About this property

A Beautiful Escape from the City. Explore Nature and Enjoy the Lake!

This property is ideal for family and friends to retreat and spend time together in the beauty and quietness of the Texas hill country by Lake Aquilla.
The ranch is nestled between the towns of Whitney and Hillsboro on Lake Aquilla, just 60 miles from the Dallas / Fort Worth Metroplex. There is about a mile of dirt roads on the property to explore and view the natural beauty of the woods and observe the wildlife.
The custom cabin design is an open plan and includes an outdoor porch with ceiling fans and a spacious screened deck that overlooks the forest with glimpses of the lake ( best views of the lake are Fall and Winter). It's a peaceful place to sit out and star gaze and observe the night sky.
The property is adjacent to the Corp of engineers and allows for easy access to the lake.

The location is attractive, as it is away from city life, it's that getaway destination most city folk crave. WiFi, is available to keep you connected, you can work from this location. The lower level contains a spacious great room with plenty of outdoor views. We have board games, outdoor games, a ping-pong table, located on the porch. The first-floor bedroom sleeps 2 with a queen-sized bed and is next to the first-floor bathroom. The views from the living space are amazing, you get a panoramic view of the forest and glimpses of the lake, mostly during the Fall and Winter months. The porch has large chairs to lounge and an outdoor table. We have a two-person hammock for that relaxing moment, perfect for night sky views. Lakeview was designed to invite the outdoors inside and our guests outside.

Both bedrooms on the second floor are spacious. One bedroom has a king-sized bed and daybed/trundle. The other has a queen-size bed with daybeds/trundle in bedroom and is next to the bathroom. Both rooms have access to the outdoor screened balcony. The bathroom upstairs is designed to accommodate multiple users with its Jack and Jill layout allowing separate and private use of the tub, lavatory, and "the loo".

The balcony faces west to Lake Aquilla allowing spectacular views of the setting sun, a perfect place to listen to the wildlife at night. The fuzzball table is located on the screened balcony so it's also a great gathering place.

We 0ften get asked if there is a fire pit, the answer is YES. Call it a Texas sized fire-pit if you will. It's the best place for storytelling and marshmallow fixin space.

Also asked if the studio/ house next to the cabin is for other renters. No, the studio is an added 4th bedroom space when additional space is needed. If you have a large group or have someone that would prefer their own space, I think it would be a great addition. All hygiene needs will be done in the main house as the studio doesn't have running water.

Lots of opportunities for enjoying nature and native wildlife. You will see animal tracks and an occasional arrowhead. You might hear cattle mooing at a distance, they belong to the neighbors and make for a wonderful photo prop.

There is a canoe and kayak including life jackets for your use during your Lakeview adventures.

The lake has opportunities for boating, fishing, and for hiking.

There is also a meditation garden next to Lakeview for those quiet moments.

Come sit under the trees and listen to nature's music or the quiet whispers of your soul at rest.

Peaceful, private and comfortable
In town for a family funeral and booked at last minute. This was divine intervention, for Lakeview Cabin was exactly what we needed as a place for rest, reflection and to renew. Owners are fantastic hosts and we needed nothing in unusual supplies. Highly recommend as family getaway with plenty of activities. Blue skies!

Great stay but lake access was to tricky
Katherine was awesome to work with and the bedrooms were lovely. It was a touch smaller then I had imagined from the pictures. We brought the right games and they kept everyone busy which saved us that were at the house on Sunday. Half went on a fishing trip I missed the water though. Will probably stay at a waterfront house next year

