About this property
New! Restored farmhouse, private pool, plunge pool, river! Walk pizzeria. Perfect!
Campo is beautifully and peacefully tucked away in the depths of the Garfagnana, with private access to a freshwater stream, yet a short walk from a bar/pizzeria. The farmhouse is just a 10 minute drive from the market town of Castelnuovo and 15 minutes from the stunning medieval town of Barga. Heavenly for hikers, or perfect for a tranquil stay in the countryside, and yet convenient for exploring.
The property is ideal for 2 families/couples holidaying together but with privacy, since it is split into 2 fully equipped two bedroom apartments, although they are also adjoining internally should you wish to be sociable! Both are of course included in the price.
There are 4 double bedrooms, but on request we can arrange to add a single bed to two of the rooms, so in effect they become a twin. There are also 2 sofabeds but use of these will limit space in the living areas. House occupancy is limited to 8.
Two of the bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, and one has a juliet balcony overlooking the mountains - stunning!
The cottage is tastefully furnished with a mixture of local antique handcrafted furniture, with a splash of Scandi style. There are beamed ceilings, cotto floors, hand made chestnut windows, a fireplace and a woodburner, all perfectly blending with modern bathrooms.
The cottage is lovingly presented and well thought out, with a wonderful feel.

A little about the area:
Situated in large grounds, with private access to the river/stream this idyllic location is peaceful and unique. There is a bar/pizzeria just a 1km walk away (downhill), and the train station is 1km away too (although not all trains stop there). The medieval village of Ceserana and its hamlet La Villa are just a 10/15 minute walk away (no facilities, but a lovely walk).
The location is ideal for hiking and one can walk through the forest up to the scenic village of Sillico which has a bar and restaurant with stunning views. There are lots of walking trails from this village.
If you can tear yourselves away from relaxing in the garden surrounded by beautiful views, then some suggestions are:
Bustling local market town of Castelnuovo - shops, bars, restaurants, train station, virbrant Thursday morning market . 10 minute drive.
Barga a beautiful mediaeval town, with wonderful architecture, cathedral, very good restaurants, gelaterias, markets under the stars and regular free music. 15 minute drive.
Lucca - the fully walled mediaeval city of Lucca is a 50 minute drive. Try cycling around the walls, meandering in shady narrow streets and people watching in the Grand Piazzas while enjoying a drink or a gelato. The birthplace of Puccini there are nightly opera recitals, or if you prefer there are often outdoor concerts with big named performers, particulary during the Summer Festival
Pisa with its leaning tower and the airport is 1 hour 15 minutes by car
Grotta del Vento - the famours 'Wind Caves' and also the Canyoning park, where one can jump down waterfalls into beautiful rivers. 40 minute drive.
The Versilian coast is a good day trip reached either via Lucca or more spectacularly by crossing through the Apuan Alps. 1 hour 20 mins.
Fortress at Verrucole, with stunning views and some interactive activities for the children. Close to the fortress is the Buffardello tree climbing and zip wire park (ideal for both adults and children of all ages with a variety of runs) . Here one can take a picnic or BBQ and spend the entire day in the welcome shade of the forest. 20 minute drive.
Vagli, with its hidden village submerged by it's dammed lake is good for an afternoon drive, or the lake of Pontecosi, where one can stop for a drink.
The real beauty of this area is the dramatic mountain scenery, and the hundreds of hilltop villages to explore, endless picnicking opportunities, and the pure peace of a non touristy holiday ......
