About this property

Spacious Luxury Private Villa - Pool - Ocean Views

Welcome to ‘The Winery Estate’ a unique blend of traditional architecture, history and style coupled with modern convenience. Accommodating 12 guests with indoor and outdoor facilities it is a perfect blend of location, comfort and convenience for your stay in Santorini.

The Winery Estate is ideally located in the peaceful village of Megalochori - One of the true gems of Santorini. The property’s location means an easy stroll will take you to the picturesque village square, which plays host to an array of quaint tavernas and shops, along with a mini market and a locally renowned bakery. Its central setting allows for a short drive to all parts of the island, including the Caldera, Fira, Oia, Amoudi Bay and the beaches of Perissa and Kamari. The Winery Estate is the perfect base for all your activities on Santorini and ensures easy access to the best that the island has to offer whilst also providing a relaxing and peaceful getaway when required.

Dating back to the 17th century, The Winery Estate was originally called 'Canava Beko' and exported its wine all over the Aegean. You will notice that the floors are all ever so slightly sloping so when the wine was pressed, it would naturally run into the large pits in the ground, called "muster pits", from here it would be paled out and once in the barrels it would be stored lined up on each side of the main chamber (now the living room and kitchen). These centuries old muster pits are still visible in the property however are covered with glass that supports up to 300kg of weight. The property retains many of the original features, even the old metal pulley which would hoist the barrels on to the backs of donkeys for transport and is still hanging from the ceiling in the living room.

Around 1930 Canava Beko stopped producing wine. The property was abandoned and fell into disrepair, which was the condition in which we found and fell in love with this unique property. Starting in 2008 Canava Beko has undergone a loving 7 year restoration and modernisation bringing the property up to an immaculate standard to ensure a comfortable and carefree stay for all guests for what is now lovingly called ‘The Winery Estate ’

Furnished with care and attention to detail with pieces chosen to compliment unique architectural style, the property comfortably accommodates 12 guests in complete privacy.

The main house sleeps 10 guests with 4 air conditioned bedrooms and 3 bathrooms and features a large fully equipped kitchen including all appliances, cutlery and crockery as well as a lounge and dining area with a open fire place to comfortably accommodate all guests. The lounge area features a flat screen TV, Netflix and a DVD player with a broad selection of films for those stay indoors nights. Laundry facilities, linen and beach towels are provided.

In addition, the ‘Bergonia Suite’ is a fully equipped, self-contained cavern house accommodating 2 guests, with bathroom and jacuzzi, kitchenette, a dining terrace, and its own entrance off the pool terrace, perfect for romantic nights in.

Outside, the estate includes 3 large private terraces: The Pool Terrace, with a large pool (40sq meters), loungers and pagoda; the Roof Terrace with a pagoda, hammock, loungers and dining area, perfect for all day sun worshipping or siestas in the shade and the Main Terrace, with a double, built in barbecue and a dining space for 12 guests as well as a comfy seating area with shade. All terraces have stunning views over the local vineyards and family churches in the village as well as the ancient windmills of Vlychada and the Aegean Sea beyond and are perfect for relaxing, dining and entertaining.

The Winery Estate truly is an exceptional residence that should not be missed and is sure to make your holiday to Santorini a memory to treasure.

Car and bike hire can be arranged on your behalf and delivered to the airport or villa

Beautifully renovated villa

We were extended family staying in Santorini for a family wedding. The Villa was beautiful and has been sympathetically restored. As it is an old winery it is amazingly cool in the heat of the day. The Villa has everything you need and I love the way they don’t skimp on anything. The Villa owner Sarah was so helpful in advance & also her manager Pedros was always on hand for queries. Sarah arranged for her driver Panos to pick us up from the airport and then he made himself available to take us everywhere all week. He was a star!

Spacious villa in a lovely traditional village

Lots of outside space, comfortable beds and Sarah is superb. Some appliances and bathrooms could do with updating but when we had an issue with the dishwasher it was replaced the next day

She went beyond her duties as a host and I will definitely be using sarah again. Thank you from us all x

