About this property

The Cabin at Whisper Valley Ranch

160 acres of caves, creeks, and hiking trails hidden in the Central Coast of San Luis Obispo County.

Welcome to Whisper Valley Ranch! Venture into the countryside and relax on the front porch or around the fire with a glass of wine. The cabin boasts exposed wood beam ceilings and hard carved wood details throughout. Melt into the comfortable beds and fall asleep to the sounds of crickets chirping and owls hooting.

Our property is 15 minutes outside of a town called Santa Margarita, which is located in San Luis Obispo County. Santa Margarita has a very small town, rustic vibe with its mere 1,500 population, which includes gourmet food, beer, wine, antiques, and more! Wake up and go enjoy a day of zip lining with Santa Margarita Adventures, or go kayaking around Santa Margarita Lake with the family. Our local beaches include Avila Beach, Morro Bay, Pismo Beach and more. Paso Robles is a short drive north with all the wine tasting one could imagine, over 200 wineries! San Luis Obispo County is filled with hidden adventures every which way you look.

The Cabin itself is two bedrooms, the master bedroom and the second bedroom. The master bedroom has a king size bed with handcrafted french doors that open up to the breathtaking views. The master bedroom features a wet bathroom with an accessible shower. This bathroom also includes a free standing bathtub, and the coolest part yet, is the double vanity sink is made from a tree off of our property.

The second bedroom has a queen size bed that attaches to the guest bathroom. Upstairs is a loft with a twin size bed that overlooks this queen second bedroom.

Tap into your inner child climbing into the second loft area, above part of the living room, via the beautifully designed black iron loft ladder featuring wooden rungs take from wood off of the property. In this loft sitting area we have seating and a futon that pulls down into a full sized bed for extra guests.

Our kitchen features all full size appliances, along with all of the amenities you might need during your stay. We also have a google home hub located in the kitchen which will help you locate certain lights, music, and our nest thermostat to manage central AC and heat. This home also has a washer and dryer available to our guests.

Our bunk house is next door to The Cabin. It features three twin beds in the main room, and a queen bed in the separate bedroom, along with a second full sized futon. This bunk house offers a full bathroom, a kitchenette, and a large closet.

Our covered front porch is a great place to unwind, or just watch as the sun fades to stars. We have a bocce ball court, some other really fun yard games, and a cowboy cauldron (seasonal restrictions) for you to enjoy a great campfire with the whole family. The yard overlooks a seasonal creek, with horse shoe pits, a hammock, and a tree swing. Beyond the yard is 160 acres of the most beautiful hiking trails with gorgeous views. The rock formations, caves, and landscape really speak for themselves. It’s what made us fall in love with this property. The largest rocks eroded by water millions of years ago will have you hiking and searching for days for new finds. This property allows you to unplug while you are outdoors with nature, it only gets cell service in a few spots along the trails, which is why we have provided walkie talkies for our guests out exploring. We have great WiFi at the cabins. We would love for our guests to appreciate this property as much as we do and please leave it untouched and untarnished. This is something we would love to share for years to come. The history surrounding us is truly something special.

Bringing smaller children to The Cabin? We have you covered with essentials such as a baby bath, play pen, high chair, stroller ect. We want you to be as comfortable as possible, but we must also remind you that your small children must be watched at all times. As beautiful as our natural landscape may be, it can be very hazardous to unattended children.

Guest access
When booking Whisper Valley Ranch, you will have access to explore all 160 acres! We just ask our guests to please stay in the fenced line and no motorized vehicles or mountain bikes are allowed on the trails. There is no direct lake access from our property. Our guest book has directions if you're interested. So get out and enjoy this little slice of paradise!

Other things to note
We would like to remind our guests, that as much as we have modernized our home, we are still, out in the beautiful wilderness. Along with that comes the large and small animals that live here, whether we like them or not. You are in the great outdoors and may encounter bears, snakes, bats, insects, and other critters. If our doors or windows (without screens) are left open these critters and many bugs tend to find their way in. We recommend only opening up the screened windows and ensuring doors are not left open. Please help us maintain a safe and happy environment for all by keeping doors and open windows closed at all time and not giving an open invite to our outdoor friends. Also, no matter how rigorously we clean (and we take cleaning very seriously) there may be some dead flies, gnats, or a small cobweb that was created in the short time from our cleaning to your check in..again this is just a fact of life on an 160 acre ranch in the middle of nowhere. Our guest book has more information on this.

As mentioned earlier, our property is very limited on cell service. There is a WiFi calling setting in your phone that if it is turned on it should restore your phone's capabilities to be able to call and text once connected to our WiFi network. Some carriers take extra steps to enable WiFi calling so we recommend you do this step at home prior to coming to our property.

Check in time is 4pm. Check out time is promptly 10am. We try to be relaxed about this when we can, but if we are working on a same day check in and check out we require that amount of time to make our cabins as clean as we possibly can, especially during our current times. If there are no guests before you we can usually offer an earlier check in. And if there are no guests directly behind you we will gladly offer a later check out.

By completing a reservation with Whisper Valley Ranch, guests agree to terms and conditions of house rules and additional rules displayed in the "house rules" section of this listing. Guests acknowledge that they have read and agree to these terms during the reservation process "Review House Rules- Read More" screen and choose the "agree and continue" button.

*** We are currently in the middle of fire season (goes from about May until the second rainfall in the fall). Our Cowboy Cauldron (metal BBQ/fire pit in the front yard) is only permitted to be used with CHARCOAL during fire season. You may make a charcoal BBQ to cook or a charcoal warming fire to sit around and roast s'mores. We do not supply charcoal, so please plan to bring that with you. Wood is only permitted during the winter months as the brush directly around our property is very receptive and easy to burn if just one small ember were to hit it. There will be NO open flames allowed anywhere else on the property ***

***Our houses do not feature window coverings and have many windows letting the natural light to flood into the house. If you are sensitive to light when sleeping, we have provided complimentary eye masks to help.

