The Old Coach House in Dorset's Area of Outstanding Beauty - 1 bedroom
This stunning 1 bedroom cottage is set in tranquil gardens on the edge of Maiden Newton in the heart of West Dorset’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
There are fantastic country walks right from the doorstep and it’s a short drive to the stunning Jurassic Coast with it’s pristine beaches. It’s a 5-minute walk to the village stores, a great dog friendly local pub and railway station.
There is a very comfortable super-king-size sleigh bed, powerful shower, fully equipped kitchen, reliable Wi-Fi with super-fast broadband, 40" smart TV, wood burner and private all-year-round hot tub.
We are super dog friendly, accept all breads and an unlimited number can stay for free. Be aware the garden is accessed via external steps or from the first floor landing so may not be suitable for elderly and infirm dogs.
Please take a look at our photographs and be aware that Google street views are very outdated and things have changed.

Lovely property, we parked up on arrival and didn’t get in the car until we left. Great walks on the doorstep. The garden was a real sun trap, and the hot tub was lovely after a long day walking.
Highly recommend this beautiful property. It was fully equiped with everything we needed. Village with pub a few minutes walk away with many footpaths to explore. Hot tub an added benefit after long walks. We will definitely be back !
My husband and I stayed with our large dog for a short get away in Dorset. We had a fantastic stay and will absolutely be back. The bed was large and comfortable, kitchen stocked with everything we would need and the living room was very cosy.
The hot tub was an added bonus after a long day out walking!
Cottage was in a lovely location very peaceful setting however there were a couple cleanliness issues, black mould on alot of the tiles in the shower, the shower is definitely not made for anyone bigger than a size 14 and lots of limescale on the shower head the bed frame was very dusty and the toilet kept dumping water periodically which was annoying at night also we didn't realise you had to " book" the hot tub, that being said its was a lovely relaxing break and would definitely stay there again.. these issues didn't bother us but it might bother future guests head, the bed
The Old Coach House is excellent accommodation. Very well equipped and perfect for short breaks. It has a very comprehensive information pack covering everything that you will need including local walks, dog friendly attractions, places to visit and places to eat out. We really enjoyed our stay here.
We had a lovely stay, the property was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. The location for us was great, if you like walking then highly recommend. Within 40 minutes drive there is a large number of places to visit and the village has everything you need. Pub within a couple of minutes walk as well as shops for supplies.
Would happily stay here again.

Not luxurious as described.
When viewed 1st online, 14b Cattistock road showed the rear of a property with large garden. Reality, not so! Very narrow path to gdn, accessed from 2nd floor was not suitable for a large dog or to relax in. If the weather was wet, access from garden would be right next to bedroom. Not ideal for dog. Kitchen utensils were dirty or damaged. I do have Photos to back up this statement. Would describe this property as standard.
Fantastic place well equipped everything you need home from home.
Beds are amazingly comfortable. Very dog friendly gardens. Hot tubs are well needed best we have every used. Like location to everywhere. Lovely and peaceful, kitchen a little small we are tall so knocked our heads a few times. Overall top quality place. And would highly recommend.
Really lovely cottage with a nice garden area that is a sun trap. We loved the hot tub and the wood burning stove, close to beaches and local woodland walks. The communication with the owners was fantastic and they helped us with any queries we had. My only observation would be that the hot tub is across the drive rather in the grounds of the property itself and I wasn’t expecting that from the on line photos or description.
Great property, the dog loved it, only thought from us is the interior lighting could be on separate switches it was very bright. Log fire was perfect and very warm. We will be back when the weather is better.
Lovely place to base for the Jurrasic Coast. Quiet area & great facilities at the property - everything you need for yourself & your four legged friend! Hot tub a bonus after a long walk....
Cottage had everything we needed and more. Modern, clean & well maintained, with added extras for the dog. Great location to explore the county.

A little piece of paradise
My second visit and they've actually managed to improve the cottage (which I didn't think possible). Super dog friendly from spare leads and bowls, to throws for the furniture and a jar of dog treats. The cottage is well equipped and immaculately clean - you wouldn't know dogs had ever been there before. 100 yards in either direction and you can be on public footpaths through the water meadows. Wonderful hot tub to relax in after a walk and then a log burner to curl up by. A walk over the Wessex Ridgeway to Sydling St. Nicholas is worth the effort for lunch at The Greyhound; excellent food and also very dog friendly (despite both human and dogs being very muddy). Already planning my next trip!

About the host
Hosted by Mark Butcher
My wife and I moved to Dorset in 2004 to escape the rat race. Karen who came from a busy secretarial background in London, now works part time for the NHS and I continue to run a small architectural practice. We both love running our two holiday lets and welcoming guests to this lovely area.
Why they chose this property
West Dorset is fantastic area with beautiful countryside and a fantastic coast line. There is so much to do and see, after 20 years we are still finding new places to visit.
What makes this property unique
Both of our cottages are decorated and furnished to a high standard with very comfortable beds. Each have their own private hot tub and despite being very dog friendly the highest standards of cleaning are maintained.
