clean and very well equipped. It was lovely to have a homemade cake waiting for us when we arrived. The bathrooms had been newly renovated, the lounge was very cozy and the beds were very comfortable.
Amanda was very responsive with suggestions of things to do ahead of the trip and and answered any questions we had promptly during our stay. It was nice that we could take bikes and lock them up at the property - the national cycle trial to Irvine was a joy, as was the ride to Troon, down to Prestwick airport and back through the country lanes. We also climbed Ben Lomond and then paddle boarded across the Loch which was wonderful. We’d recommend Cafe De Vinci and The Long House in Kilmarnock, and GRO Coffee in Irvine - amazing food! Overall, a lovely stay and a wonderful cottage - thank you Amanda!

peaceful cozy cottage.
A lovely homely cottage close to Glasgow and the lovely Ayrshire coast. It is beautifully presented and has everything you need for a self catering break away. The owners have supplied lots of leaflets and brochures telling you about the area and good places to visit and eat.
The local pub/restaurant which is only a few minutes walk away is really nice and modern with reasonably priced food and drinks/

Fantastic cottage!
We stayed at The Byre for a week and had a very pleasant stay. The cottage is immaculately clean, wonderfully cosy, well equipped and just the ticket for relaxing in after a busy day exploring the area. The donkeys in the nearby field were fab too! Hopefully we will get the opportunity to return in the future. Would definitely recommend.

Lovely cottage
We actually stayed in the cottage next to ' The Byre'. It caters for all of our needs, of a family of five with three children under the age of 5. The cottage has all the necessary mod cons. It is clean, tidy, very spacious and homely. The owners also throw in a few personal touches such as home baked cakes, which are delicious and were a treat for the many picnics that we had with the children, and also providing toys for the children to play inside and outside. This was our second visit to the cottage. We love this cottage and the children even more so that they now refer to the cottage as their 'holiday home'. It's a beautiful cottage in a great location. We are looking forward to our next stay.

We enjoyed our stay in the Byre cottage very much. The facilities are excellent and the extra details of toys, books and home made cake were much appreciated . Location good for Glasgow and Clyde coast.

Another Fantastic Stay at The Byre
This has been our 4th stay at The Byre. We just keep coming back to this wonderful cottage. It is in the perfect, quiet location for all that Ayrshire has to offer but just a 10 minute drive to the beach and within walking distance to a lovely country pub and restaurant.
The property is always cleaned and maintained to the highest standard with all the equipment and facilities that you would want for a self catering holiday. The bedrooms are spacious with plenty of storage and the kitchen and living room have plenty of room for a family of 6.
We have found the owner to be very friendly and accommodating. She will text us to let us know as soon as the cottage is ready for us which is very helpful after a long transatlantic flight. Also the homemade cake and little treats that are left are a lovely touch.
We would highly recommend this accommodation, great value!!
Gibson Family, Toronto, Canada
We enjoyed our 3 night stay while in Scotland to attend a family wedding.
Amanda is a great host. She was prompt to reply to any questions I had prior to and after booking.
The raisin loaf and the fresh milk were welcoming touches.
The cottage was clean, well equipped and comfortable.
We helped our daughter in her final days of preparing for her wedding. There were 5 busy days in Kilmarnock and Glasgow that we enjoyed returning to the cottage to relax. We easily used public transport. Listening to sheep rather then traffic was soothing. The castle and hiking trails within easy access of the cottage was a reprieve also. The accommodations were roomy and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and we cooked full meals for the family. The hosts are friendly and generous with a yummy sweet bread at arrival and apples off their tree. One of their sheep 🐑 let us pet her which was a first in my life. Now our daughter has moved to Kilmarnock we’ll be back!!
Everything you could want. Gourmet kitchen with more gear than at home. Only thing missing is clothes dryer as it rained every day we were here. Prefer sheets and blankets over duvets.
We had a wonderful stay at your property. We are family visiting from Canada for a wedding in the area and found your vrbo to be perfect for our needs. We were travelling with a baby and you even had a travel cot and high chair. Being able to purchase fresh eggs from you was a bonus. We loved the personal touches and all the extras that helped us feel like we were staying at home. You went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Thank you so much for the homemade birthday cake for my sister and the wine! We will definitely recommend your place and we will stay here again!
We really enjoyed our stay. The cottage is very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Such an excellent location and very friendly hosts, highly recommend. We will most definitely come back!
Bij aankomst stond er een zelfgemaakte heerlijke cake klaar. Het huisje was netjes en zeer schoon. Omgeving is mooi een aanrader voor uitstapjes naar Glasgow en Culzean.
Lovely apartment in the countryside which is clean, cosy and very comfortable. Nice interior which is selected with taste. Perfect destination for getting to know the region, making a day trip to Glasgow, Ayr, isle of Arran and Culzean castle. Amanda and her family were very friendly and helpful. We hand a very nice welcome and felt directly at home. We enjoyed our time in Kilmarnock very much. We would recommend the apartment for staying as a couple or with family and friends.
Thank you very much, we had a wonderful time!
