About this property

Idyllic country house, panoramic pool with sea views, quiet, WiFi, heating, 7 people

The 200 m² house has been restored recently and comfortable. It is set in an approximately 5 000 m² large land with meadows and pastures, about 330 m above sea level.

It is beautifully decorated and has a kitchen, dining room, living room, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a superstructure with double bed and two covered porches, one with spectacular views to Siracusa's entire environment and its coasts.
From here you can even see Mount Etna. You can enjoy fantastic sunrises and sunsets.

The accommodation is suitable for six people, extra bed available for a small surcharge.

Now there is a pool with magnificent views that invites to linger.

There is also a barbecue available for our guests.

In summer you need no air conditioning due to the high altitude and the thick walls. For the colder months the house is equipped with a heating system.

You can do a lot and relax at the same time.

Home away from home

I stayed in this wonderful home for 3 weeks. I have stayed in many villas over the years in various countries, and this is among the best. The house is a true home from home, exceptionally well equipped and comfortable. The communication beforehand was great and I was met by Enzo whom I followed up to the house. Yes, it's a narrow and very windy road but after the first couple of times was absolutely fine. The house is very secluded and private with spectacular views. Due to the altitude, there was always a very pleasant breeze which made lying by the pool bearable as there are no parasols (due to the windiness of the setting). Giorgio and Lucia (the owners) were at the house to greet me and gave me a very warm welcome. The welcome package was by far the best I've ever had - including wine, olive oil (made from the olives in the house grounds), eggs (from their own hens), fresh fruits and vegetables (from their own garden), water, coffee, bread. I had actually been to the supermarket in Avola to stock up before I went to the villa - and pretty much everything I had bought was provided, so my advice would be not to do that before you arrive! The house itself is spotlessly clean and superbly equipped - there was nothing I needed that wasn't provided. It is about a 15-20 minute drive to the nearest town (Cassibile) and about 25-30 minutes to Avola / Noto, so a car is most definitely required. I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed my stay here and I will definitely be back!

Perfect rural getaway

My family and I recently spent a week at this amazing property. Its in a beautiful rural landscape at the end of a narrow track off a windy road (nothing to be concerned about if you're used to driving in Europe). There are magnificent views from the front of the house and pool over the hills to Ortigia with sea and Mt Etna in the distance. At the back, you can see then high cliffs which descend down to natural river gorge. We spent hours sitting outside taking in the scenery, listening to the sounds of nature and watching birds of prey soaring overhead. Theres a lovely beach a 20min drive away, and Syracuse and Noto are about half an hour. Its only 15 mins from the entrance to the Cavagrande Canyon which is an incredible place to explore. The property has everying you could need and is very comfortable - we never felt we needed to switch on the air-con the whole time we were there. Oh and the fruit from the trees grown around the property is out of this world!

Amazing place, amazing people

The villa and views are even better than the pictures suggest. The owners are delightful people who want you to have a great holiday - they go the extra mile to make sure the villa and grounds have everything you might need. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!

A wonderful stay. Amazing location with clear views to the sea and Syracuse, which is only a 35min drive away. On a clear morning you can see Etna too. The local town of Cassibile is about 15 mins drive down the twisty road. Whilst not the most pretty the people are very welcoming, there is an excellent small super market, and numerous food stores. The cafes are superb, selling also incredibly good and cheap midday lunches. We recommend the ragu arancini. The house is superbly appointed. Excellent kitchen, and loads of space both inside and out. Air con in every room if it gets hot! The twisty road up is not a big deal if you are used to European roads, and has a high safety wall, so don't let that put you off. The owners are so welcoming and helpful. A very generous care package is left at your arrival, including olive oil from their own orchard. Quite excellent.

