Luxury House on Seafront, with Pool, Sauna, Jacuzzi and Woodlands

Seal Cottage is located in a most exclusive part of the Beara peninsula, Waterfall, Castletownbere, West Cork which has a long history. It overlooks a private beach and has spectacular sea views.

On the eastern side of Seal Cottage lies Waterfall House. It was the official residence of the Royal Naval commodore of the Western Approaches squadron, anchored in Berehaven. It was purchased a number of years back by the film director Neil Jordan who spends much of his free time there.

Beside Seal Cottage lies the Hermitage, built just after the Second World War. It was built on the site of a farmstead - Curryglass House, dating back to about 1800. Erskine Hamilton Childers, President of the Irish Republic and son of the IRA man Robert Erskine Childers, stayed in the house periodically with the owners his friends.


Seal Cottage accommodation comprises approx 3,500 sq.ft. briefly:
- entrance hallway
- large utility room with Miele washing machine, dryer, large freezer and storage for household goods. There is an entrance to garage off the utility room.
- Large double bedroom downstairs with walk-in wardrobe and large en-suite with shower, toilet, wash basin and Jacuzzi bath overlooking the lawn and sea. There are also patio doors opening on to a private patio area from the bedroom.

- fully equipped kitchen
- dining area overlooking the sea and Bere Island
- large conservatory with a range of tropical trees such as banana trees etc.
- upstairs there are two double bedrooms each with en-suite bathrooms
- there is also a very large 'spare' room upstairs which can be used as a visitor room, office, study etc
- there is zoned electric under floor heating in all downstairs areas.

There is a Bose surround sound system which also has the option of being switched on in the conservatory area.
- There is a solar heated swimming pool in the garden which is available for use from 01-Apr to end-Sep depending on weather and a traditional Scandinavian sauna in the woods.
- There is private access to the beach down steps at the eastern side of the site.
- There is a private mooring for a boat.
- the entire site is wooded with a natural walkway through it.
- There is also a stream flowing through part of the woodland which had been used to create a miniature lake.

Great accommodation

Beautiful, clean and spacious property with lovely views of the sea, a private beach, large garden etc. we didn’t use the pool or sauna but they were there. Would have preferred a bigger oven, it’s a microwave/ oven combo, but we managed alright. A lovely spot.

Brilliant location and setting

The house is in a central location on the spectacular Beara peninsula. Big rooms and great facilities and you can swim in the sea from the extensive garden. Our second visit!

Idyllic

We were a group of 8, aged from 50 to 93. The facilities and location were second to none, and we would have no hesitation in returning to this property. As regular renters, this property is up there with the very best. Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone visiting the Beara peninsula.

Paradise in Beara

We absolutely loved our week in Seal Cottage.It was everything we hoped and more!!!the pictures as great as they are, do not do it justice.Nestled in private woodlands with your own little beach and amazing views out to the sea and Bere Island. The grounds are immaculate as was the cleanliness of the property.We stayed in the master bedroom and the views from the room and the ensuite were a joy to wake up to.We were in the pool every single day of our week and its gorgeous. We stay at home in Ireland every year for our holidays and have been lucky enough to stay in some amazing properties over the last 15 years all along the West Coast but we all agreed this house is the best yet!!!!Check in and out was simple.Thomas was lovely to deal with and the house had everything you would need -lots of towels,blankets etc and lots of little kitchen basics too which is so handy.To wake up every morning and take a fresh cup of Nespresso coffee out to the patio and hear the sea,seals and peace was just an amazing experience!Can you tell we loved it!!!we hope to be lucky enough to stay in Seal Cottage again.

Perfect relaxing break

We have just returned from our break at seal cottage. What a beautiful place! Our stay was so relaxing and enjoyable. The house really is first class. We loved the sauna in the woods, it was easy to use and took around 30 mins to heat up. Having read previous reviews we bought wetsuits for the pool and we were glad we did as it was very cold, but perfect for what we were looking for. The house is situated on a rocky cove and we saw seals playing on the rocks in the evenings. The conservatory was perfect for relaxing and is quite unique with its selection of plants. The pictures don’t do this house justice, it is just beautiful.

