A PAMPERED vacation in the Castro. It's a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom suite in a 1890's San Francisco Victorian. Fantastic!!

The apartment is perfectly located, especially if you want to explore the vibrant Castro, and for further exploring there are buses stopping right outside and it’s close to the metro and streetcar! The apartment is very comfortable, the beds are nice there is space to chill out and watch tv. Andy is the perfect host. He knows so much about the area and can answer any questions. He picked us up from the airport and dropped us back. He gave us a tour of the local area and an insight into the history, it meant we connected with the city straight away and was a wonderful introduction. I will stay here again for sure next time I visit San Francisco.

Great apartment in an elegant neighbourhood

Andrew is the perfect host - picked us up at the airport after a long flight and gave us an entertaining tour of the neighbourhood. The apartment is perfectly situated on an elegant SF sloping street- just like in the movies. Really good experience in all respects.

Wonderful

We really liked this nice and clean accomodation in a friendly neightbourhood. Public transport is nearby. Andy is a wonderful host! When we arrived he gave us a small tour around the neighbourhood and also drove us to the pier for our Alcatraz visit. He even did our laundry. Thanks Andy for this wonderfull stay!

A Castro experience

The accommodation was compact but met our needs. The Castro district is the gay capital of the world which we hadn't realised when we booked but was not a problem and provided some interesting moments. The location is close to central San Francisco which suited our needs perfectly. Andy was a very helpful host and added to the enjoyment of the stay. Overall we would consider staying here again if we return to San Francisco.

Excellent location and host

My friend and I were looking for a reasonably priced place to stay near The Castro on our recent trip to San Francisco and this home suited our budget and needs well. The Castro is about 10 minutes walk down hill the apartment, which is fine but bear in mind after a couple of sherries, the walk back up might be a little harder! :) The basement apartment is below the hosts home and has all the amenities you would want - please note though, the only way to cook food is by microwave. Not having a cooker was not a problem for us as we intended to eat out each day. There is also a fridge, kettle and coffee maker which we used to sort out our breakfast needs (basic provisions can be bought from the local 24 hour pharmacy). The apartment, although small, had a seating area, dining area, two bedrooms with extremely comfortable beds and a well appointed bathroom with bath and over shower. Perhaps a little dated, but absolutely fits the overall charm of the building. What made our stay so great is Andy, the owner. He picked us up from the airport (despite being over 5 hours late), showed us around the neighbourhood pointing out local landmarks on our way back to the house and then explained everything in the apartment in detail. He made it clear from the off that should we need any kind of support during our stay, he would be be available. Andy even offered to take us to the airport so that we could continue our onward journey to Las Vegas which we kindly took him up on. Andy is a friendly, funny and knowledgeable host who has lived in SF for over 40 years so definitely tap into his local knowledge! The only downside to spending time at this house was the expectation of cleaning costs. When I leave a room, holiday let, etc. I always clear up, strip the beds, etc. but in the paperwork it was suggested that we should leave a $80 contribution to the cleaning costs. For some less conscientious visitors, I think this might be reasonable but given we only really slept in the apartment and cleaned up before our departure, we felt it was perhaps too steep. We did leave a tip, not to insult but no where near that figure. If/when I find myself back in San Francisco, I would absolutely return and would definitely recommend this property to others.

Perfect accommodation and perfect host

What can I say that hasn't already been said? The property is exactly as described. The location is brilliant, convenient for getting around San Francisco on public transport and walking distance to many bars, restaurants and shops. The apartment itself has everything you might need for a visit to the city. As others have mentioned here in the reviews, Andy is a perfect host. He picked us up from the airport after an 11 hour flight which was very welcome, and gave us a lift back at the end of our stay. He is around when needed, but certainly does not encroach on your stay. Andy is a man who obviously knows a lot about his city and is passionate about it. Andy - Thank you so much for your kindness,hospitality and jokes - we hope you enjoyed your road trip! Small, quirky place on top of a hill with great location and transport links

3 of us stayed for 4 nights in October. We had driven in from Yosemite that morning and Andy, our host, kindly picked us up from the hire car return place. The place is small and somewhat quirky; but had everything we needed for our stay. The only water source is in the bathroom; so some co-ordination is required around showers, tea making, toilet requirements and washing up. Andy is a great host, personally ensuring we settled in well and had everything we needed. The house is on the top of a hill; but only 10 mins walk to Castro, 15 mins to Noe Valley and 25-30mins to Mission. Hence it is in a great position for all the bars and restaurants of these areas. There is a bus that runs outside the house and the Underground light rail at Castro is only 10 mins walk away. From there it takes only 15 mins to get downtown, so the place has great transport links. We took advantage of Andy’s offer to us a ride to the Airport on our departure to round off a great few days in San Francisco. Thoroughly recommended.

A lovely place to stay

Andy was very friendly and helpful, and made us feel very welcome. He took us on a little sight-seeing tour as soon as we arrived and gave us lots of information and tips about the area. His flat is exactly as described - large, comfy bed; spotlessly clean; and easy to get to via public transport. We would definitely recommend staying there and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if we go back to San Francisco.

Great Spot in the Castro

Wonderful place to experience life as a local

Our stay at Andrew’s place

We had a great visit and our host was a major part of our wonderful time. For starters, he picked us up and dropped us off at the airport. When wife suddenly became ill, he was right there to deliver us to the emergency room and bring us and very convent to all the special attractions the neighborhood and city have to offer.
