About this property

12th Century Castle & country house

Wilton Castle is a Grade I listed building located on the edge of Wilton Village on the banks of the River Wye. The town of Ross on Wye is within easy walking distance, less than a mile away.

The Norman Castle dates back to the 12th Century with the Elizabethan manor house being added in the 16th Century. This romantic place to stay offers a history all its own.
The space
Wilton Castle is nestled in the quaint village of Wilton, just outside of Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire. Set in exquisite gardens, Wilton Castle is a Grade 1, 12th century Norman Castle with centuries of history.

The main residence is a 5 bedroom Georgian house, that sits amongst and incorporates the ancient ruins of a partially restored Norman castle and Elizabethan Manor House. It sleeps 9 guests and comprises 1 super king master bedroom, 2 king rooms, 1 single room and a twin room. Along with a downstairs toilet and 3 bathroom suites with roll top baths and ornate fittings.

The castle's interior has been restored, maintaining its original features while incorporating modern amenities. From a mediaeval dining room with grand piano, a large fully integrated kitchen with a Nespresso machine, a large drawing room, a snug with a 32" smart TV and a den. Each space is uniquely designed with antique furnishings and fine art.

The castle grounds are exceptionally breathtaking, with views of the tower ruins. You are greeted by beautiful flower gardens that have been well kept and are bursting with colour. The large lawn with an outside dining area is perfect for al fresco dining as well as a spot of games on a warm summer’s evening. Across the lawn is the bell tower, which has spectacular views over the land. The gardens offer a relaxing ambience for guests to sit back and enjoy.

Staying at Wilton Castle will be an extraordinary experience. It’s an opportunity to step back in time and escape the hustle and bustle of modern life. Whether you are interested in exploring the surrounding areas such as the Wye Valley, or simply relaxing amongst the history of the grounds, Wilton Castle will be a perfect stay.
Other things to note

- We prefer Friday to be our change over day, other days may not be possible.

- Property is strictly not suitable for parties.

-Only one well behaved dog per booking. We will discuss this with you before confirming your stay.

-The Wye Valley is an area of Special Scientific Interest and has a diverse wildlife population, some of which you will see along the River Wye and in the castle grounds. The historic nature of Wilton Castle means that we have on occasion found very small pipistrelle bats within the house as July and August is breeding season. The bats we've found are very docile and are completely harmless and we try not to disturb them wherever possible. They will not affect your stay in any way, however we feel it’s important that we inform our guests before you book with us.