Perfect fit for family gathering.
Home was well stocked and had everything needed to prepare meals and be comfortable. The foosball and ping pong table were a hit. Woods are teeming with life and the lake is perfect. We used the canoe and kayaks provided and our whole family really enjoyed the stay and felt at home. It is a short walk from the house to the water so getting the boats there is a bit of a challenge. Me and my teenage sons carried them down no problem and they had wheels to strap to them for easy transport. Just something to be aware of. Big fire ring was perfect and our kids had frog catching contests each night. Catherine and her husband were a delight and I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful Property
We were looking for a break from the city and the property was perfect for my family. We absolutely love the lake and the availability of two kayaks and a canoe to use. Our kids had a great time playing in the woods and playing with the hammock. We especially appreciated the upstairs patio where we spent most of our time. Catherine, our host, was super considerate and responsive. Even though there are only two bathrooms the upstairs bathroom has a separate area for the toilet and a separate area for the tub so it felt like much more than two bathrooms. I'd recommend this property for anyone looking to get away. Beautiful place.

Great place to watch the eclipse
The house is very secluded, in the woods a short down a steep path to the lake. The downstairs was open and a nice large space for everyone to interact. We cooked all our meals in the kitchen and enjoyed the fire pit outside in the evenings. We did find the kitchen limited in equipment for the kind of meals we were cooking for 6 people, so if you want to do more than grill we recommend bringing your own equipment. Notable things lacking were a whisk, a pot large enough for pasta, dry measuring cups, and sheet pans. I would also recommend bringing your own knives. The screened-in porch upstairs was a plus and we did play foosball.

Second time better than the first
Booked another stay next to Lake Anquilla after spending time with family last year. Wonderful location, a short hike to Lake Anquilla and not too far from Lake Whitney. The cabin is kept very clean with everything needed for time away - board games, DVDs, kitchen and cookware available, and plenty to do outdoors.

Off the beaten path
We stayed here while attending supercross in Arlington. We prefer to stay at places outside of the city limits. We were able to visit Waco, Arlington, and Fort Worth during our stay making this home the perfect location if you're wanting to travel to multiple cities during your stay. House was clean and the perfect atmosphere for us. Also enjoyed having fires in the fire pit at night. Would definitely stay here again and everyone we traveled with also agreed to that.

One of my favorite family traditions growing up was our Easter family camping trips. Spring weather is so unpredictable, so some of our Easter events were seriously affected by inclement weather. We decided it was time to find a place with cabins and a lake so if the weather changed, we had a place to shelter and feel safe. I am one of three sisters and am privileged to have a cabin in this beautiful place. A member of our family wisely asked us to be part of purchasing the 24 acres now called Trinity Trails Ranch. As a host, it is a joy to know how our family dream becomes a part of our guest's experience.
We hope you can experience all the beautiful things we have come to appreciate about this unexpected jewel of a place that we call Trinity Trails Ranch.

Why they chose this property

I've learned location is essential when starting a business. We are city dwellers that often need that escape from city life. Driving through country roads and into the woods brings your whole being into a different state of decompression. If you appreciated nature or just love the outdoors, you will certainly feel connected to this beautiful space out in the country.
We are 60 miles from Dallas, 65 miles from Fort Worth, 40 miles from Waxahachie, 30 miles from Waco, and only 8 miles from Whitney. We are a 15-minute drive into downtown Hillsboro.

What makes this property unique

We love nature and designed the cabin/home to encourage our guests to enjoy the outdoors. Starting with all the widows that give you views of the surrounding forest. A large porch with plenty of seating for outdoor dining or just hanging out. The screened upstairs deck is truly my favorite place to relax. It's an indoor-outdoor, very cozy space, I believe you will love as well. Hiking opportunities, you might find some different animal prints on the roads or spot flint or arrowheads. There is a Texas-sized fire pit to enjoy on chilly nights or just because you want to roast some marshmallows. Lake Aquilla is a well-kept secret for fishing; it's known for having large-mouth bass, catfish, crappie, white bass, and sunfish. At times while standing by the lake, we see and hear fish jumping out of the water, just asking to be caught. Fortunately for them, we don't fish as often as we would like. So don't forget your fishing rods. If you bring a boat, be advised to inquire first. The closest ramp is the Derry Hills Ramp off Hwy 1947, about 5 minutes' drive from our location.
