A beautiful, forgotten corner of Scotland

Most people pass through this area, but they should stay as it has so much to offer - sandy beaches, hill and valley walks, rocky coasts, artisan goods (pottery, textiles, glass), excellent food, heritage, wildlife (seals, ospreys, marsh harriers, and so much more!) There was a bit of confusion with the owners about which property we have actually booked, but that was all sorted ok. Could have done with better information about what was provided (e.g. no salt and pepper).

Lovely cottage in a tranquil setting

Well equipped, warm and cosy cottage. Loved the log burner on chilly nights. We had a relaxing holiday and coming back to the lovely cottage after a day out made for a fabulous holiday .

The Barn

The Barn was clean and cosy it had everything that made our stay comfortable . Loved the peaceful quiet surroundings and the roads were great to get out and visit the many attractions . Great walks to the local forest and to the beach . We used the local shops and cafes which we highly recommend. We loved the walks on the beach and watching the seals in the sea . We will have a return visit .

Paradise🥰

The barn is the most warm , welcoming ,comfy, cosy, place on the planet . It’s like going home . Absolutely everything you could possibly need is there for you. It is clean, comfortable, so peaceful. If you need somewhere to relax and get away from everything then this is the place to be. Charmain the caretaker is wonderful, she is always on hand and no problem is to big for her. She makes the cottage welcoming and she goes the extra mile to sort things out straight away, no messing. Can’t wait to return next year. Thankyou for letting us stay.

Cosy cottage

This was a very quiet and peaceful location. The cottage was cosy and well equipt and the property caretaker was very helpful. Our children enjoyed staying in the mezzanine rooms upstairs and the wood burner made evenings comfortable and cosy.

Great location, lovely comfortable barn.

Although very rural, the barn is only a short drive to everything you want to see. We went to Dornoch, Loch Ness and John O'Groats etc. The barn is very clean and has comfortable beds, a great shower, a good TV and plenty of kitchen essentials. We met the caretakers once and they were lovely.

Beautiful, Clean, Tranquil and Cosy

Had a wonderful relaxing time at this property. Everything is as it is show in the pictures with some upgrades i.e bigger TV, Tassimo Machine. Very clean and cosy. Definitely home from home and would highly recommend if you are happy not having WiFi or phone signal which we where. If I had to mark it out of 10, I would mark it as a 9.75 due to their only being a fridge and not fridge freezer. We are looking on returning next year.

Off the grid getaway

Loved every minute. Off the beaten track. No WiFi, not much of a phone signal. Great to just get away from the hustle bustle of every day life. Could very easily live in this barn very happily, and would recommend to anybody wanting fo a relaxing getaway.

A great week in a rustic cottage

We had a great week at the property. In a beautiful location, remote enough to get away from everything, but only 10 mins from Dornoch with restaurants, shops and a beautiful beach. It’s also close to distilleries and on the NC500. Kitchen was well stocked and Charmagne was responsive and helpful with any issues. There really is no WiFi or phone signal, so if you want to stay connected it’s not ideal. But was just what we wanted.

The barn could be so much more

We did enjoy the Highland holiday and made the most of the spectacular scenery but sadly we're disappointed in the standard of the barn such as being cold we used a spare quilt from upstairs bed and wasn't very clean with mould on saucepans.. The curtains were very crumpled and creased. With a little tlc the barn could be something special. We made the most of it though and were thankful for plentiful hot water and such tranquil surroundings and perfect weather.

Amazing Scotland

Riverside Barn was a great base for us as we were exploring the Highlands. The cottage has everything you need and the Highlands are truly amazing. Unexpectedly, we had a week of sunshine (with only a very few spells of rain)! Best holiday ever!

a great simple place for a quiet getaway

We enjoyed our stay immensely. The property is only 5/6 minutes drive from Dornoch and is well fitted out with a nice bathroom and kitchen. I was especially happy with the tranquility. It is situated on a quiet road and you don't have the noise of cars that is so often in the background in the cities. We will be sure to come back...

Real cosy little charm tucked away in the stunning Highland countryside

We had the most wonderful holiday and found the cottage was ideal for exploring nearby Dornoch, Loch Ness and the Highlands countryside. The cottage was really cosy with the log fire being the highlight. Cottage had everything we needed including a fully equipped kitchen for us to do all our own cooking. The surrounding area is stunning with lots of wildlife to keep us entertained. Highly recommended. We hope to be back again soon.

Quaint and quiet, ideal for the holiday where you just want to be away from it all.

I found my overall stay very pleasant. Away from the hustle and bustle of city life, it was very relaxing to be in a quiet almost secluded area of the Scottish countryside. The barn itself was very lovely, quaint and cosy where it had most of the modern conveniences readily at hand. The only issue was that there was a lack of signal for our phones but in the grand scheme of things, it's not much to moan about. Only located a few miles from the town of dornoch itself, it's a quick drive to a lovely, friendly town with a lovely beach. I would definitely recommend another stay here.

Klein aber fein / Small but nice

We really enjoyed the week in the small, rustic cottage. We were worried that it wouldn't get warm, but that was unfounded. I've been to many holiday homes, but this was by far the quaint and coziest house. We love it and really regretted only living in it for a week. Chamaine and her family are very helpful. Kind regards again and thanks for everything. The cottage is a bit remote, but that doesn't matter since we were out on the motorcycle every day anyway.

Why they chose this property

The property was originally bought by my parents as a holiday home in the late 60's , It didn't have electricity for many years so all our holidays were a great adventure spoting deer in the field at the front and catching baby salmon in the stream .
Over the years the property has been renovated and at the end of 2011 was completely re done inside and out but kept its original character it even has a dish washer !

What makes this property unique

Rural , Quiet , Great cycling and walking from the front door . Good fishing in the area in Lochs and Rivers . Lots of Golfing in the area , Close to the coast and lots of place to see bird life , sandy beaches , seals and Dolphins .