Fabulous Cottage

Seal’s Cottage is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed in. The setting is unbelievably gorgeous and comfortable, tucked away in a beautiful part of the Beara peninsula. The amenities outside the Cottage are plentiful and human-size. The Cottage itself is designed with refined taste, and generously equipped with utilities that are extremely easy to operate. John has been a great host, responding quickly to our inquiries, and effectively referred us to a reliable agent for an extra specialized service that we required. Seal’s Cottage will always be among the few top candidate locations for my next vacation.

Stunning Cork

We had a wonderful week - super relaxing. The house was lovely and had a stunning outlook over the bay - where we saw seals basking on the rocks. It has everything you need - a great BBQ, super wood-fired sauna, great Wi-Fi, a “cinema room” for when the Wild Atlantic weather intervenes and within easy driving distance across some of the best scenery in Ireland to Kenmare, Killarney and other places. Castletown Bere is a few KMs away with very good supermarkets and some lovely restaurants (Breen’s was super, with great seafood chowder). Communication from the owner was very good, and we were welcomed at the house by the lovely Tomas who gave us lots of useful tips for our week. Highly recommend!!!

Seal Cottage is a fantastic house in a great location.

The property gives holiday makers the option of relaxing days at in the house with great views, swimming pool, sauna, outdoor grill, good kitchen within private surroundings or you can visit some of Irelands best tourist attractions all within an accessible comfortable drive.

Superb location, great garden and very spacious

Superb location, great garden and very spacious. Property is a little tired in places with an old fridge and gas hob. Lots of electrical appliances everywhere. Life is too short to figure what they all do! Very relaxing place with lovely views over the sea.

Fantastic stay

We had a wonderful stay at seal cottage!! John was a great host who responded promptly, and sent lots of useful info regarding the surrounding area before our arrival. Upon arrival we were greeted by Tomas who was so welcoming and helpful. He took us through the property and the surrounds, making sure we knew how everything worked, and ensured we were settled before leaving. He also made sure we knew he was just a text message away if we needed anything at all. The property itself is just as beautiful as the pictures, and was spotlessly clean. We found the utility stocked with so many things that helped us really make the most of our stay-there was a fishing Rod, wellington boots, hats for the sauna…all the little extras that you might not necessarily pack to take with you but really appreciate when you are there! Similarly the kitchen had all the everyday pantry items we needed, from dishwasher pods to an ample supply of coffee pods, and salt and pepper (we’ve stayed in holiday rentals before that didn’t provide any basics, not even cleaning products, so to have everything we might need already in the property was much appreciated!) We stayed over the Easter holidays and as Irish weather isn’t exactly tropical at this time of year we came prepared with our wetsuits! This meant we were still able to enjoy the pool every day, and have a few sea dips as well! The pool was fab, our kids really loved it, and was definitely the highlight of the stay for them. They also really enjoyed walks on the beach each day looking for crabs, and exploring the woods surrounding the house. There really was so much for them to do around the property that we didn’t head off sightseeing as much as we had planned. We did manage a few day trips and were so impressed by how much the Beara peninsula has to offer. Castletownbere is a really lovely seaside town with great food and very friendly people. We also took a boat trip to Garinish island which we would definitely recommend! We will definitely visit seal cottage again, we made so many happy memories there and can’t wait to our next visit!

Wonderful house with direct beach access

We really enjoyed our stay at Seal Cottage, it's located directly at a pebble beach in a very quiet location & it's wonderful to wake up to the view & tranquility. The sauna & pool were fabulous too, really unique to have this privately with a holiday home. The pool was cold but I assume during the summer months the solar heating works better. The woodlands made for a great adventure for the children, there is a little pond even & just great space to ramble. John & Tomas were friendly & had great tips, check in was easy & overall a very pleasant stay.

Family staycation

With the recent pandemic this year we explained to the kids that we wouldn't be travelling aboard this year, they were gutted to say the least as was mummy and daddy lol.. so after days of searching online I found this wee hidden gem! Tomas met us on arrival and was more than helpful..house was beautiful, clean, spacious, very homely and warm.. we felt comfortable straight away.. The pool was fantastic for the kids and the views... WOW!! Absolutely stunning... we absolutely loved our stay we really didnt wanna leave.. Thank you John and Tomas :) we hope to see use again next year.

