About this property

❤️Seaside Fisherman Cottage❤️Aldeburgh⛱️

Arwen Cottage is a beautiful Suffolk fisherman's period cottage, believed to date back to around the 1800's. It's a delightful two-storey holiday cottage in the heart of Aldeburgh, 25 yards from the beach. This traditional seaside fisherman cottage sleeps 4 people and offers the perfect cosy retreat for families and couples seeking a relaxing holiday or a romantic break. Arwen cottage is just a stone's throw from the beach and perfect as a base for touring the picturesque suffolk coastal area.

A gorgeous haven for couples and families, it is a wonderful holiday base throughout the year, with coast, countryside, culture & food on the doorstep. Days at the beach, sailing, horseriding, fishing, birdwatching, relaxing galore!

This lovely Victorian fisherman's cottage is in the heart of Aldeburgh on a quiet street, 25 yards from the beach and 25 yards from Aldeburgh high street. Arwen cottage is a lovely cosy cottage, full of character and exceptionally comfortable, clean and well-equipped, including the use of unlimited Wi-Fi and super fast broadband.

Arwen cottage is close to an excellent selection of shops, restaurants, characterful pubs, excellent art galleries, a cinema and a theatre. The cottage is also a few paces from the most famous fish and chip shop in the country.

There are excellent restaurants just a couple of minutes walk away - The Lighthouse, Regatta and Brudenell are all excellent as well as several others. As you step out of the cottage door the promenade and beach are a few paces in one direction, and the high street just yards away the other way. Despite the perfect location, the cottage is delightfully peaceful.

There is also public parking just outside the cottage.

The cottage has been re-furbished in a light but luxurious style and has been brought into the 21st century, with contemporary kitchen and bathroom and very comfy furnishings. On the ground floor it has a lovely cosy living room and dining space with a well-equipped kitchen and bathroom. There is a private sunny courtyard with outside furniture too.

On the first floor it has a master bedroom which is spacious and peaceful with Victorian sash windows and a solid wood frame king size bed. There is also a guest bedroom, which is furnished with a bunk-bed made of metal frame and superior quality mattresses, covered with natural linen.

The Neighbourhood:

The house is situated in the heart of Aldeburgh just one street from the sea front (25 yards). This picturesque Suffolk seaside town is particularly popular among music lovers, bird watchers, walkers and artists.

Aldeburgh and the surrounding area has inspired many authors and poets in the past but the most famous son of the town is Benjamin Britten who founded the Aldeburgh Music Festival which now has worldwide acclaim and is held every year in June at Snape Maltings.

Fishermen still pull their colourful boats up on the shingle beach and sell fresh fish from the picturesque huts. The wide, mainly Georgian high street has many attractive buildings whilst the seafront properties all have commanding views of the beach and the North Sea. Sailing is popular on the nearby Alde estuary where a large variety of yachts can be seen at summer weekends.

Aldeburgh’s high street hosts a number of good restaurants, pubs, antique shops, bookshops, bakers, butchers, fishmongers, and the best fish and chips shop in the country.

Getting Around:

Within easy reach of the A12 and serviced by local buses and trains, Aldeburgh is conveniently located for days out to all places of interest in the Suffolk Heritage Coastal area and to other major attractions of East Anglia.

Beautiful countryside and villages surround the town. Art and music festivals are held throughout the year. The Aldeburgh Tourist Office is the best source for information.

All the main services and attractions in Aldeburgh are only a short walk away. There are local buses from the High Street, including to Saxmundham railway station.

Thorpeness is a short drive away, and many people delight in walking there along the shingle beach, admiring Maggi Hambling's famous scallop sculpture on the way.

For an evening stroll or Sunday walk, Thorpeness Meare is just 15 mins walk away or Kings Field is just 10 mins walk away. From the town, you can take a bus or taxi for the short journey into Leiston, Snape or Saxmundham - for an evening at the cinema, theatre or a concert; or a train to the cinema in Woodbridge, or the Arts Centre in Halesworth.

Other Things to Note:

This beautiful period fisherman's cottage is compact in its size but full of charm and character. Please note that as with many cottages built in this era, the steps to the 1st floor are quite steep, care needs to be taken. Please check the photographs before booking.

Beautifully well presented snug cottage
This was a beautifully clean, organised and well presented, snug cottage on a quiet back road very close to the beach and to the High Street shops. We found parking outside even though it was a hot summer Saturday and the area was busy with visitors. The stairs are very steep so are either fun or a little bit of a trial depending on your age bracket! It does back onto a pub outside seating area which was busy with people enjoying drinks outside when we arrived. But the pub closes at 11pm and we were out for the evening of our overnight stay so it was no problem for us. Overall, a great stay in a really thoughtfully put together cottage . Lucy was great at communication. Full marks from us.

The perfect cosy cottage!!
We had a lovely break at Arwen Cottage - it was a shame we couldn’t stay longer as we settled in so quickly and relaxed - just what we needed!! It is such a cosy cottage, and perfectly located for a weekend of walks and shopping and café visiting!! The cottage had everything we could possibly need (and more!) and was so well equipped, and we wish we could have stayed longer! Thank you Tim and Lucy!

