About this property

Gîte de La Méliromarine in the heart of Touraine

Located in the very pretty village of Bréhémont, on the road to "La loire à vélo", the Gîte de La Méliromarine is open all year round for tourist stays (18 km from Chinon, 30 km from Tours and Saumur). although professional (15 km from Oats).
Our Gîte is suitable for couples and families with children for holidays in the countryside, as well as professional travelers looking for a perfectly furnished living space to enjoy their evenings and weekends in a different way.

The heated swimming pool, not included in the rental, is nevertheless free and accessible: in the presence of the hosts on the estate, depending on the season and under your responsibility.

The lodging of the Méliromarine, totally renovated this year, will be for you an ideal place to take advantage of the tourist activities proposed in the surroundings.
In a green setting, adjoining our family home, our gîte will delight lovers of nature and animals (dogs, cats, horses and chickens live together on the estate). Lovers of places steeped in history will be spoiled for choice (many castles and museums). Finally for the sportsmen, they will find many paths to be covered on foot or by bicycle.

Bréhémont, a magnificent village on the banks of the Loire, has a small port where traditional boats stay all year round and where you will find freshly caught fish.
A very active association offers rides on board their barges in season that delight young and old.
For your shopping, the delightful market of Langeais on Sunday morning is only 10 minutes by car and 1/2 hour by barge (on reservation).
Apart from the possibilities offered by our baker / grocery store (for very basic products), you will find in langeais (8km) and Azay-le-Rideau (11km) the supermarkets and all the shops you might need.
Finally, for lovers of croissants, special breads and wine pies, we recommend the excellent bakery of Lignières-de-Touraine.

Nearby you can for example:
- Visit the castles of Rigny-Ussé (3 km), that of Langeais (7 km) as well as the Fortress of Chinon (18 km) and many others ...
- Discover the cellars and vineyards of Bourgueil (25 km).
- Rent bikes (road or mountain bike), canoes or donkeys (on Bréhémont itself).
- Do tree climbing.
- Visit the Doué-la-Fontaine Bio-park ...

A pleasant short break

A lovely conversion of an old building, next door to the hostess, but private nonetheless. We found it comfortable for a short break, and the main room felt quite spacious, but the bathroom is off the kitchen, at the opposite end of the property to the bedroom: there are two of steep steps between the living room and kitchen and another into the bathroom. The property was very difficult to find, some distance from the main village, towards the end of a long road, but our hostess, who is lovely, came out to greet us and show us around. The village itself had little to offer, but there are plenty of places to visit nearby. We spent some time in Loches and visited the Chateau de Brézé, which is truly astonishing.

Great place to stay

Very comfortable and very central to a lot of places of interest. Bed very comfortable. Although she lives next door we were given privacy. The pool was great to cool down in when it got really hot. Would recommend it.

Clean, comfortable & peaceful

This property was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and in an attractive and peaceful area. The swimming pool was at the perfect temperature, very clean with attractive flower beds. Several chateaux are within easy reach. We visited Villandry and Azay le Rideau which were interesting and with beautiful gardens. It was nice to have a private garden with loungers, table and chairs. Amelie was readily contactable by email and phone. The dogs are very friendly but one does come into the garden so, if you really don't like dogs, it may not be for you. We loved it, thought it good value for money, and may book again.

Homely gite on small family farm

This gite is ideal for exploring this part of the Loire Valley, a few km from the picturesque town of Langeais. Good for a couple or young family, well equipped, small private garden with BBQ

Clean tidy little cottage

Nice little cottage, well decorated and furnished. Comfortable bed. Kitchen well equipped, shower room very clean and modern. Host Amelie very pleasant. Disappointed that the property seemed to be very isolated, although at the end of a village. Had to drive several miles to get an evening meal. Used as a stopping off point for 4 nights on our way home to the UK from the Dordogne

Quiet Retreat

We stayed five nights. It was the first time we had booked a cottage to stay more than a couple of nights. We are so pleased we did. The cottage had everything we needed. It was quiet and peaceful. Amelie and her father were very friendly and helpful.

Comfortable, well equipped property

We enjoyed our stay in the Loire Valley. Amelie was very friendly and welcoming. The property was situated in a great area, away from it all in the wonderful French countryside. The gite itself was compact and not as large as the website photos lead us to believe. It is a one storey apartment, with a well equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge area. The bedroom had a queen and 2 single beds but would have been quite claustrophobic for 4 people in our opinion. The private garden was good although in need of some TLC gardeningwise. The shared pool was excellent although we had to ask for a key to the gate to use it. The River Loire and village of Brehemont is just 2.5 km away, a comfortable 20 minute walk through the fields. There was a Boulangerie (excellent bread and cakes) and a hotel/bar (funny opening hours) and fish restaurant (recommended but book first) along with the obligatory church. All alongside the river with views. Lots of interesting places to visit and all within an hour or so drive. If you are a cyclist it's ideal with many designated cycleways and quiet roads

Piece and quiet

A very peaceful and relaxing week was had at this lovely gite. The garden and surrounding fields and lanes, made it perfect for walking with our dog. The gite is rustic with most amenities catered for. The shower was efficient, kitchen well stocked with cups, glasses, cutlery, pots and pans etc. WiFi was sporadic, but then one is out in the sticks somewhat. We found the bed a little firm for our taste and a couple more pillows would have been welcome. The little swimming pool was a great treat, especially with the exceptionally hot weather. The local baker's was superb, the two village restaurants nice, being right beside the Loire river, but the better of the two disappointingly only opens on Saturday nights and we were refused a table at 1.35 one lunchtime, as they had finished serving! Finding the gite with the correct map info is not too bad, but the roads do get very small near the end, so do your research. With the heat and the dog, we did very little other than sit in the garden, but we did go to an excellent chateau only a few miles away and the pear shop in Rivarennes is a lovely view of local regional food history. We opted to pay an extra 30 euros to have the gite cleaned when we left, rather than do it ourselves. A word of advice, take some basic supplies and remember the French shops and restaurants have very different opening times than the UK. The open air market on Monday was brilliant and the local supermarket has everything and more you could ever need.

Charming rural setting

The Gite La Meliromarine is ideal for a couple or a small family who wish to visit the many chateaux of the Loire Valley, as it is ideally placed for driving to a number very fine sites, in particular Langeais, Ussé, Amboise, Chambord, etc. The gite is very comfortable and clean, with everything you could need. The site is very charming in the summer, set as it is in a farm, with well tended gardens full of flowers and herbs. We were made to feel welcome by the family too.

Comfy, private and pretty

The property is not, as we thought, on the road near the river, but set back in a cluster of village houses, with a lovely rural feel. (We were foolish enough not to ask for specific directions so had to ask neighbours to finally find it.) It's attractive, roomy and comfortable, a wing of the renovated farm property with separate entrance and garden. It's well located for touring chateaux and vineyards between Tours and Saumur. Very nice indeed.