Wonderful view, really nice home.

Really enjoyed our stay at Seal Cottage. The communication with the owner was great from the outset, Gave info about the house, local sights (the walk around Dursey Island after the quick trip in the cable car I can particularly recommend) and the opening time of local supermarkets. Evan gave some advice about where we can get some nice lunch on drive from Dublin. This is a wow house, nicely equipped inside with everything a large family or group could possibly need. The highlight for me was enjoying the garden and the lovely view of the sea out to Bere Island. After the day exploring the kids can watch a movie on Sky and the grown ups can sit outside and enjoy watching the sun go down. You can stroll down to the shoreline, and several times I sat on the rocks at bottom of the garden and watched a group of seals in the morning, along with lots of other wildlife too. Would happily stay again.

Perfect cottage in a wonderful location!

Seal Cottage was the perfect venue for our family get together. Nice and homely, easy to settle into, well equipped with all modern amenities. An all weather base with log fire for the cold wet days and swimming pool, barbecue and sauna for the warmer days. Set in a beautiful location with lovely views; Seal Cottage is the perfect place to explore the Beara Peninsula. Highly recommended!

Amazing cottage in a stunning location

We, 4 adults and 2 teenagers, stayed at the Seal cottage for one week at the end of May, but we could honestly have stayed forever. The property owner John was very accommodating and nothing was too much trouble. On our arrival we were met by Tomas who is a property manager and who explained to us everything to the smallest detail, even bought some essential food for us as we arrived late in the evening. The Seal cottage is set in the most beautiful location and is very well equipped with everything you would need and more. The master bedroom is located on the ground floor facing the sea and the view you wake up to every morning is to die for. The en- suite bathroom is very spacious and boasts beautiful views too. Upstairs there are 2 double bedrooms, both with en-suites and another very large bedroom that has two single beds. Downstairs there is a good size kitchen with a nice dining area, living room with all your mod cons and a really spacious utility room with washing machine and a dryer. We particularly loved the green conservatory with plants and trees growing straight out of the ground. We loved exploring the grounds and walked down to the private beach, we even tried fishing from a nearby pier.. We have managed to use the sauna few times and it only took about 40 minutes to start it up.. The only disappointment was that we were unable to use the swimming pool, though solar panel heated, due to lack of sunshine, it was too cold for us to enjoy, but would be fine for the braver ones :) We managed to organise a sea fishing trip, we were lucky to catch some mackerels and pollocks, which we then cooked on a barbecue kindly supplied by John. We experienced the old cable car over to the Dursey island and walked across the island, which was very scenic and calming. Catsletownbere is a small fishing harbour town, but very busy, with all the essential shops and a really big supermarket. We loved our time spent at the cottage and will definitely be returning.

Memories for a lifetime

Ankommen und wohlfühlen

Die Lage des Hauses ist super gut. Der große Garten, der wunderbare Blick aufs Wasser und das Haus selbst sind sehr einladend und bieten Alles was man für einen erholsamen Urlaub benötigt. Wir waren 1 Woche mit 6 Erwachsenen dort und wollten gar nicht mehr weg. Das Haus ist sehr sauber und bietet jede Menge Platz. Ein großes Lob an den freundlichen Hauskeeper Thomas. Er hat uns bei unserer Ankunft empfangen, alles erklärt und war stets erreichbar. Dieses Haus hat unsere Erwartungen übertroffen. Absolut empfehlenswert!!

A fantastic experience. The beach for the children was a homerun! They spent all day hunting for lipids, mussels & clams. The sauna was going was so refreshing after a dip in the pool and bay. A daily ritual. Seal cottage was lovely and most comfortable. Tomas and Margrite(sp) were very helpful. We were there for over 3 weeks and hated to leave! We will return. 5 stars!

What Great Experience

We stayed at the cottage for a week and loved the remote, country atmosphere. we were close to town and a few restaurants but based on the time of year a lot was closed. The cottage was amazing and comfortably fit all 8 of us. the owner and caretaker were/ are amazing and checked in regularly to assure we had what was needed and to provide local advice and adventures. We will be back!