Stunning views and tranquility

The property was clean, well-equipped and even better than the photographs. Enzo, the house agent, met us and led us up to the villa. There was torrential rain the day we arrived so we were very glad he was there. The road is very windy in parts, but we soon got used to it, using the horn as needed. Georgio and Lucia were there to greet us, they were so kind and friendly, despite our very limited Italian. They gave us home grown fruit and vegetables and their own olive oil, and there were enough basics to start us off plus a welcome bottle of wine! Georgio was sometimes tending the land very early in the morning but was never intrusive at all, just giving a cheery wave and checking we were ok. We had a wonderful stay, relaxing in the pool, enjoying the views and the wildlife, and having evening BBQs. The weather was fabulous after the first day. There are lots of lovely places to visit within easy reach, we especially enjoyed a boat trip from Ortigia, Syracuse archeology park, Noto and Ragusa. We did a day trip to Agrigento to see the Valley of the Temples but it was close to a three hour drive each way so with hindsight probably a bit too far. It was our first trip to Sicily and we will definitely be back!

You wont be disappointed !

Superb property and superb hosts. Photos really don't do the property and pool justice. Most of all the view - A snow capped Etna is magnetic to see and look at. Some tips - not obligatory, but worth hiring a car with good ground clearance. We found Noto the best place to eat locally (30min drive) with a wide variety of nice restaurants to suit all tastes and pockets, a really nice place too. Don't miss the walks to Cava grande and especially Pantalica Necropolis. Taormina is a picture post card place, definately worth the trip together with Savoca. Needless to say Etna is a must, but be careful about the trip on offer at the cable car kiosk. Given the time again, I would have paid a little extra for a small group to go higher. The hosts - just really nice people. Enjoy !

A perfect stay in a beautiful house

Enzo was brilliant and met us off the motorway to lead us to the house. Georgia and his wife were so welcoming and friendly. They had provided food for us and even thought to provided equipment for our baby which was greatly appreciated. Our daughter loved Georgio!! They gave us loads of recommendations of places to visit. The villa itself was beautiful and the views were outstanding. We had a very relaxing week. We would love to visit again.

Bellissimo!! The perfect get away if you want peace and quiet and the pool with a view of Mont Etna!

We just had the best get away! We came here for our honeymoon and couldn’t have asked for more. We wanted to sit by the pool and do absolutely nothing… and that’s what we did. We loved every moment, be it by the pool, drinking Aperol watching the sunset or grilling fresh fish on the BBQ (all provided for). It was excellent. Enzo met us to drive to the property which was super helpful as it’s about 10/15mins from the main road. Georgio & his wife (the owners) were on site to greet us with fruit and veg from the farm. All of which tasted incredible. Georgio farms on the property but you don’t notice he’s there and it’s only for an hour a day, normally in the morning. They are so lovely and very welcoming. Overall it was excellent and I’d recommend to anyone. We were just two people but also great for families.

A holiday that exceeded our expectations.

The villa was outstanding much more spacious than expected. 3 dining areas in the villa and two outside. Everything you could think of was provided, I took with me pretty much everything bar the kitchen sink but didn't need any of it. The swimming pool was spectacular with great views over the surrounding areas with Mount Etna in the distance on a clear day. On arrival the villa manager Enzo met us off the autostrada to guide us to the villa which was very helpful, once there we arrived to a very warm welcome from Georgio and Lucia. They had provided us with lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and other grocery items to get the holiday started even a bottle of a red and white wine included which was very thoughtful. Enzo was always available if needed he would get any minor issue solved immediately. Georgio was sometime working in the distance during the day on the land we always welcomed him over, although speaking very little English and us speaking no Italian we managed to get by with a little help from Enzo on the phone If needed. Georgia took us to see the hares that they breed to introduce back into the wild, he showed us how they harvest the olives which our 5yr old grandson loved by beating the olives down with a long stick from the trees following this he took us to the top of the canyon with spectacular views. This made even a great holiday more spectacular. All in all it was a holiday thoroughly enjoyed by us all including our two young grandsons. If you like peace and quiet far from the maddening crowd we can certainly recommend this.

Villa Cava Natura

We spent a very memorable and relaxing week at this lovely villa. It’s stunning location and peaceful surroundings meant that we were never tempted to travel very far afield although a trip to the remains of the Greek amphitheatre in Syracuse and a trek to the bottom of the Cava Grande were both highlights of our stay. The villa is very comfortable and extremely well equipped and our hosts were so welcoming and friendly. Thank you for making our first trip to Sicily so successful - we would love to return to explore more of your beautiful island!

