Pool lovely for a dip after a day at the beach. Owners very good with help and ideas and Juliet who greets you is lovely, as are her meals! You definitely need a car but easy to get about the island so long as you avoid the potholes! We had a lovely time

Almost heaven

This is a great villa in a great location, providing like us, you would prefer to be among the locals instead of being stuck with the tourist. It's best to have a car on hand if you are staying here, at least for part of your stay because the local bars / mini marts won't sustain you for the week or more, as charming as they are. The villa is showing small signs of tiredness / age in parts, maybe more outside than in, but nothing serious and the longer we stayed, the more we got used to it and enjoyed it. The great plus of the location of the villa is also sadly met with what for me was a big downside and that is because it is in the heart of a local semi rural hamlet type of place, the locals have clearly got to get on with their lives. This means that gardening strimmer's and the like would disturb the peace now and then. More irritating though, was the yapping and barking of several dogs that surround the villa. Don't get me wrong, for many this wouldn't be an issue, as it's certainly not a constant thing, but for me, my recondite hatred of these little furry four legged noisy crap factories, is such that I want to strangle them the minute they start yapping at each other. This basically disturbs my chakra, enough sadly to take the edge of what otherwise would have been an excellent holiday. If, like most of the world it seems, you do like dogs, then there's nothing about this place that should stop you having a great holiday. Barbados is really very good !

Inland Barbados is a Vibe!

We had a wonderful stay at Golden Palm. It’s central location was a great base from which to explore the island. We enjoyed coming back to the peace and quiet away from the hotels and tourist spots on the west and south coasts. Inland Barbados is so beautiful and this property gives you the opportunity to see it daily. The living areas are comfortable and air con in the bedrooms was very welcome! As others have said the garden and pool are terrific- it’s a good size for a family and great for swimming, dipping or lazing on a lilo! Will never forget walking out to the sound of the birds on the first morning of our trip…garden gets good sun all day. The kitchen is well equipped, place is clean and a good size generally. In a quiet residential neighbourhood where we felt safe and secure. The property is in need of a bit of cosmetic TLC here and there but nothing that impacted our visit. The Welcome Pack was super useful and big up the property manager Juliet - she’s a real star and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. Vrbo hosts also very responsive in lead up to the booking. View from the master en suite bathroom was my favourite, especially if you’re lucky enough to catch a sunset whilst showering! The wifi and cable TV worked well, so teen daughter kept happy. Car is essential. We were very happy with our choice to stay here as of course accommodation can make or break a holiday. Golden Palm was definitely a make!

Very good value Villa

The villa was fine, a few things were not working when we arrived which was frustrating but most were fixed during our stay. The house was clean and comfortable with some areas in need of a little tlc but you really can't fault it for the price. Location is OK about 25 mins from the coast the thing that is not mentioned is the traffic, if you are returning from Speightstown/Holetown area between 4-6pm allow about an extra hour as the traffic is terrible. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful setting

We had such an amazingly relaxed time at the villa. We were met by Juliette and Franklyn at the property - who were just delightful. They were so accommodating and welcoming. Certainly the best property managers we’ve ever dealt with. The pool is great and my family never wanted to leave! The beaches are a must and Fish Fry was so worth experiencing. We will certainly be back in Barbados. It’s so worth the flight!

Perfect base

Three spacious bedrooms with good air conditioning and plenty of storage. Large open plan downstairs with comfortable seating in the lounge, dining area to easily accommodate six and a kitchen with everything you could need. Excellent outdoor secure space for lounging, barbecuing and cooling off in the pool. Were met at the Villa by Juliet, the property manager, who was very helpful and friendly. A great central base from which to tour the whole of the island.

Lovely Property, Great Stay

Lovely house in rural Barbados, really nice, deep pool for cooling off in, comfy beds and everything (literally everything) you need for cooking/entertaining with a large cable TV selection to boot. We had a couple of problems that were swiftly dealt with by Juliette and Franklin (the house management company) and the communication with Peter and Donna in the UK was always prompt, the welcome pack they send with all the info in is great! Very highly recommended, lovely stay. Try and pop down to Cheers Bar for a game of pool with the locals, really really friendly people.

Central location, great facilities

Had a great 9 nights in this centrally located villa. With a car, it is ideal to explore the whole island, but without, would be remote as it is some 20 minutes from any beach. Facilities are excellent, with all modern amenities to hand, including a family pool. Residential area, with secure feel, although the local guard dogs can be a pain at unsocialable hours.

Beautiful, spacious and well equipped villa in a quiet, friendly central location.

We abslutely loved our stay at Golden Palms. This is a lovely, spacious, open-plan villa, with a light, airy feel. Even as a family of 6, we didn't feel overcrowded here. The location was great - being inland gave us a nice insight into local village life, and we weren't more than 30 mins away by car from any destination on the isalnd. The beds were very comfortable, and we all slept well, lulled by the gentle sounds of the caribbean (crickets, or frogs?). The property is secure and very well maintained. There is a lovely pool to relax in after a hard day exploring the island, and if you're an early riser there was a family of green monkeys that regularly wondered into the garden attracted by the mangos. We liked to walk into the village to buy eggs from a neighbour, or use the local shop. My husband enjoyed the odd beer or game of pool at the local bar, everyone was really friendly. The kitchen was very well equipped, with everything you could possibly need to cook well, including a huge fridge freezer for storing food. The addition of good laundry equiptment was also invaluable with four children. We really couldn't fault the villa. The owners (Peter and Donna), provided us with lots of information and were hugely helpful. If we return to Barbados, we would absolutely return to this villa, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

