Mostly great, some issues

The property overall is lovely, amazing architecture and the grounds are beautiful. The problem I had was the accessibility for my elderly parents. It’s probably my fault but the description says ground floor apartment, I did not realize it was actually two floors with the main sitting, dining and kitchen upstairs. It does say ‘ first floor’ but to an American that means ground floor. It was very difficult for them on the stairs. The main area , on the first floor is great, well equipped kitchen and comfortable living space. The little garden is pretty but we didn’t really have the weather to use it. The main bedroom was fine but the second bedroom is tiny , very cramped and hard to move around for two adults, also the furniture in there needs updating. I understand that fire doors are probably required but every door in the apartment is heavy to open and closes hard. It’s frustrating trying to move around when no door stays open, there needs to be some doorstops. All in all we enjoyed our stay but if you have any mobility issues it’s not for you.

One of a kind experience

We loved The Chapter House at The Highland Club. The entire property is amazing, and very interesting. We had plenty of room to spread out and relax upstairs, downtairs and outside in the private courtyard of The Chapter House. We only stayed here 2 nights and had busy days so we were only able to enjoy the property for the evenings. We wish we would have had more time here just to relax and enjoy the property. The location of The Highland Club is excellent...walking distand to restaurants, shops, pubs and of course the property is on Loch Ness, so just sitting on a bench watching for Nessie was part of each eveing and morning. We highly recommend The Chapter House as it is one of the few units on the main floor (no steps to haul luggage). The unit itself has a set of stairs with the 2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, large living room and large private courtyard on the main floor then the kitchen and an open living/dining/office room with gorgeous windows and ceiling on the upstairs floor. This unit has plenty of living spaces for about any sized group. Check-in was easy if you follow the instructuons provided. Otherwise, may be difficult to figure out, but we had no problem as the instructions were on point. Ft Augustus has a handful of meal options, very limited after 7:30p (most kitchens closed at 8:00p). The Boatyard Restaurant is a beutiful place to eat. Food was mediocre, but worth a stop. The Bothy was better food and a more local crowd/pub. Decent shop nearby for supplies

Could not be better

Although we were just a couple of two persons, we certainly enjoyed the spacious old chapter house. Further it s a beaitiful area, with a very quiet golf course were we have played the 18 holes three times. It is a pitty that the Highland Park Club has no restaurant. Nevertheless the chapter house will be recommended!

Girls trip to Scotland

The location was great. We stayed in the chapter house and it was definitely able to accommodate a larger family even having equipment for small children. We had a small miscommunication on our check in day but once we found the right phone number and were able to get into our room everything was great. It’s a beautiful, well maintained property with lots of wildlife and a short walk into town with some small shops and a gas station for snacks/food/gas/etc. The chapter house is a two level space. Both bedrooms and bathrooms are on the lower level along with an extra game/sitting room that leads out to a small private courtyard. The upper level has the kitchen with a large dining table and the tv with a couch and two chairs for relaxing as well. Everything was very clean. The Abbey itself is very cool to experience and the grounds are nice to explore with access out the back right into Loch Ness. We would definitely stay here again if we ever get the chance to go back!

Amazingly renovated fort/monestery

This was an absolutely unique experience staying in a former fort and monastery. The amenities were surprisingly updated and modern while maintaining such a historic charm. The renovation of the former chapel into a modern pool area was impressive and we truly enjoyed the dark wood, stained glassed lounge complete with games and a huge snooker table. We also took advantage of the outdoor game of croquet on the rear, loch side lawn. We will never forget our awesome stay at this extremely unique property!

Highlands Adventure

We traveled to Scotland to celebrate with three adult children the end of college tuition payments. Everyone loved the architecture and amenities of the monastery. We all enjoyed the pool, game room, the Boathouse Restaurant, and outdoor chess at the monastery. The quaint town and local hiking opportunity’s are a bonus.

Fantastic,Convenient and Spacious accommodation close to all amenities, Canal and Loch Ness.

Most enjoyable stay in late September 2018, proving very flexible to accommodate land-based family adults and children whilst combining with yacht charter on The Caledonian Canal and Loch Ness. (2-3 minutes from Boat pontoons at the entrance to the Canal). The attractive conversion within the Abbey Church provided two good sized bedrooms (one ensuite), with added flexibility in lower lounge to accommodate the children on sofa beds, with great open plan dining and kitchen galley on upper level - allowing all 9 of us to sit at the large dining table for meals when required. Added benefit of being able to use the complex swimming pool, steam room & sauna, club lounge and outside children's play area made for a very memorable holiday for all concerned. Definitely THE place to stay in the area offering good self-catering facilities, as well as options of pubs, "The Lovat" and "Boathouse" restaurants nearby. Very good fish & chips at "The Monster". We hope to return next year sometime.

Great Holiday

We had a wonderful break at Chapter house and hope to visit again in the future. The accommodation and location were second to none. The only problem being I think I’ve left a pair of pink shoes there which I recently purchased . I wonder if you would be kind enough to send them on! If you send me your account number I’ll forward on any postage and service costs for this. I’m sorry to have to bother you with this. Thanks for a great break Jane and family

There are some positive and some downsides

Cannot fault the location or the attractiveness of the property. Disappointingly unable to get hot water for the bath even with the instructions to run the basin taps first to let some hot down, and the shower was also only tepid. The shaver points in both bathrooms didn't work, unless there was a switch somewhere, which we could not discern. However, we had the most marvellous weather, although were unable to take advantage of that in the yard, as the garden furniture was too dirty to use and the table looked as if it should have had a glass top which had been replaced with plywood, naturally very weathered and filthy. It was only a yard , no flowers or proper lawn to be seen, and what was there hadn't been cut. I wish I could be more positive as the location with the weather was beautiful.

A touch of history

As me and my brother originally planned this trip as a surprise trip for my father, I wanted to include one location that would blew his mind away. And the Chapter House was to be that location. It played it's intended part admirably. All of my family members were impressed with the history and grandeur displayed before us as we entered the Abbey and were shown around by the manager. What an absolutely fantastic location! Right next to Loch Ness even! As a former archaeologist I was enjoying thoroughly walking the halls of the Abbey and admiring the detail. I loved the Chapter House, all the detail, the rustic feel and atmosphere. This place feels a little bit like magic. My parents were amazed, as were both my brothers. We loved our stay and enjoyed the pool and some games, like chess and croquet. The only shame is that Fort Augustus seemed to attract bus loads of tourists, which kind of disturbed the peace of the village as it was swarming with tourbus groups. We have one small point for improvement, some of the beds feel worn, and that way have become uncomfortable.

Excellente location

Beautiful place and area

This place was great! Great historical building and area. Close to a lot of places to see and go. Loved the Loch and the restaraunt. The rooms had everything we needed. The only drawback is that is about 50 minute drive to Inverness which is where we booked a couple of tours but the drive wasn't too bad.

Modern luxury within historic settings- well worth the money!

Arriving at the gates our jaws dropped. "Is this really where we are staying?" When we were shown around the historic stone work and large walk ways it was all too much to take in. Then we entered our apartment in the Chapter House and it too was breathtaking. The bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and lounge areas were modern and had everything that you need. It was a perfect base for exploring the surrounding rugged but beautiful countryside. In the evening you sit by the Loch with a glass of wine, sharing yourself with the midgies. A place to definitely recommend and return to on a future Scottish foray.
