About this property

Eco-friendly house beside the sea in the wildness and solitude of Connemara

Teach Greine is a Eco-friendly dormer bungalow (2700sq feet) on its own grounds. Heated by solar power, a heat recovery system and excellent insulation makes it a warm and comfortable house. Organic paints and natural oils were used through out the interior. The main entrance door leads into a sun porch with a wooden spiral stair leading to the upstairs. The sun porch leads into the kitchen/dining area which has fitted wooden units, beech worktop and a work island. The kitchen has a Rayburn range, four gas hob rings, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, kettle, toaster, with a ample supply of crockery and utensils. The dining room has a table and six chairs and a sideboard. This leads into the sitting room which has magnificent views of the sea, rocky shoreline and mountains. It has a sofa and four large comfortable chairs, TV , piano, large coffee table and a cut-stone fireplace. In keeping with the Eco friendly ethos, Bamboo flooring is used in the kitchen/dining and sitting room areas. Off the sun-porch is a cloak room for hanging coats which leads into the downstairs shower/toilet and wash-hand basin room. The utility room off the sun-porch has a large sink, washing machine, fridge/freezer, ironing board and iron. Upstairs are three bedrooms, a bathroom, and a pull out hot press. There is a landing area which has a table and chair where you can enjoy the magnificent views of the sea and mountains. The west bedroom with a view of the sea has a double and single bed with a walk in wardrobe. The south bedroom has a double and a small single bed and open shelves for the wardrobe. The north bedroom has adult bunk beds with a view of the sea through the velux windows and open shelves for the wardrobes. All bedrooms have bedside lockers and bedside lamps. Wooden floors are in all the bedrooms, bathroom and landing. The bathroom has a small whirlpool bath, toilet and wash hand basin.
The house is surrounded by gravel with ample space to park and turn a car. It has a picnic table. The acre site includes an abundance of wild flowers and plants aided only by organic methods.

Western hideaway

Views to die for! They bring me back year after year. There is space and comfort in this house. I like the isolation but you need to know that you have to drive to a shop or restaurant. I do miss the access to the garden and sea, now a bit overgrown.

A wonderful stay in lovely Letterard

This is our third time staying at Teach Greine, we love it here. The house is very comfortable and well equipped. If you like the sea, nature and outdoor pursuits there is nowhere better. If the weather is a bit damp, this is the perfect place for peaceful indoor pursuits. Eileen is a brilliant host, nothing is too much trouble and she obviously loves Connemara and is happy to share her local knowledge to make a stay more enjoyable. We look forward to returning soon. Thank you

Fabulous and highly recommended

We cannot praise this house and Eileen's hospitality enough. Where else can you stay right on the water with a spectacular view of the 12 Bens, with a piano to serenade each other? The house was exceedingly well-stocked, and Eileen provided a wealth of maps and local guides to help us discover the area. Great local walks as well as many other fabulous sites close by like Dog's Bay, Roundstone, and Killary Harbour. We also found some lovely and competitively-priced woollens at the nearby Glynsk House. We loved staying in a cosy warm eco-house with all the amenities and we highly recommend Teach Greine.

Fantastic cottage and location

We were greeted by Eileen , who gave us a comprehensive explanation of the area and answered many questions eagerly with her vast local knowledge. We had a fantastic time there, a very relaxing experience with a sunset view, weather permitting. Beautiful views from the lounge in two directions, which so pleased the eye and rested the soul. Eileen had provided some us with some basic groceries, which was very much appreciated. I Particularly enjoyed a superb Irish yoghurt for breakfast. We also were pleased to find basics such as salt + pepper and many spices + herbs; making which assists enormously. The kitchen has everything, including dishwasher tablets; + I was so pleased to find the dishwasher filter exceptionally clean !

Idyllic Escape

Teach Greine is an exceptional place and Eileen is a kind, attentive and very caring host. One can have a great vacation by relaxing at home and enjoying the view of the water and mountains, or go a bit further afield to Roundstone and Clifden. The stormy days were as beautiful as the sunny days. We had a great vacation and are already planning our return next year. The west coast of Ireland (and Connemara in particular) provide an opportunity to see great beauty and to enjoy time with some very genuine and good people. Teach Greine is a perfect place to serve as a base.

Wonderful property, beautiful waterside location.