Wonderful cozy seaside escspe
Despite being a family with 2 young children, 7 and 4, we found Arwen Cottage to meet all our needs. As per the description, it is very small, yet cozy, but we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location couldn't be better, a minute from the high street, and a minute from the beach. We were a little worried about backing onto a busy pub garden, but need not have had any concern as all noise was pretty much finished by 10.30, and definitely didn't keep our children awake at night. We arrived during carnival day, which was a challenge to get to the cottage, but then we reaped the benefits of being able to join in the amazing evening lantern parade and fireworks. Lucy was very responsive to a couple of minor issues we brought to her attention, and we would definitely look to rent from her and Tim again.

Short stay in Aldburgh
Had a really great couple of days in Aldeburgh. Arwen cottage was nice. Clean , tidy and a good location. Just a couple of things and it would be even better . The lounge was a bit cramped feel smaller sofas may help and it was not easy to sit at the table. Although I realised the stairs were steep and winding from the photographs hadn't appreciated how steep they were ! Feel this should be emphasised more on the details for people who may find them difficult. Also a bath mat would be nice as not easy stepping out of the bath on to a tiled floor when wet. Thanks for a great stay though.

Wonderful Stay! Romantic Bolthole - Near the Sea!
Lucy and Tim are incredible hosts and welcomed us with open arms. We had a wonderful stay here and didn't want to leave. We had cake, bread and milk left for us which was very welcome. They ensured that our stay was comfortable and for everything to help us find lifts to and from the Snape concert hall. I highly recommend this accommodation to anyone wanting to relax or work! It is simply fantastic! Can't fault or think of anything to improve!

Perfect location for a family holiday
A charming small cottage for a small family. A great location to be in and amongst Aldeburgh town and close to the beach. I suggest you bring a hard copy of how to access the property, as the town does not have great mobile phone signal. The owners were easily contactable and helpful.

Lovely cottage in central location
I booked Arwen cottage for a 3 day break for myself and 2 friends. We found the cottage to be clean and cosy and ideally located for Aldeburgh high street and the beach. We had a wonderful stay and the old fisherman's cottage was equipped with everything we needed. We particularly enjoyed sitting outside in the courtyard with a glass of wine!

Lovely Cottage in fantastic location
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Arwen Cottage, its at a great location just set back from the beach and Main street. Providing many options for activities and meals. House was clean and had all necessary household accessories, it was like staying at our own place. Would definitely refer to friends and happily stay again.

Walking distance to the beach! We loved it!
Enjoyed a lovely weekend in Aldeburgh at Arwen cottage. The cottage is very close to the seafront (5 seconds walk) and within easy walking distance of all Aldeburgh has to offer. Stylishly decorated and perfectly set up for two adults and two children. It would be remiss of me to fail to mention the close proximity to the UK's best fish'n'chip shop. A perfect base for a weekend break. Highly recommended. It used to be a fisherman's cottage so it has plenty of character! Lucy was a perfect host and recommended some great local places to visit and eat at.

A stone's throw from the beach.Highly recommended!
What an amazing place! We felt at home from the moment we walked through the door. Arwen cottage is a delightful fisherman's cottage, well located, 5 seconds from the beach, and has everything you can think of taken care of. Such a great location for exploring Aldeburgh and beyond. And all the lovely little touches in the cottage - from the welcome pack to the beautiful furnishings and super comfy beds, we didn't want to leave. Lucy was incredibly helpful during the booking process and when we asked for any tips. We will definitely be back.

Fantastic location and beautiful cottage.
Beautiful cottage in a great location. Felt at home straight away with all the amenities and more that you could want. Fantastic location, a stone's throw from the beach. Everything provided was tasteful and of a high spec/standard. Would definitely recommend to others to stay. Lucy was easy to contact and made sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommended. Fab host.

Very quaint cottage
The cottage is a quaint cozy cottage close to the beach and all amenities. The cottage is small and not ideal for toddlers as it has a very steep staircase. Ideal for a couple. We had our 2year old granddaughter and the staircase was an issue. The cottage is equipment with all amenities. Parking is very limited. There is a pay and display car park 3 min walk and you can park on the high street for unlimited between 6pm & 9am. Alround it is a well looked after property and we would visit again only as a couple.

Hello,

We are Tim and Lucy and we live on the stunning Suffolk Heritage Coast with our son Jack. We have been successfully letting our cottages: Stable cottage, Arwen cottage (just a stone's throw from the beach) in Aldeburgh and Thimble cottage in Southwold via our companies Aldeburgh Seaside Cottages and Southwold Seaside Cottages. All our properties are self-catering and advertise on the Owners Direct website. We are thrilled to have met such interesting people and received such lovely feedback for it.

Tim was born and bred in beautiful Suffolk and I was born in Lima-Peru and brought up in Milan-Italy. I speak Spanish, Italian, French, German and English. As my husband’s family is from Suffolk we have strong ties with this beautiful part of the world. Having travelled extensively we have been inspired by the good things we have come across in properties we have stayed in. As you can tell, we are passionate about providing somewhere special that our guests will love, enjoy and return to.

We feel incredibly lucky to be able to live in this part of the world and are loving sharing our cottages with some amazing people from the Owners Direct community. If we had a motto to live by it would have to be Maya Angelou's: “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humour and some style...”