Relaxing at the Winery Estate

Sarah was extremely helpful in the run up to our trip and organised the car hire, which was essential for exploring the island, as well as the taxi to / from the airport. The house itself is large, with lovely views and outside areas for relaxing. The five bedrooms are all well appointed, although we didn't use the separate one by the pool, which is pretty much self-contained. UK Netflix was an added bonus for the children, who also slept in the platform bedroom above the kitchen, which they loved as it was like a tree house. The kitchen had lots of equipment so cooking was easy. Others have noted the steps up to the property, which were no problem for us, and the driveway is steep and narrow, which I imagine could intimidate some. Having the village and the bakery a short walk away was great, and we ate out three times in Megalochori at different places - all excellent. In short, it's a great place to spend time, but also a convenient central location to explore the island, from Perissa black sand beach in the south to Oia in the north. It's in a 'real' bit of Santorini, with locals living around, as well as donkeys, horses and mules to pet and feed next door! I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

An amazing stay

Our stay at the winery was excellent from start to finish, Sarah is a great host she sent a taxi to pick us up from the airport and drop us off again free of charge. She arranged car hire to be dropped off at the villa the next day which we found very useful. The villa itself is fantastic the option to take a dip in the pool everyday was great. The villa is minutes walk away from a bakery and the village square which has an array of tavernas and local shops. Overall we had a blast and would definitely come back.

Beautiful, quiet

A huge, stunning cave house. Beautifully appointed. Everything you need. Lovely pool. Great location on the edge of the gorgeous, quiet village of Megalochori with its amazing bakery & handful of restaurants & bars. Fira a 15min drive away. Oia 30 mins. Stunning island. Sarah really friendly, helpful, knowledgable, great communication, fast response. Mark too! We had a great time- we thoroughly recommend.

Weeding Week Holiday

We stayed at the Winery Estate for one week at the end of August as a group of 8 adults and 4 children (ranging from under 2 to 14 years old) Transfers to and from the airport were included and went off without a hitch, so easy, on time and the air con was welcome in the heat! Arriving to the villa itself, the pictures don’t do the grandeur of the property justice… It’s been restored beautifully and all the rooms are clean and comfortable – As a large group we had more than enough room and never felt like we were on top of one another… The outdoor dining tables are great and meant we could all come together at dinner time. (Some of the best nights we had were all spent together on the terrace!) There is a self-contained double room next to the pool which is gorgeous and such a love nest for a couple… It was perfect for us to have our own space away from the main villa as we were here to celebrate our wedding. The walk into Megalochori is easy and pram friendly – Every night, even if we chose not to eat out, we would still walk down after dinner to the square for an ice cream. Megalochori itself has everything you could need - We did hire a car for a supermarket run which would be necessary if you’re looking to be self-catering and not eat out all of the time. Sarah arranged the car for us so we didn’t even need to think about this when we arrived! The car was dropped off and picked up with no issues - The choice of restaurants in Megalochori and the few bars are plenty if you’re wanting to stay in a more quiet area of Santorini. It’s a beautiful little town with all the blue domes, churches and winding streets you associate with Santorini – There are some stunning views as you walk into the town from the villa. Through the whole booking process Sarah was fantastic and quick to reply to any queries I had, we arranged a car seat, high chair and travel cot for the baby and of course it was all at the villa when we arrived with no problems. Mark the villa manager in Santorini was equally as helpful and ran through everything with us when we arrived and came a couple of times during our stay to check in and confirm pick up of the hire car etc. It was perfect for our large group and really felt like a special property. From start to finish it was fantastic and we’re already wanting to book to come back to Santorini – Even just as a couple we will definitely be taking a look at Sarah’s other properties on HomeAway.

Great relaxing holiday

The property was pretty much as described, however, one of our party was somewhat immobile and found the steps and terrain most difficult. Perhaps a note to this effect would be useful. Otherwise hard to fault.

Perfect Holiday

From start to finish we can’t fault the contact with Sarah beforehand and the whole experience at the villa in general. Mark was friendly and full of advice and information to ensure that our stay here was as good as could be. Leslie was also lovely and polite. We were completely blown away by the villa when we arrived, the pictures really do not do it justice. The location was fantastic for us being central to all key locations - but you must get a car! A few recommendations from our experiences: - Oia; Fanari restaurant has amazing food and a great view for sunset - Fira; Classico is a lovely restaurant and a great view and also PK cocktails for amazing drinks - Megalochori; do not be afraid to try out the local restaurants. The food is incredible in the villa (Avlogyros & Marmita) - Waves Chill out bar at Perissa Beach is a lovely place to relax - Take the boat trip to the volcano island, hot springs, Thirassia village too (the sea is very cold in April) - Ancient Thira ruins is absolutely beautiful and a great walk and amazing views over the whole of Santorini - Santos Winery Vineyard is amazing - we had the 10 flight wine for €35 each YOU MUST GO TO THE FAMILY BAKERY. It is amazing, Pavlos is awesome and the chocolate, Gelato and pastries are great. We have had a lovely stay and would highly recommend the Winery estate to families or groups of friends. We hope you enjoy your stay as much as us. Aaron, Michelle, Rich, Jess, Matt, Leonie, Indi, Lisa, Dan & Alba