If you want a holiday in a lovely house in a calm environment with all round stunning views, and where can you can watch the beautiful sunset over Galway Bay, this is the place to be. The cottage is well furnished, warm and comfortable and the kitchen is very well equipped, but if you want to eat out, its just a few minutes drive or a half hour walk through the stunning countryside to the warm welcome of an Irish hostelry. Though we didn't arrive until quite late, Eileen gave is the full introduction to the cottage and a heads up on activities in Connemara to suit the most active members of the party well as those perhaps looking for something slightly less energetic. And there were ample stock cupboard items in the kichen and Eileen had kindly laid in basic fesh foods so that in spite of our late arrival, there was food to eat. This is rightly a very popular cottage which we hope to return to in the near future.

Anytime again!

We absolutely loved Eileen's place - it's a dream come true - at least for my mum a friend and myself. If you seek for peace and a quiet place here you are. The house is perfectly comfortable - nothing missing at all. Very spacious and warm atmosphere. We loved sitting in front of the big windows with wonderful views over the sea and landscape sipping our morning coffees chatting along. Eileen is a wonderful hostess - she made us feel at home from the very first second.

Absolutely stunning place!

Just returned from a beautiful stay at Teache Greine (i hope I've spelt that right). From the moment we arrived, Eileen couldn't be more helpful. She gave us information on everything we needed to know, even got some groceries in for us for when we arrived, and overall made sure our accomadation was perfect. Which it was. It was my mums birthday on the Saturday also, and Eileen got some beautiful flowers and a lovely card for her, which i thought was so kind, and the flowers were beautiful. We enjoyed every single day of our stay, even when the weather wasn't great, the views were amazing and sitting in front of the log fire watching the views were perfect. We cant thank you enough Eileen, thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful home. We will definitely be returning at some point. From, Bryony, Jean and Kieley xx

Peaceful and beautiful location

Thank you for a lovely stay in a beautiful part of Ireland. The house was perfect and we were very comfortable and happy there. Beautiful views from all the windows and lovely to be by the sea. Lovely kitchen and will think about some of the things you are doing to be more eco friendly ourselves.

Everything we'd dreamed about and more.

It's wonderful when your expectations are exceeded. We wanted a comfortable home on the sea that would allow us to enjoy the best of Connemara. We came to Teach Greine to celebrate our 20th Anniversary, and hoped for a private house that would reconnect us to the wild beauty of Western Ireland that we'd fallen in love with 20 years ago on our honeymoon. We could not have anticipated quite how magical our time at Teach Greine would be. Eileen was a gracious hostess, welcoming us with roses and a card for our anniversary, food staples, and an excellent orientation to the house and the region. The house had everything we needed. It was warm and cozy even on the windiest of days. The fireplace added charm, and the views of the sea and the 12 Bens from the picture windows were nothing short of spectacular. The ever changing sky made each look out the windows unique. We loved walking the gorgeous property, abundant with wildflowers and lovely grasses. We spotted sea otters, seals, and plenty of bird life. It was easy for us to make day trips all over the region including Clifden, Roundstone, Leenane, Kylemore Abbey, Oughterard, Ballynihinch, Inishbofin, Omey Island, Dog's Bay, Connemara National Park, Galway City, and more. Restorative beauty around every corner. We were even able to make it up to Ballycastle and Westport in Co. Mayo. We looked forward to cooking meals in Teach Greine's perfectly planned kitchen, and took advantage of many great bars and pubs in the area as well. It was very hard for us to leave Teach Greine. We hope to be back again soon.

Very nice week in Connemara

We spent a very nice week in Connemara end April. We have very appreciated the very clean & quiet house, located 15m to the sea and more particularly: In the living room : - The unique & splendid view to Errisbeg, Roudstone, the bay and the twelves Bens... - The bay & sunset observation area (bow-window of the living room) - The fireplace The wide kitchen & dining area was also perfect for cooking & dining. I have very appreciated all the flyers, touristic guides and the detailed maps, made available by Eilleen to prepare our daily visits: Lough Bolea, lough aliggan Moyrus Beach & Carna; Roundstone , errisbeg & the gorteen bay; Kylemore Abey; Killary harbour, Leenane & the Aasleagh Falls; the Connemara National Parc , the 12 bens & Diamond Hill; Omey Island; the bog road & Ballyconnelly bay; Clifton , the shopping and the sky road; the landing site of Alcock & Brown in Derrigimlach. Post Office, Petrol & Food are available in Carna and in Clifden. Conclusion : A perfect house and a wonderful region for nature lovers. Merci Eilleen.
