About this property

Secluded rental on 40 acre ranch.

Rancho de los Robles is located on the east side of Mount Palamor in Northeast San Diego County Ca. Nestled under over 400 ancient Oak Trees the property offers Horse Camping with a pasture for horses (specifically for renters), stall space in the barn with paddock. A pond, access to the Pacific Crest Trail, wineries, incredible nature, golf, hunting and brilliant star filled skies.

Rancho de los Robles is a great getaway. If you choose to you will not come in contact with anyone. Fresh air and sunshine are in abundance here. At 4200 feet elevation smog, city noise and lights are not present...It should also be noted that because of its rural setting Cell and wifi reception are spotty. Wifi in the house is consistent as is Verizon cell. That said there are areas on the ranch and the surrounding areas that are non-service.

One hour to Palm Springs, and Idywild, forty minutes to Julian (a quaint old mining town), and Temecula (Old town, Wineries, Pechanga Casino, shopping and dining) 15 minutes to Warner Springs (golf). One and a half hours to San Diego Zoo, Sea World and Beaches.

However ...Once here you will probably not want to leave the property. This is a horse ranch with many other farm animals (ducks, chickens, goats). There is a great winery at the bottom of the hill with a tasting room.

The house has an incredible sunset deck with BBQ, full kitchen.

Great place to stay

This is a great place to unplug and get away. The back country in San Diego is totally worth the drive. The only thing to keep in mind is that the cellular networks really aren't built out to this area.

Rustic Stay

If you like being in the woods with nature this is the place for you. Was clean and Phil was very hospitable. We enjoyed talking to him. Access dirt road is a bit tight but doable. Pictures are accurate and property was clean.

Horrible

Place was absolutely filthy. Spider webs covered the couch. Spiders on the walls, spiders and dead bugs in the corners. Rat poop under fridge. Rat poop in cabinet next to rat poison. Looked like blood in refrigerator. Looked like blood on ceiling in hallway. Layer of dust on tv. No way anybody could sleep there.

Great place to get away from the city

We had an excellent time at the ranch. Location is very private. Place had everything we needed. Phil is a great host and his house is down the road from the rental, you can barely see his place through the trees. Place is great to walk around and see all the cute animals. Hawk Watch winery is just 10 minutes away too which is a great place for wine tasting if you're into that.

Off the grid

Great place to enjoy a good book/conversation and walks. Verizon carriers are the only ones that will get adequate cell reception. Phil was the perfect host. Can't wait to get back.

Fantastic Setting!

We stayed a week and enjoyed every minute of our time. The ranch is breathtakingly beautiful. The mobile home is clean, fresh, and cozy. A network of horse trails nearby leads through a landscape of oaks and huge boulders with views of the mountains. Phil is a welcoming and generous host. I highly recommend this getaway.

Several inches of snow on Thanksgiving!

Almost was snowed in, but we have a 4X4. Almost stayed an extra night, but I was running low on beer, and our Host Phil, told us about a lot of oak branches broken(from snow) on the road leading in, and guided us through a foot of snow to his back gate which lead us to pavement and home. Beautiful property, and a great host. Dogs had a blast too!

Peaceful Woodland

We stayed here for several nights in March to see the wildflower bloom in Anza Borrego State Park. Very quiet, beautiful oaks around the property. A little too cool for us to sit on on the inviting deck. Phil left us fresh eggs one day (delicious) and a welcoming bottle of wine. He came by before we left. We enjoyed talking with him about his property. Would certainly stay here again.

total relaxation!

What a lovely property... Philip was very helpful with directions and pre-arrival info. We arrived later on in the evening so he stopped by the next morning to introduce himself and to check on us. We actually looked forward to being 'disconnected' for a few days... we cooked, read, visited the animals, took a day trip to the desert... perfect for a getaway from city life.

Lovely Remote Stay

Phil was very responsive, the entrance is a little hard to get to if you don't know where you're going and Phil was kind enough to meet us on the main road (he offered, which was so sweet!). The space was as pictured, it is a beautiful space in the mountains with oaks and we even got to meet some baby goats. The wifi was strong enough for phone calls and streaming video on netflix but I wouldn't plan to use it all night, we were there to visit the outdoors. The kitchen was super well stocked and beds were very comfortable. Phil answered all the questions that we had and was very helpful with making sure we were all set up, he even gave us a bottle of local cabernet.

Fantastic location but...

Would be perfect if the accommodation looked like it did in the pictures. Perhaps it does in March? Unfortunately, in July, the immediate surrounds of the property were so overgrown with mustard and grass, it made being outside difficult. It served the purpose of shielding our dogs from the barrage of fireworks that is 4th of July in Riverside though. The location is wonderful and this really could be a gold mine, but it needs a bit of TLC

Deceitful Advertising

Drove 130 miles from Los Angeles to Warner Springs just to find that what I thought was going to be a beautiful place turned out to be a dirty and unkept place. For the price I was charged it wasn’t even worth it. I should get my money back!

