A little about the area:
This property is situated in the depths of the Garfagnana in a mountain location. The views really are unrivalled from this place, and one feels on is literally on 'top of the world'!

This is a location that just feels romantic...

There is a large flat garden with lots of room for children to run around in the cool mountain air.

However hot the daytime is, the evenings are wonderfully cool for sleeping due to the altitude.

Despite the remote location, the village of Carregine is 6km away and here you will find a couple of restaurants, bars and basic shops. There are also 3 restaurants within say 4km of the house.

The closest village of Metello often has small festas, either roasting the 'Porchetta' or Pizza evenings.

The area even has some skiing in the Winter and there is an alpine feel to some of the area.. Ideal for walkers!

The local market town of Castelnuovo, with all facilities and famous for its Thursday morning market is a 20 min drive. This town is a lively little town and also boasts its own Fortress.

For days out, why not visit Barga, a beautiful mediaeval town with cobbled streets, lots of quality restaurants, lovely architecture, great views, art galleries and a cathedral. Just a 40 min drive.

The Province City of Lucca is 1 hr 20 min away and is a wonderful day out. Here one can cycle around the fully intact mediaeval walls, meander around the narrow streets, visit some of the 100 churches, climb some towers, eat ice cream in the many piazzas, take in some opera, shop till you drop and then sleep under the trees in the wall 'park areas'! Or, just enjoy a leisurely drink and people watch for the afternoon....

Further afield there is Pisa, 1 hr 40 mins or Florence, say 2 hrs.

There are so many options more locally:

The Grotta del Vento - the famous Wind Caves

Swimming in the river

Visiting the ancient fortress of Verrucole

Visiting the Protected National Parks

Visiting Marble Quarries where the world famous Carrara Marble is found.

The list is endless if one wishes to explore, but it is difficult to want to leave this lovely house and its environs since it really is a little piece of paradise!

Paradise

My family and I stayed at this property for a week in June, and and we cannot recommend it highly enough. The photographs don't do it justice, seeing is believing. The peace, tranquility and privacy are superb , the drive up the road is well worth it believe me! Castelnouvo is a small pleasant town with plenty of little shops and a weekly market, the locals are very friendly. I'd like to thank the owners for the lovely bottles of wine, while not pretending to be an expert I can safely say they were delicious!! Grazie!! The house itself is excellent and everything is to a high standard, cool enough at night to sleep comfortably. We will return here again hopefully. Arriverderci!

Back again

Having stayed here for one week last year we decided to book for 2weeks in early September this year. The weather forecast on the run up to the holiday was not looking great but in the end it turned out to be 27 to 30 degrees pretty much every day apart from a couple. We do love the house and the peaceful location but as we mentioned last year the pool needs to be heated. We sat by it every day and I did force myself to get in it on a couple of occasions but it was just too cold to enjoy even in the current temperatures. It did spoil the overall holiday feeling having it there but not being able to enjoy it. We still love the house though!

A week in Heaven

The situation of Pian di Lucca is stunningly beautiful - even better than the photograph. And the property itself is very well cared for and equipped. Silvia Bertolini gave us a comprehensive briefing at the beginning of the week, and the Pizza evening she organised with Paolo was absolutely delightful. We had a heatwave during our stay, with temperatures high even by Tuscan standards, but the lovely pool kept us cool. We were 3 generations of family, and this was the perfect place for us to all get together. We would have no hesitation in repeating the booking.

Beautiful villa and a breathtaking view

The villa, the pool and the view was exactly as described and even better. Upon our arrival we were welcomed by the owners from whom we had good customer service during our stay. We would surely recommend this house to everybody.

Great property in stunning location in an unspoilt corner of NW Tuscany

Our first visit to the Garfagnana! Tuscany without the tourists- lots of hilltop towns to explore. Close-ish to the beautiful beach of Forte de Marmi for ‘that Riviera touch’ via a tortuous but amazing mountain road with shrines on each hairpin! Local food fantastic value from numerous mountain restaurants and local produce as always amazing. Activities locally if you don’t want to just chill poolside included kayaking and gorge traversing both of which were brilliant Property is immaculate, pool perfect and Andrea and sister Silvia were so helpful and kind throughout our stay Local train services excellent for easy trips to Lucca where the city wall biking is unique and a must do! You don’t need to go to Florence-‘go to the Garfagnana ‘ instead and see the real Tuscany!

