This house is all that its very friendly and helpful owner, Kristín, promises—and more! We (four adults and four kids) stayed there for a week in late October, and we couldn’t have had a better time. The house is a lot more spacious than it looks from the outside; the through-the-floor heating keeps it nice and warm; the many large windows are well insulated; the kitchen and bathrooms are state-of-the-art; and enough extra mattresses, comforters, pillows, and sheets are available to adjust sleeping arrangements as needed. There are plenty of guidebooks and other books, magazines, games, and toys to keep everyone happy during a long fall (or winter) evening, and the terrace, which wraps around the house, is ideal for the summer. Kristín gave us helpful travel tips and spot-on driving directions prior to our arrival, and as soon as we got there, she offered even more advice. The house is beautifully and very conveniently located. An Olympic-size geothermal pool is just down the road, and the major sights of southwestern Iceland (Þingvellir and Lake Þingvallavatn, Laugarvatn, Geysir, Gullfoss, Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, the Mýrdalsjökull and Sólheimajökull glaciers, the black beach of Vík í Mýrdal) are all just a couple of hours’ drive away. You can be in downtown Reykjavík in forty-five minutes. Hveragerði itself is quite lovely and has everything we needed—a Bónus supermarket, a bakery, a gas station, a Vínbúð. A larger supermarket is one town over, in Selfoss. We couldn’t recommend this vacation rental more!
