Outstanding historic property in an ideal location
It was a great privilege to stay in this beautiful house. The location couldn't have been better, and there was even parking. We enjoyed ourselves immensely and could not believe our luck, as the price was very reasonable.
Despite being a historic property, it is wonderfully maintained and comfortable. Appliances etc worked well, and it was very warm and cosy. The kitchen, lounge, and dining room were all very generous size for our party of six. Details were available for everything we might need to know.
The garden looked beautiful and there is a terrace over the canal, which I'm sure would be delightful in good weather.
Though the property does not claim to be fully accessible, it is more disabled-friendly than most homes. The stairlift was useful. One of the bedrooms is on the ground floor, and there's a ground floor toilet. The ground floor is easy to navigate, with just one step down into the kitchen which leads to the lounge. A variety of chairs in all the rooms means there is likely to be a comfortable chair to suit most needs.
Parents of impulsive young children would find it hard to relax here. Unlike most holiday houses, there are antiques and fragile ornaments everywhere in this house, so you'd need to supervise very closely. We didn't investigate the garden properly, but I imagine it might be risky for small children, being perched high above the canal.
Anyway, it suited us down to the ground. My relatives visiting from abroad were thrilled.