Fabulous villa

We stayed for a week at the villa recently and everything about it was fabulous. I love the Greek quirkiness with their construction very charming. The pool and spacious accommodation was loved by all. Mark, the villa rep was brilliant, came regularly to clean the pool and provided great help and assistance with car hire, advice and help with a medical situation we had, many thanks. Thoroughly recommend the villa, you won’t regret choosing it.

Fantastic stay, very comfortable beds and perfect pool area. We truly did not want to leave

The old winery is stunning, we arrived in the evening and it was breathtaking. Panos met us with our cases and showed us around. The welcome pack including chilled wine etc was great as we could have that without having to go out. Many of the old features were maintained such as the cellars and this added to the character of the house. Excellent location and in the pretty village where there were a few restaurants. However, Panos arranged taxis so we could explore the rest of Santorini. The pool area with sunbeds was great to chill out and sunbathe. The bakery which does hot food too is within 5 minutes walk. If you had mobility issues there is a steep incline but only very short. The bedrooms are spacious and the bathrooms are tastefully done. The smart tv with YouTube meant we could have a mini disco in the property on our nights in ;) We loved the huge outdoor area of the winery, with its many seating areas. As we were only a small group we didn't use the outdoor bergonia suite, but this would be ideal for a couple wanting privacy from the main house. We loved our time in Santorini, it was our first time here and would definitely recommend to stay here. Thank you once again to Panos, he truly went out of his way to ensure our trip was every thing we could have asked for!

Stunning and spacious Villa. A must stay

We recently stayed in this villa (June 2018), and the pictures don’t do it justice. It is extremely spacious and beautiful. A lot bigger than expected. The village it is located in is also stunning, very friendly and quiet. The local bakery is a 2 min walk away and has everything you need. Even Hot cooked meals. We hired a Car but the Taxis are cheap and arrive quickly. We hired buggy’s which were much better and enhanced the experience whilst exploring the island. The Villa manager Panos was extremely helpful and friendly from before the start of holiday right to the finish. He organised everything we needed throughout the duration of our stay. Sarah the Villa owner was very helpful and patient with all the usual sporadic pre-holiday questions. We had an amazing stay and can’t recommend this villa enough for anyone looking to holiday in Santorini. It was so much more than we expected. Many Thanks! P.s. The Catamaran cruise and para-sailing is a must!

Perfect Relaxation

What a find! This leap of faith more than paid off. Idyllic, relaxing and beautifully restored by the present owners with an eye for detail and historic preservation. Easy to get to all the island has to offer with fantastic advice from the villa manager on hidden gems. Can't recommend this diamond enough. Loved it and will definitely be back sooner rather than later.

Awesome base to explore an authentic Greek island

It was the most stunning Villa I've ever stayed in, we absolutely loved it. The house obviously sleeps more then the two of us, so it was a bit spacious, but that made it all the more luxurious! We felt spoiled and pampered! One week was almost not enough time to try out all the different seating areas- terraces and little nesting corners in and around the house. If you do happen to stay there with as many people as beds you can still very easily find quiet time spread out over the different levels. The swimming pool with the "shaded throne" is devine ❤️ This side of the island feels quite authentic and unspoiled with loads of nice walks in the area. But you can also very easily get to the more bustling tourist areas, wether via a long walk or the easy bus connection. Panos - the house manager- was always available for questions or help with organising and much fun to chat to! Enough choices of restaurants and bars on walking distance! We will most definitely try to get back here at some point!

Characterful, spacious villa

Plenty of room for an extended family of 11 (including 5 children). Pool isn't very big and a parasol would be handy for having 2 babies with us but the villa is well equipped and Panos (the villa manager) couldn't have been more helpful in arranging transport, a sunset cruise and bringing us a bottle of champagne after we got married.