A true gem in the Sicilian countryside

We were two couples that stayed for a week in the property. It is perfect for two couples with separate rooms each with their own bathrooms. There is a large lounge area and kitchen and dining room also. We spent most of our time outside as there are numerous places to sit and enjoy the spectacular views. The infinity pool is amazing and the location is simply breathtaking. The property is situated a good 6km from a proper main road but this makes it so detached and peaceful it is just perfect. You will not hear a single thing other than the wildlife. The owners do not speak English, however the property manager Enzo speaks perfect English and was available on the phone at any point you need him. He met us and took us to the property without issue and sent us several restaurant suggestions which were amazing! There is a very friendly cat who was a delight to have around. When he isnt lounging by the pool he was sitting in the shade near to one of us. We had a lovely stay indeed and every review you read on here about this property is totally true. It is a true 5/5 experience and a perfect setting for any Sicilian holiday.

A fabulous villa in a glorious setting.

We have just returned from a fantastic holiday in the villa. Its location is utterly glorious with great views of Siracusa, the sea beyond and even Mount Etna on a clear day. The villa enjoys splendid isolation and is truly in an idyllic location. Some reviews have mentioned the road, but we really did not find any difficulty with it. Enzo met us and guided us to the villa. He could not have been nicer or more helpful throughout our stay and responded immediately to a couple of queries we had. We were met at the villa by Girogio and Lucia who were just lovely. Although we do not speak Italian and they don't speak English we managed to communicate. They had very kindly left huge bowls of fresh fruit and vegetables in the house along with ingredients for dinner and breakfast, so we did not need to think about shopping until the day after we arrived. They had thought of everything which might be needed for a self-catering holiday including shower gel! The villa was exceptionally well equipped and in fact I can think of nothing we needed which had not provided. Due to the thick walls the villa was cool, but fans were provided for the bedrooms. The villa was spotless clean and very comfortably furnished. Outside the villa had plenty of furniture and different places to sit to enjoy all the views afforded by the location of the house. The pool was just lovely and was very welcomed on a hot day. Girgio looks after the property and was always a pleasure to talk with, even if it involved a lot of gesturing and pointing. Gorgio and Lucia’s son is trying to reintroduce the Sicilian hare to the island and has an enclosure next to the villa for them and if we were lucky we would occasionally catch a glimpse of one. Gorgio also very kindly brought a baby hare for us to see which was very cute. In addition to the hares the villa comes with a cat (we called him Archimedes) who was very friendly and very purry. Food is provided for him buy Gorgio and Lucia, but we discovered he was rather partial to chicken! Other regular visitors included a hedgehog, a raven and some mountain goats. We even saw a couple of owls! We really had a great holiday in Sicily which was made all the better by our enjoyment of the villa, Enzo, Giorgio and Lucia ( Archimedes also helped !).

A lovely house, incredible views and kind hosts.

This lovely villa, overlooking the Siracusa plains, makes a wonderful base to explore south eastern Sicily. The house is charming and well-equipped, in a beautiful rural location, and the pool a very welcome feature. Swimming with a view of Etna, the sparkling Ionian and Syracusa is a truly memorable experience. Giorgio and Lucia, the kind and generous owners, are helpful but unobtrusive, and are perfect hosts. The road up to the villa is narrow and winding, but the villa’s location is well worth it. There is much to see and do in the surrounding area, with Syracusa, Noto and the Cavagrande being very close at hand. We had a very enjoyable stay and would love to return.

“Lovely Hideaway”

If you like privacy & seclusion, away from everything, with a fabulous hilltop view of Siracuse & fabulous sunsets then look no more! The drive to this very comfortable house is a very “twisty challenge”, but once you get up there, peace & tranquility abound, with a gorgeous pool for relaxation. Enzo, the real estate agent will meet you at the motorway exit & guide you up the winding hill to the property - just as well! On arrival we were also met by Giorgio & Lucia, the owners, who couldn’t have been more generous & keen to ensure we had everything we needed. We were given fresh vegetables & fruit, & some wine which gave us the makings of a lovely meal on arrival. The house is well equipped with everything you might need for a very comfortable stay, albeit somewhat rustic, but very charming. The property is well located for trips out to Siracuse, Noto, Modica & Ragusa. We were a group of 4 adults, and we really enjoyed our 8 night stay.