Closer to heaven

Wow! That was our first impression of this property and it’s location. If you are tempted by the photos online then just book it as it does not disappoint. The views are just stunning and the villa itself is perfect. The infinity pool is great but very cold, that would be my one improvement to this property, pool heating. If we ever win the lottery we will be putting in a bid for this place, that says it all. Tutti fantastico 👍🏼 Grazie, Douglas and Carol 2nd to 9th June18

WOW - paradise

Unbelievable .. where do you start on describing this place ! .. this is the best villa we have ever taken, so good we have already booked it for next year. its very close to heaven, the house is a very usable format for a big family or two families. The kitchen is the best equipped we have ever come across in the last 10 years. We have stayed all over Tuscany from vine yards just outside Sienna, Greve and around the north of Florence, north Tuscany is less crowded, greener and Luca is brilliant (as seen on Top Gear) Enjoy the tranquility, we were lucky enough to be there during the heatwave in July 2017, we enjoyed 37-38C most days but being on a mountain, there was a lovely breeze just enough to make sleeping comfortable. The pool has a dark liner, which means it gets warmer and has a salt water cleaning system so no nasty chemicals. The BBQ and Pizza oven work well, we enjoyed a few nights on the lower garden. You can buy pizza dough in the supermarket,so just a case of "man build fire", roll out the dough and add some toppings! You need to take it easy getting there, the roads are small and twisty .. takes about 15-20 mins from Garfagnana, and there's not many shops nearby so you need to stock up. This is the place where you arrive, chill and leave totally revived, having read many books, or the reasonably good internet access (over wifi) its not really somewhere you use as a base to explore. Easily accessible with a regular car, the parking is good.

A house with an amazing view and very peacefull.

If you are looking for peace and quit in a beautifull environment, than this house is ideal. The owners are very helpful and daughter Sylvia knows English what is always helpful if your Italian doesn't go much further than "bon jorno" The distance to the nearest bigger towns (Lucca, Pisa) shouldn't be underestimated, but still feasible for a daytrip. The cycling is heavier then expected with quite challenging climbs. Tip: the bakery in Carregine (10 minutes drive) offers baguettes even better than in France and you should try the salty Manninna. We will return to this beautiful place.

Fantastic peaceful hideaway

The property was lovely and comfortable, high in the mountains - the roads were better than I expected. Peaceful, quite remote but we found a great restaurant not too far away. If you want to get away from everything this is perfect. Amazing views, owner very helpful and left us some of his own wine.

Fantastic location, great hideaway!

The photos on the website are great but the reality is so much better. This property is the perfect location for a family getaway or romantic stay in the Tuscan hills north of Lucca. The farmhouse has been renovated to an excellent standard, fully equipped and was spotlessly clean. The infinity swimming pool was incredible as were the views. The nearest town is 25 minutes downhill so as long as you plan provisions well, the feeling of getting away from it all applies fully. A fabulous place to stay and worthy of a repeat visit!!

Stunning and peaceful

faultless hosts, faultless decor and a faultless stay. Have stayed all over Toscana and in Garfagnana a number of times. This property is great and the pool pictures are 100% accurate (we took one of our own early one morning). Thoroughly recommended.

A superb property in a wondeful location

We stayed in July as a party of six and were met at the house by the friendly owners. Everything was just as promised in the photos - except perhaps the views are even better in real life. The house is well-equipped and finished to a high standard. The garden and pool get the sun all day and in July we were able to dine out on the terrace each evening until it went dark and the fireflies came out. The owners were both helpful and quick to fix any problems. They also made lovely wine! The location is great for walking, sightseeing or just relaxing by the pool and we would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful house. We already miss the views from the bedroom windows so hope to return soon.

Beauty, Comfort, Great Hosts!

It was our first trip to Italy, and this was the perfect family dwelling. The pictures don't begin to capture the breathtaking Dolomites or the outstanding accommodations! The kitchen is a gem! So convenient and easy to cook. We had a chef come in to fix dinner on our last day, and he loved the kitchen, too. We took walks/hikes on the surrounding trails, and relaxed by the gorgeous pool which, by the way, has beautiful night lighting!! The owner fixed pizza in the outdoor pizza oven one evening, and it was a highlight of our trip with fresh, delicious ingredients and gracious conversation...and fabulous wines. We did not mind the narrow and winding roads on the days we drove to Lucca (90 minutes) or Florence (2.5 hours), but be aware of the challenging driving that we saw as a Tuscan adventure rather than a negative. It's the perfect get-away!
