About this property

Luxury riverside lodge in idyllic setting

'Hare House' is a beautifully decorated 'home from home' set in glorious Wiltshire countryside, yet within walking distance of shops, cafes and pubs in the ancient town of Wilton. It is perfect for couples seeking total relaxation in a luxury retreat. It is also great for home-working, with excellent wifi. This is a great base for exploring Stonehenge, Avebury, Salisbury, New Forest and Bath. Bournemouth is a short drive and some beautiful Dorset beaches are in easy driving distance. Wilton has a good range of shops including a bakery and supermarket, together with pubs and cafes for meals. It is home to the Earl of Pembroke who lives in Wilton House, which has been used as the setting for many films, including The Crown, and which is usually open to the public.

Hare House is a self-contained Lodge, adjacent to our home. It has a well equipped separate kitchen; luxury bathroom with bath and shower; and a super-kingside Hypnos bed with Egyptian cotton sheets.. The sitting area has a lovely Swedish log burner which provides warmth in the cooler days and evenings. The Lodge is very well insulated and always feels very warm and cosy.

Enjoy sitting by the lake, filled with water lilies or sit on our private island and cook on the fire-pit in the moonlight....

We appreciate how important a comfortable bed and offer a choice of pillows, Egyptian cotton sheets, together with fluffy towels and essential toiletries.

Your Welcome Pack will have everything you need to get you started for breakfast, and will include milk, local artisan bread, butter, muesli and granola and a variety of teas and coffee. You have a Nespresso machine if you wish to bring your favourite capsules. Cooking essentials such as oil, vinegars, seasoning are provided.

The River Nadder flows through our garden and provides the perfect spot to watch for the kingfishers, water vole, heron and fish that live on the river. You are welcome to wander on our island to meet the sheep and chickens that roam freely. You also have a very private area of the garden with your own riverside deck to watch the sun set. Or enjoy a swim in the plunge pool we have created in the River Nadder!

We are surrounded by beautiful countryside and there are many wonderful walks through the Chalke Valley and beyond. We have many walking guides of the immediate area and the New Forest and can offer advice on walking routes.

Delightful, comfortable and well equipped, Hare House is perfect for a peaceful holiday and well located for exploring the area. Sara and John made us welcome and provided plenty of local maps and leaflets as well as many thoughtful extras such as bread and coffee.

Great place.

The host was very kind and helpful. Sara and John made the experience wonderful. We were able to rest and reset in this little patch of heaven. The views of nature and the small village were splendid. Although everything was in walking distance, it was as if we were tucked away from the village and felt a sense of peace and tranquility here. Words cannot clearly express the gratitude.

Exceptional place and hosts

What an absolutely stunning place to stay. Whilst it's a lovely small place it has everything to make a great stay for a couple. From comfy sofas to a lovely dining space and a well equipped kitchen, there was nothing needed that was not provided. And a nice loaf of bread, milk, butter and some cake all ready on arrival. What makes it extra special is the location and the lovely hosts Sara and John. With outdoor seating looking over their beautiful garden ( complete with river, sheep, swans and the gorgeous dog Flo) it's idyllic, and Sara and John make you feel so welcome. This place is an absolute treet.

Lovely Property in beautiful surroundings

Fabulous stay at Hare House. The hosts, Sara & John, are really friendly & have a wealth of knowledge of the local area, & are not intrusive but are there should you need anything. The facilities are great & there is absolutely everything you need. The garden is beautiful & tranquil & we have spent time walking along the banks of the River Nadder, which is a lovely bonus right on your door step. We have had a lovely restful long weekend in a little bit of paradise in Wilton, & we are looking forward to returning soon.

A most perfect place to stay.

My husband and I had a week at Hare House and it is possibly the most perfect place to stay. The peace and quiet of the garden with the river at the bottom is sublime, although we were not lucky enough to see otters or kingfishers we did see herons and a couple of fish. A very short walk away is the busy village which has a great bakery. There are lots of places to visit from here or you could spend time chilling and relaxing. The place is well equipped and the bed very comfy too. Sara and John were very friendly but not invasive , perfect.

Fantastic haven

A fabulous home with everything you could need. We arrived after a horrendous journey from the north, within minutes Sara and John, without question, went the extra mile and provided a very welcome drink. Hare House was spotlessly clean throughout with lovely furnishings and decor of good quality. The bed was huge and super comfy, the kitchen excellently equipped and many tourist guides for the area were available. There was also a vast collection of overseas guides which made interesting reading. We also like the big choice of dvds. The location of the home is good, in very easy walking distance of local shops and restaurants, a small river runs at the bottom of the garden and kayaks are available to use. A small island also belongs to the owners and we had a lovely walk around this, meeting the sheep!! The garden is beautiful and we often had our breakfast sitting on the patio watching the wildlife. Sara and John are lovely, friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Their little dog Flo is adorable. All in all the home is exceptional, we had a fabulous stay, thank you Sara and John.

Everything we needed and expected.

A superb holiday let in a beautiful setting. Blessed with lovely weather for our 4 night stay, the car didn't move from the parking lot. Basically we chilled out. The private gardens provide plenty of shade and the pontoon at the river was a favourite spot to enjoy the scenery and birdlife. The owners are just lovely; helpful but not intrusive. The accommodation is perfect, clean and well equipped. We couldn't have wished for more.

Wonderful place

Sara & John were amazing hosts there was everything you could think of in the cabin and the grounds were wonderful. The location is easy to Salisbury via bus or park and ride and Wilton itself has plenty of food choices as well as a co-op. I was able to work on the 1st day due to great WiFi connection and the weather was glorious so we spent all weekend with the patio doors open. We’d definitely recommend the cabin and will return.

Blissful

We stayed 5 nights at Hare House. We wanted a quiet relaxed time away and we weren’t disappointed. John was there to greet us when we arrived and run through a few things about the house and the grounds. The view is just stunning. We were just happy to sit and watch the swans. John and Sara were both on hand for and help or advise but only when asked. The place was clean and amazingly snug. All the essentials were there such as tea, coffee , cooking oil etc. And Salisbury only a short drive with a good selection of supermarkets to get the rest. Will be recommending to our friends and family.

About the host

Host profile image
I love meeting people which is why I decided to join Homeway as a host in September 2015. I also know how important it is have privacy when you are travelling - my husband John and I travel widely and we love it when we can find somewhere which offers the perfect balance of leaving us alone to get on with our holiday, but being on hand to offer local knowledge and advice - ideally over a cold beer! I hope we can achieve this with our guests.
We have sheep and chickens and have a friendly working cocker spaniel called Flo. Our guests are welcome to roam free in the garden and on our island over the river. John and I look forward to meeting you and sharing a special part of Wiltshire with you.

Why they chose this property

Hare House is a beautifully furnished, contemporary lodge which is well-equipped for everything you might need for your stay. It is very light with views of open countryside, and the River Nadder runs along the south side of the lodge. Spacious, warm and with everything you need for your holiday within walking distance in Wilton. This includes two excellent pub / restaurants, coffee shops, baker and supermarkets.

What makes this property unique

Peaceful and quiet with uninterrupted views of countryside yet within walking distance of good pubs, baker, and supermarkets. Private riverside garden, wild swimming in our own river pool and a canoe for quiet paddles up the river Nadder.
