A little history:
The Golden Triangle is located right in the heart of Bordeaux. It is bounded by the Allées de Tourny, the Cours de l'Intendance and the Cours Georges Clemenceau. It forms a perfect triangle, with a major Bordeaux landmark at each vertex: Place Tourny, the Opéra National de Bordeaux and Place Gambetta. It also has the Place des Grands-Hommes at its center.
This district was created in 1790 by the architect Chalifour. The area was occupied almost exclusively by convents before the Revolution, and is still home to the church of Notre-Dame, formerly the church of Saint-Dominique, built in 1634. Over the decades, the area was gradually transformed into the luxury district we know today.
Bordeaux's golden triangle is historically the city's most beautiful and wealthiest district. It is home to a large number of private mansions, luxury shops and boutiques, and numerous jewelers and goldsmiths. That's why it's now known as the Golden Triangle.