A complete rest for body and soul

We had a truly blessed week here, in the magnificent hills overlooking the wonderful ancient city of Syracusa. Our family of 4 (with two teenage daughters) were able to truly rest and rehabilitate our weary London bodies at this superbly tranquil home, and the hospitality of the owner Giorgio and his wife was truly heartwarming. The house itself was spacious and excellently appointed for every conceivable self-catering need, and in the searing gorgeous heat the thick stone walls kept the interior amazingly cool throughout our stay. A perfect pool, of good size, offered welcome relief from the temperature, and we loved the many options of outdoor spaces and chairs to either soak up the sun, or rest in the shade. The absolute peace and quiet here has to be experienced! Just the sound of nature, which was so health-giving to all of us. Day trips to the exquisite Ortigia and the charming baroque village of Noto, coupled with the golden sands of Fontane Bianche, made this the perfect Sicilian week. Groceries were only any easy 20 minute drive toward Avola, and the coast just 15 minutes away. A car is essential of course, and the winding roads are a lot of fun to drive! A highly recommended holiday home!!!

A perfect retreat!

We loved everything about this villa! Enzo, the agent, was kind enough to meet us by the motorway exit and guide us up into the hillside (around 10-15 minutes drive), where we were welcomed by Giorgio and Lucia. Enzo has excellent English, so was invaluable in showing us around and explaining all we would need to know for our stay. Our hosts had provided some wonderful fruit, vegetables and nuts (fresh from the garden), along with local wine, bread and almond cookies, and these were much appreciated after our long drive! Giorgio also returned with more fruit and nuts throughout our stay, when he visited to carry our maintenance on the grounds. The villa itself is impeccable - beautifully renovated with just about everything you might need during your stay. There is no air-conditioning, but being high above sea level there is a good breeze, and the thick stone walls and high ceilings keep the interior at a pleasant temperature. The mezzanine bedroom was the one area which did get hot and stuffy - Enzo did offer to bring ventilators but we decided that they weren’t really needed - it was good to know that the option was available though. The beds were comfortable, and there was plenty of seating. The absolute best part of the villa though (as far as we were concerned) is the beautiful new infinity pool... we spent hours enjoying the cool water and the amazing views across the countryside to Ortigia, and even to Etna on a clear day. Although we ate out on a few occasions we did self-cater for much of the trip, and found good supermarkets in Avola and Syracuse. There are some lovely beaches in the area, and Ortigia is a beautiful area to visit... try and fit in a boat trip if you have the time. In summary, the villa, the area, and especially the hosts were fabulous... Giorgio and Lucia were so welcoming (but I wish my Italian skills had been up to a proper conversation!) and Enzo provided some excellent information, and kindly helped us out when we had an issue with a broken payment machine at a car park - something we would really have struggled with on our own. Thank you so much for making our holiday so relaxing - we hope to visit again one day!

Such a peaceful and relaxing vacation!

What a beautiful place! Giorgio and Lucia met us at the exit of the highway to show us the way to the house. Such lovely, welcoming and warm people! We arrived on a Sunday and they had provided fresh vegetables, pasta, bread and a bottle of wine, so that we did not have to take care of food shopping until the next day. Giorgio takes care of the grounds and the pool, but does this so early in the morning and so discretely, you would never know he had been around. However, if you're interested, he'll tell you everything you want to know about the nature and wildlife in the area! The drive up to the house was about 15 minutes and when we arrived we saw it was exactly what we had been looking for. The house is even better than the pictures (!) in a green oasis with a beautiful view over the area and in the distance Ortigia (Siracusa) on one hand and, on a clear day, the Etna on the other hand. Inside, the house is cool and very comfortable, equipped with anything we could think of to make our stay more pleasant. The infinity pool is so very inviting that it was hard to decide whether to stay home and enjoy the pool with a good book or go and discover all the beautiful villages and sights in the area. But do make sure you go out, because there is so much to explore (the baroque cities of Siracusa, Noto, Modica, Ragussa, the fisherman's village ofMarzamemi, a hike to the Cavagrande Canyon, not to mention the pristine beaches..) I hope we will have a chance to go back one day and can absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing vacation! Grazie tante Lucia e Giorgio e se mai vendete il vostro oglio di oliva fattemi sappere!

