About this property

Cottage with a Vista

Charming, cozy, newly-renovated cottage with beautiful vistas. Less than an hour to Acadia National Park and just a few minute walk to the lovely Morgan Bay.

The cottage is elegant as well as rustic. A rare combination of nature, comfort and class. The cottage is located on an old Maine farm. A unique performing arts center is located a few hundred feet away. A lovely meditation center is also just a few minutes walk down the road.

There is a piano in cottage for anyone who wants to explore expressing themselves in music.

This apartment is located in a spacious, newly-renovated Maine barn on a beautiful and historic farm. It is a five minute walk to nearby scenic Morgan Bay, very close to hiking trails, biking and swimming. Acadia National Park is about 45 minutes away.

The farm offers a seasonal performing arts center featuring classical, jazz, singer songwriter and blues series among others.

Few rental spaces offer all of this in a ten-minute radius.

Pets: Dogs and cats are welcome, but you must contact me in advance so we can discuss details. Upon approval, there is an additional cleaning fee of $50.00 for the one pet or $80 for two pets. The fee for the first pet is included in your VRBO total. If bringing more than one pet, the additional pet fee is payable in cash at checkout. Stays longer than 7 days will need to discuss possible additional pet cleaning fees with the host. Please note that many animals live near the property and frequently walk through it (such as deer, wild turkeys, neighbors' cats, etc.) A porcupine lives under one of the barns, so we recommend keeping dogs on a leash when outside to avoid injury.

Late arrivals after 9:00 PM are subject to a late fee of $25.00.

Additional guests: For more than 2 guests, there is an additional fee of $25 per guest per night.

Home Away From Home

I had a lovely stay here, took the short walk to the coast with my dog, drove to Acadia Natl Park for a day and had some peaceful times in the cozy cottage enjoying the quiet and the views. Alan was a very responsive and thoughtful.

Thoughtful Touches

We had bad weather but fortunately the cottage had all we needed — a really good bed, a well stocked kitchen, etc. It was a very welcoming environment.

Keeper

We stayed in the winter when we were alone. It worked out great. Solitude. Two people and a dog. Just enough room. Enough cooking to allow us to do breakfast and some dinner. We hiked around during the day, some locally and some at Acadia National Park.

Decent place! Best for location

Perfect little spot if you value location as top priority. The area has other cottages nearby. There are many windows so you can have a lot of natural light. The lighting at night is also very good. Our only issues were the kitchen being too small for us and the amenities said there’s an oven but it’s actually a toaster oven. There is only stove top fyi. We were also a little disappointed about the overall cleanliness of the place as we found a lot of dusty areas

Maine

The cottage was cute and well equipped. At first as we were driving there it seemed so far off the beaten path. As we ventured out the next day to Acadia National park we realized we weren’t that far away. It was about a 45 min drive. We do like to watch a little tv before bed; so, if you want a tv, there is no tv. We listened to our music. It was a little too cold to sit outside to do any star gazing. The view of the sunrise over Cadillac mountain was beautiful!

Cozy Cabin

Cute, cozy cabin. Perfect for the two of us. Lovely property, and from the back deck we could watch the sunrise and see Cadillac Mountain in the distance. Under an hours drive to Bar Harbor and Acadia, about 15 mins to Ellsworth. Lots of cool places to check out in the area.

Would look elsewhere

The info email from VRBO was not enough to find the cabin and since it was rural I struggled to pull up the orig rental info on the site so it was more complicated than necessary. The paper info in the cabin says to not drink the water but the owner says he fixed that. It is my understanding that he will be updating the paper info.

Cozy cottage in beautiful surroundings

We enjoyed our stay in Alan’s cozy cottage. It is beautiful. It had such a comfortable bed (the bed should have its own five star rating!). The kitchen was well equipped with essentials for us such as coffee maker, filters, mugs, plates, microwave, and more. It was a great place to come back to after days of exploring Acadia National Park and the surrounding area. Alan is a very responsive host and we enjoyed meeting him.

Cottage With a View

This was by far one of the most serene places we have stayed. We stayed for five nights and truly did not want to leave. Alan was a wonderful host and offered plenty of options of things to do and see. The cottage met all of our needs and was appointed with everything we needed whether we chose to eat in or dine out. The bed was very comfortable and the night sky was amazing. The views from the deck were beautiful. We enjoyed exploring the area around Surry as well as our trips further out to Acadia. We highly recommend booking here. Our one regret is missing the concert in the arts barn (on the property) one of the nights during our stay.

Labor day stay at Surry

The cottage was beautiful and Alan was very communicative and helped us check in after 9 pm. However we felt it was a bit cramped for 4 adults. I would recommend it for 2 people. There was also some confusion about the number of guests though it was specified in the booking.

What a great isolated place to stay

It's a great place to get away from spending the days in bar harbor and Acadia, while also getting the added benefit of being close to great local small towns that also have lots to offer.

Amazing Stay!

We had a fantastic time at Alan’s cottage! It’s a gorgeous location, and we enjoyed the solitude. It’s also close enough to spend time in Acadia. There are beautiful performances at the cottages some nights, which were fantastic to hear. Alan was an excellent host, and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Perfect getaway

We had a such wonderful time staying here! The cottage had a gorgeous view and had everything we needed (including kitchen with hotplate for cooking). It's in such a quiet, tranquil area with short access to local hikes or a 45 minute drive to key attractions in Acadia. Alan was also a great host and gave us tips on local attractions. We would love to come back in the future when they have live music!

About the host

Hosted by Property Manager/Owner

Host profile image
I have lived on this property for close to 40 years. I am originally from South Shore, Long Island, near New York City. In my younger years I lived, worked and went to university in New York City. I have pioneered the field of music therapy in the state of Maine, both on the higher academic levels and in terms of interesting and far reaching clinical projects.

For the last 6-7 years I have put my time and energy into developing a seasonal performing arts project (www.surryartsandevents.com). In addition, I have found I am well-suited for hospitality and have been successful in running three popular VRBO/AirBNB rentals. I know the area well, and like to share what I know with others. We are a 5-6 minute walk to the coast and well situated between two great towns, Blue Hill and Ellsworth. We are in close proximity to Acadia National Park, which draws millions of visitors every year before, after and during the pandemic. Finally, I very much want to be part of the solution, not the problem, so we follow all State of Maine CDC COVID-19 guidelines.

I try my very best to assist guests in every way possible. I very much want to share this beautiful area and see people having fulfilling visits and experiences.