*** We do not have an indoor dining table, however we have two bars with bar stools made of beautiful local wood to eat at. There is a gorgeous farm style family table (seats 12) set up outdoors to gather around. As well we have a picnic bench out front that seats 6-8 comfortably.

Dreamy cabin in the woods

If you’re looking for the most dreamy cabin in the woods experience filled with hiking, deer spotting, painting pinecones (we left them up front), bocce ball, ring game, wild turkey calling (we found him), star gazing, this is it. We brought tons of bug spray and needed zero on our March spring break. The days were wonderfully long and without electronics. Our kids ages 4-9 just unplugged and had so much fun. Locally we hit up Ancient Peaks wine tasting and enjoyed some patio time during one single putting but mainly played games and had long cookouts on the cowboy caldron. Check out more of a review after you book on the guest book when you visit under Malone/Acosta family. When you arrive you’ll GASP and when you leave you’ll feel sad you didn’t book a longer stay. We felt so wonderfully blessed to have found this listing. This is just 10/10 so just book it!

Just what you need!

We booked the Whisper Valley Ranch for a girlfriend's surprise 40th cowgirl camp weekend, and it could not have been more perfect! Not a detail was missed with the cabin, bunk house, or the outside entertaining area. We enjoyed hiking around the property and exploring the surrounding area with lunch in Santa Margarita. Kelli was a gem to work with in planning our weekend and all the things we would need or not need for our stay at the cabin. 10/10 recommend a stay! We will be back.

Amazing Property

We had 4 teenagers and 6 adults stay for 3 nights and had an absolute blast. We were able to have huge family dinners nightly and were so comfortable. We hiked the trails in the morning and it was really not as far out as expected. Definitely remote but an easy trip. Would absolutely recommend!

Perfect!

We came to this home to celebrate my child's Cal Poly graduation. I was concerned about the distance from San Luis Obispo, but based on a pervious review I took a chance and I'm so happy I did. It was very easy to get back and forth from campus and downtown SLO. My family couldn't stop raving about the property. It was clean, well appointed, comfortable, and had many great activities (bocce ball, horse shoes, hook and ring toss game, etc.). We enjoyed the beautiful porch for morning coffee and afternoon cocktails. The beds were very comfortable and we loved all the different room options for our group of 10. My one regret is that we didn't have enough time to explore and enjoy this beautiful property so hopefully we'll be able to come again. Thank you, thank you for sharing with us.

Family weekend

This house was so beautiful and clean. It’s a bit out of the way but so worth it. We stayed here with family for our daughter’s Cal Poly graduation- it’s about a 1/2 hour drive to campus. Would love to return to relax and enjoy the house and property more another time when it’s not such a busy weekend. Property managers were very quick to respond to questions. And they’ve thought of so many fun/ games/ conveniences to make the stay more comfortable and enjoyable.

Secluded Getaway

Lovely property in a beautiful setting that has everything needed for a vacation. Lots to do around the area. Property managers are very responsive to questions and ideas for activities. We did zip-lining, kayaking, horse riding and wine-tasting and more. We used this for a week's family vacation before moving our youngest into Cal Poly, which is only 30 minutes from the ranch.

A magical weekend

I can’t say enough about Whisper Valley Ranch The property is gorgeous and picturesque from every angle. We had great fun exploring the private trails and had endless amounts of bocci ball tournaments, although the best thing may have been sitting on the front porch with my coffee listening to the symphony of birds...and in the evenings when the birds are quiet you will know why it is named Whisper Valley. The cabin was the perfect layout of my family of 5. The style and attention to detail is beyond compare. The cabin is somehow warm and cozy while simultaneously large and spacious We did not use the bunkhouse. The cabin was well stocked and every detail was thought through. The welcome basket was was above and beyond. The information binder was fun to read through. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a cleaner rental...seriously it looks as if you are the first guest to ever stay here. I will reiterate that the ladder up to the loft is steep so be cautious with little ones. Our stay was nothing short of magical and we look forward to returning.

Impressive Property. Excellent Experience

A group of 9 Cal Poly Alumni stayed at the Cabin and we could not have been happier. There are a couple things about the house that we had to work around such as: 1) No inside dining room. 2) No food pantry. 3) remote location. 4) Relatively small living room. However, we knew all of that going in from the very accurate listing and communication with the property management team. The grounds are amazing and very well maintained. We saw tons of wild life (turkeys, a fox, owls, birds, etc.). All of the appliances and finishes of the house are top of the line and very well done. The large size and location of the property provide unlimited privacy, but also the convivence of being just 15 minutes out of town (Santa Margarita) Overall...it is exactly what we were looking for and our group was very impressed with all aspects of the property. We would definitely stay again.

2nd Trip - Work Retreat

We have used this property for work retreat on two different occasions. All of the unique spaces provide plenty of opportunity for groups to enjoy each other, but also places to find some solitude. The hiking trails are easily accessible, and just challenging enough to get the heart rate up good. The outdoor games always brings out the competitive spirit and lots of laughter.

Amazing Getaway!

We had a great time with our kids and this wonderful property in the woods. We enjoyed all our meals on the huge outdoor dining table under the trees, enjoyed our morning coffee and evening tea on the comfortable chairs on the front porch. Our group had children ranging from 2 to 10, who couldn't get enough exploring the property and going on mini adventures. There are also small hikes connected to the property that we were able to do with the kids as well once it cooled down in the evening. The hosts were in contact often, we had no issues with anything at the property and will definitely return again!