A stunning beautiful retreat in the mountains of Sicily

From the moment we arrived it was clear that this was a special place. Our welcome was so warm. Nothing was too much trouble for Enzo, the agent (who speaks perfect English) or Giorgio, who manages the estate. They were perfect hosts. Even the cat was delightful! Everything was taken care of. I have stayed in many villas over the years, but in terms of equipment and attention to detail and comfort this was the best. We lacked nothing, and our one issue- a minor one- was instantly addressed. If you want to get away from it all, this is the place. It is really quiet, relaxing, peaceful. The location is excellent for visiting some of the beautiful towns- Noto, Syracuse, Ragusa Scicli etc. There are beaches nearby, and all the amenities you could want within a short distance. The only word of caution: the drive to the villa (you will need a car) is not for the faint-hearted. We came to love it, but there was a certain sense of relief when we negotiated the multiple hairpins safely for the final time. If in doubt sit on the horn. The locals do. It works! Ciao Giorgio and Lucia. Thank you for everything, especially the medlars. And thank you Enzo. I hope we will be back!

Breathtaking

From the moment we met the delightfully enthusiastic Enzo (letting agent), who came to meet us not only on Easter Monday holiday, but on his birthday, we knew we would love our stay at Villa della Cava. If you are looking for beauty and tranquility, yet quick and easy access to amenities and attractions, Villa della Cava is ideal. Enzo guided us on the steep, curling drive through limestone rock faces, up onto fields of green farmland, giant wild fennels and golden marguerite daisies. The location of Villa della Cava is magnificent. On arrival at the house we were warmly welcomed by our hosts, Lucia and Giorgio, who showed us the lemon and mandarin grove, the home of the Italian hares they conserve, and the splendid new swimming pool with views over Mount Etna - this will be such a bonus in the hot Sicilian summer. Inside the house we were greeted by carefully selected arrangements of homegrown lemons, mandarins and orange blossom; tomatoes, aubergines, red peppers and fennel. Lucia and Giorgio provided us with more than enough food for our evening meal and breakfast, as well as a bottle of wine and almond cakes from Al Bianco Bar pasticceria in Cassibile. The kitchen is wonderful. It is equipped with everything a cook could need! The whole house is immaculately clean, well-equipped and homely. The entire property is superbly maintained and cared for with love. We visited in early April to experience a Sicilian spring. We were entranced. Villa della Cava is a wildlife haven. Behind the house are views over a canyon. Birdsong echoes all day long. Explore the surrounding fields and you will discover a myriad of wild flowers. The array of orchids is breathtaking. Our children (4 and 8) delighted in the freedom to explore. On a practical note, the village of Cassibile is a 15 minute drive down the hill and provides everything you need, including a bakery, fishmonger, butcher, fruit and vegetables, small supermarkets, tratorrie. There are bigger supermarkets down the road in Avola should you need them. We enjoyed the beautiful beach Pineta del Gelsomineto which has safe bathing for children. Villa della Casa is also well-located for trips out to Noto, Ortigia and Mount Etna. Villa della Cava surpassed our expectations. Lucia and Giorgio are discreet and generous hosts. We thank them for their kindness. Mille, mille grazie.

Villa cava is one of a kind

The villa is spatious and clean. The surroundings with a view on the Etna is superb. A perfect place to stay or to visit Syracuse, Noto, Ragusa and Villa Romana. Thank you Giorgio, Lucia and Enzo for your hospitality!