An amazing prooerty permitting the perfect Santorini experience

The Winery is a beautiful property located a 5 minute walk from the pictureque typical Santorini village of Megalachori. Our extended family spent 8 idyllic nights here in July 2017. It is very spacious and extremely well fitted out, with numerous areas allowing for privacy if needed but also with large enough eating areas for everyone to come together. Our kids loved the pool and feeding the mules in nearby fields. To get to Thira and Oia we had fun quads to drive along spectacular coastal roads, but were always happy to come back to the tranquility of the winery. We did day trips out and one highlight was a day sailing, which for some was the best day of their lives! Panos the villa manager was extremely helpful and guided us in all we wanted to do while on the island. Perfect accommodation for a perfect Greek island holiday.

Beautiful property, wonderful island!

Previous reviews described how wonderful the property was and we were not disappointed. The villa provided enough space for everyone to have some alone time yet allow us to be together as a family either on the terrace, around the pool or in the large main living area. We had everything we needed. Panos was an absolute gem. He helped us with hire cars, a boat trip and transport to 2 weddings. This is our first visit to santorini but we will be back. A beautiful island with warm and friendly people.and a beautiful property to be able to spend time in. Thank you for making our holiday memorable...Anne and family..

A wonderful trip & stunning villa

A wonderful trip & a superb, interesting & individual villa. The villa offered spectacular views, was in easy walking distance (little more than a few mins) to a local village offering shops, restaurants, & bakery (which i still miss!) The villa itself offers a wealth of space both for 'entertaining' but also gives everyone their own personal private space. (we were 8 adults, so one of the bedrooms wasn't even used.) We could spend as much time together or indeed apart as we wished! On a final note, the villa Manager Panos, was a god-send & superbly helpful, friendly & full of useful advice.

Absolutely Amazing!

We booked The Winery Estate for a week long gathering with friends and family, and couldn't have had a better experience! The Winery is beautiful, well-appointed and spacious. The views are gorgeous, and we loved the setting--perched just "above" the town of Megalochori, surrounded by fields (and a few donkeys), all within sight of several churches, and of course the ocean. And you can't write a review without mentioning the bakery that is a short walk from the Winery. We're still dreaming about the bakery. The Winery is well-cared for, with many features that could only be possible in a restored winery. The multiple outdoor terraces ensured that everyone had plenty of room stretch out and enjoy some quiet time, or gather with the group around the pool or dining area. Not only is the Winery itself amazing, but so is the villa manager. He helped us organize tours for our group, and was there every day to answer our many (and diverse) questions about the Winery and about life on Santorini. He provided all the help we could have asked for, and much more. We all had a very memorable stay on Santorini, due in large part to the wonderful accommodations provided by The Winery, and by the graciousness of the owner and villa manager. We can't wait to go back!

Beautiful large villa. Will return next year.

I don't usually write reviews but i thought this one was worth it. Its a very big property and rather impressive, the photos do not do it justice. Inside it is a very comfortable temperature and nice and clean, you do not even need the air con on. Outside there is plenty of space for everyone, and the pool is the ideal place to cool off after exploring the island in the day time. Villa manager and owners were always on hand to advise and answer our questions. The village the villa is in is very quaint and well located to visit other parts of the island. The island itself is magical and has been on our bucket list for many year. We were not disappointed.

Amazing villa, perfect week

we spent a week at this amazing villa. when we arrived we could not believe how impressive it was, its more like a castle. inside was well decorated, clean, spacious and fully equipped with everything you could possibly need. outside, there was just so much space, the different terraces offered our group of 12 enough space to really enjoy our holiday without feeling like we were on top of each other. the pool was a highlight. we loved the location, how peaceful it was, you really do get to unwind here and the views are stunning. the village of megalahori is very beautiful and has some very good restaurants, we loved feggera. the villa manager was great and knew just about everything about the island, she gave us some great recommendations and also booked us a catamaran trip to the volcano and hot springs where we had a bbq on board, and later in the week, horse riding for us girls. the cleaner came every other day and even babysat for us one night. overall, our time at this villa was one of the best holidays we have ever had, a truly fantastic, unforgettable week. would definitely recommend.

Why they chose this property

What makes this property unique

Around 1930 Canava Beko stopped producing wine. The property was abandoned and fell into disrepair, which was the condition in which we found and fell in love with this unique property. Starting in 2008 Canava Beko has undergone a loving 7 year restoration and modernisation bringing the property up to an immaculate standard to ensure a comfortable and carefree stay for all guests for what is now lovingly called ‘The Winery Estate ’

Furnished with care and attention to detail with pieces chosen to compliment unique architectural style, the property comfortably accommodates 12 guests in complete privacy.