Very Relaxing

My husband and I are always looking for short trips to get out of town for some stress release. This place fits the bill. We had a very relaxing time and to top it off, you get a bottle of wine (it was great!). We visited the goats and also saw the very cute colt in the distance. Sitting by the pond was very peaceful. There is a trail to the vineyard, but I became a little worried after seeing some large animal tracks, and turned back before we saw the vines. This is to be expected. You are far from city life. We ate our dinners outside on the picnic table and listened to the beautiful music of the crickets in the evening. We sat by the fire pit after dinner, and could hear the coyotes in the distance. The owner was out of town, so we didn't get to meet him. His son Gabriel was kind enough to help us with a small problem. All in all it was a good trip. We went home smiling and relaxed.

a verdant retreat well off the beaten path

Look no further if you want to get away from all the hubbub of city life! Giant centuries-old oak trees canopy the grounds which are home to horses, goats, ducks and chickens; at night the place comes alive with the brilliance of thousands of stars above and the yips and howls of coyotes in the not-so-distance. During the day, venture off-pavement on one of the several forest roads surrounding the magical Chihuahua valley, hike the Pacific Crest Trail which crosses just to the east, explore one or more of the wineries of the North Mountain Wine Trail nearby, or head down to Julian for a taste of the California gold rush. Philip is an outstanding host, greeting his guests with a quite-good bottle of wine produced from the cabernet sauvignon grapes he grows on the property and regaling them with fascinating stories of the history of the place. The house itself is modest but clean and offers all of the conveniences and comforts of home. That said, this is a remote location and visitors should arrive prepared. We came up with a meal plan for our stay and cooked our meals at home in advance, but there's a well-stocked kitchen in which you can do your meal prep - just be mindful that the nearest full-service grocery is 45 minutes away by car in Temecula (there's a gas station and general store about 15 minutes away but its selection is limited). If you’re anything like us, you'll be sorry to leave this spectacular place and looking forward to coming back!

So much space, yet so close

Our 2nd visit off the grid from the OC. Bring your DVD player and flash drive for movies and music entertainment. Don't forget your favorite board/card games. There is a library of books and movies on site as well. I stated in previous survey, if you don't have Verizon there is little to no cell reception. At any rate, bring your charger to receive any delayed emergency text. My smart phone notified me that due to lack of reception my battery was draining quicker due to continuous automatic search. This is a great place to explore, hunker down and enjoy some alone time. For your perishables, recommend grocery purchases be done prior to arrival in Temecula. If you forget anything there is a general store by Ricardo Breceda's sculpture gallery in Aguanga 11 miles away that has basic essentials. Don't blink cause you might miss it. Phil is a wonderful host. Due to extreme weather conditions and no future check in conflicts allowed us to bump up our check in date by 1 day providing us with continuous weather updates as needed to insure our safe arrival. We look forward to a 3rd visit and more. Phil, Thank You again for sharing your parcel of heaven with us. :)

Wrong timing

Phil was great, he checked in with us and told us a bit of a history about the property and where are the trails, etc. Told us about what type of wild life we can expect around the place from bats to mountain lions. He also left us a bottle of wine from his vineyard. Overall the place was clean except under the beds. It was a lot of dirt, dust, crumbs, and some kind of animal scats. And, we did have to get rid of some spiders and other bugs from the bedrooms. My husband and I and our friends brought our puppies with us: ours is a 7months Siberian husky and our friends is a 4 months old German Shepard mixed with Australian Kelpie. They really enjoyed the short time of running around off leash during daytime. However, they were too hot and always wanting to go inside to cool off, eating ice cubes, drinking lots of water, the temperature was between 100 - 110. Even early morning(7am - ish) was about 85-90 degrees so we couldn't really enjoy exploring the trails and hike around. At night would have been great but because of Phil great suggestion not to have them off leash because there are coyotes and mountain lions, etc. wildlife, we tied them out with their long leash and have them stay close to us. Because of them overheating issues and not able to enjoyably run around and hike around we had to cut our trip short and leave earlier. Other than that we did have a great time being away from civilization even if it was for a very short time. We saw vouchers, heard and saw coyotes go "hunting", saw goats, wild ducks, and horses. We BBQ, we walked over to Phil's place to check out the pond, walked back to our place, (they are about 100-150 feet a part) played with our little fur babies, and just having great conversations. Maybe fall or winter time would be better for people with puppy dogs( who have endless energy and wants to just run around and around... :)) to go and visit this place. Thank you, Phil!

Little piece of country

What a beautiful property. We enjoyed the house, location, and I absolutely loved waking up to cows!! We never left the property for the weekend so not sure about surrounding area. I met a friend to just hang out. 2 things missing- could use some bigger, extra pots for cooking and maybe some games on the boom shelf. It was a great place to be during a lightning, thunder storm for sure!

Oak Heaven

People, this place is a ranch through and through. If you love and appreciate ranch life, hard work, and the land of hidden and old California; this is the place for you. Huge oak trees litter the property and it is extremely well maintained. Everything on the property is beautiful, earthy, and away from the business of your every day life. The animals are extremely social, but don’t just go sticking your hands out to horses and goats, they can read you before you read them. The pond is tranquil and the dry river beds and meadows that are hidden in the brush of the property make you want to explore more and more every day. Phil was an amazing host and we often had long conversations by the paddocks talking about the history of the property, the animals, and the surrounding biology of the area. If this sounds like your gig, book your date immediately. Now a disclaimer for those from busier areas, the wifi is spotty, you will have no service, the tv will cut in and out, you will have to bring and cook your own food, and the trailer has no AC. With all that being said, do not be upset when you book a ranch, and then get a ranch. Phil and the property are so welcoming and I can’t wait for my next visit!