Spacious, well equipped villa with great pool and gorgeous garden

From the moment of booking the villa to the moment of checking out, everything that was within the control of the owners Peter and Donna was managed really efficiently and we were not left disappointed with any aspect of the holiday. Yes, there are dogs that bark uncontrollably at times but it’s infrequent and not incessant noise, and the villa is in land so it’s a fair old schlep to some of the beaches, but that shouldn’t detract from the villa. However, the pool and garden are great for just doing nothing, so after you’ve stocked up at a local supermarket and fish monger, just open a cold one, throw some amazing fresh tuna or flying fish on the bbq and enjoy. We also enjoyed the delights of some Barbadian food, home cooked by chef Pauline; Jason at Bryce rentals provided us with an excellent car rental deal and Juliet was on hand to help us out with any additional requests. All in all a most exceptional introduction to the delights of Barbados.

Fabulous place to stay

Guest house was very clean and spacious could do without the dogs nextdoor waking me up after a late night though Having the pool area was a added bonus very nice and chilled ,my only concern was the top step leading up to pool from patio was abit of a blind spot when stepping down, and as my elderly mother was on holiday with us and stayed a few days the upper stairs in house without a handrail made it very difficult for her to manage without assistance . On the whole as I had viewed house last November it was even better than I remembered absolutely loved it and would definitely stay there again

Staying at Golden Palm St George

Enjoyed staying here immensely. The house was clean, open plan, modern with a neutral colour scheme. My husband & I found Golden Palm to be comfortable, spacious & airy. Golden palms has no air conditioning & no downstairs ceiling or floor fans. However there are a number of windows which let in a lot of light & afforded good views around the property & when the windows are open provide a beautiful through breeze which was cooling & airy. All of the windows throughout the house had mosquito screens fitted. The patio door was not screened but we kept the doors closed when we were existing & entering from the patio & this kept the house bug free. No mosquito bites at while at the house but a couple when we were out & about else where. The pool was wonderful and the garden beautiful but some water proof cushions for the out door chairs and recliners would have been welcomed. That being said, it didn't detract from the pleasure of relaxing in beautiful Barbados. I don't want to spend the whole review going over every feature as what's available is mention in the property over view but just to highlight that Peter & Donna have tried to provide for your needs & comfort to make your holiday experience in their home as comfortable & as positive as possible. We only returned a week ago & already are in talks with them again about booking a repeat visit.

Best holiday ever

The house was really really lovely, we had the best time. The rooms were very clean and the garden was really beautiful. A brilliant idea that beach towels, noodles, beach chairs were provided, we used them every day! Phillip and Juliet were just the loveliest people so helpful, engaging and we all loved them very much. We really enjoyed the 'wildlife' of big toads, fireflies, hummingbirds, cats, monkeys, big snails, barbadian green finches, blackbirds; all an added bonus. We would come back in a heartbeat, thank you so so much

Stylish, clean, minimalist and great location

We stayed for three weeks in August /September and had a wonderful time. Property was clean and tidy with minimalist theme which encourages relaxation. Outside is an ideal sized swimming pool which is cleaned weekly, gardens maintained fortnightly and all enclosed with security gates for peace of mind. The estate the property is on is a highly sought-after area in St George so all clean, tidy and pleasant neighbours. As others have mentioned the noise made by the neighbours dogs is, really, the only gripe. The house is equipped with full kitchenware and domestic tools to help you stay comfortable in this, your home from home. We were thoroughly pleased with our choice of accommodation for this holiday and will consider for future trips. We would also recommend for others with a family intending to stay in Barbados. For us we had four adults and a toddler and we all loved it. Thank you to the owners and the property maintenance team for this property. Xxx

very clean, exactly as seen in photos. All amenities working perfectly

This was our third time travelling to the beautiful island of Barbados. However we bought my cousin, brother and their partners this time for their first experience. The villa was perfect for this! There was plenty of space, it was very clean and Juliette was so helpful the entire time. We were expecting a storm on the Tuesday of our stay and Peter called to make sure everything was okay. We also had a delayed flight and Juliette phoned us first thing to inform us which meant we were able to organise ourselves rather than arriving at the airport and finding this information out. We had a wonderful time in the pool and the garden is a definite sun spot. There were a lot of dogs in the area barking but we are aware this is completely out of the owners control. Overall it is a wonderful villa with plenty of space and very clean. I am very pleased that my family had their first experience of Barbados at this villa and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

About the host

Hosted by Peter and Donna Burke

Host profile image
Hi. We are Peter and Donna and we live in the UK. We have always loved Barbados where our family are from and and have visited the island regularly over the last 40 years.

Why they chose this property

We designed and built The Golden Palm in 2007 as our luxury home away from home and we've lovingly furnished it with art and finishings from both the UK and Barbados.

The villa is beautifully cared for by our lovely housekeeper and guests will find crisp cotton sheets and towels on arrival plus beach towels for use by the pool or beach. If you are looking for a smart, comfortable, non-smoking, family villa, we would be pleased to welcome you.

What makes this property unique

Whilst this property is in the perfect location, away from the hustle and bustle of the town, you can easily access the beach and all other attractions whenever you need to, approx. 15 mins away. Attractions on our doorstep include the famous historic Gun Hill Signal station, with panoramic views of almost the entire island and Orchid World just 8 mins away.

It is authentically Barbadian, wonderfully friendly locals, safe, private and secluded. A great way to spend a relaxing, stress free holiday.
