About this property
The Cobble House, Exceptional Country House Sleeps 10/Near Killington, Woodstock
Set on a terraced hillside above the White River in the foothills of the Green Mountains in central Vermont, the newly restored Cobble House is a striking, two-story home that sleeps 10 in five en suite bedrooms. A 19th century mansion fit for the 21st Century, updated with European inspired luxury, it is close to skiing, food, hiking, and on the best trout river in Vermont.
Inside, you can gather for a casual family meal in the eat-in kitchen equipped with top-of-the-line professional appliances, a 10-burner Garland stove, and all the tools a gourmet cook craves, or entertain your family and friends in the Dining Room.
Relax in the Parlor, with floor to ceiling windows that bring in the surrounding forest and plenty of seating for all to lounge comfortably. Retreat to the Reading Room for a good book, to play games, or media binge on the large-screen smart TV, or swap stories over a nightcap in the Club Room. If need be, there is an office for private calls, work and homework. There is also a mud room, for ski and outdoor activity equipment. The house is equipped with 1 GB fiber wifi internet connection and Apple TV.
Sleeping 10 in five bedrooms, all have ensuite bathrooms, each with its own character. Located on the upper floor, they are appointed with luxury linens and bath products. All have tall windows letting in ample light, fresh air and the soothing sounds of nature – and each has a fan and air conditioner for any hot summer days (not so many in Vermont!). At night, all have blinds and curtains for darkness. Four bedrooms have queen beds, one has two twin beds that can be converted to a king,
Outside, make the most of the seasons with indoor-outdoor living, drifting from the house to the secluded open air bluestone terrace – perfect for cocktails al fresco, or viewing lawn games in progress - or to the wrap around veranda – a family area with overstuffed furniture, rocking chairs, and a long dining table for casual outdoor meals and a grill.
With 7.5 acres of countryside around you, explore the woods on our private walking trails. Lounge on the viewing deck over the river or continue down to 300 feet of private riverfront for a dip or great fly fishing (our stretch of the river is one of the top rated in the region).
At The Cobble House, you’ll step off the beaten path far enough to escape but close enough to enjoy local activities and exploration. A four-season house in Gaysville, it is only 20 minutes from multiple ski resorts, including Killington, and recreation areas. A short distance to Stockbridge, Bethel, Woodstock, and other charming towns, you are perfectly placed to enjoy a wide array of seasonal activities, shopping, or a night out.
From the house, it is 25 minutes to Killington's Snowshed and Skyeship lodges or to Pico Mountain, 40 minutes to Sugarbush and Okemo, 55 minutes to Mad River Glen, and 90 minutes to Stowe. Close enough to enjoy what each resort has to offer, but far enough away to enjoy the quiet and solitude of the mountains.
This is a non-smoking property, and pets are not permitted. Thank you in advance for respecting our house rules, they are very important to us.

About the host
Hosted by Kevin Travis
Raised in Texas, I fell in love with Vermont as a child the first time my family came to visit, escaping the heat of a Houston summer. In the beginning, I came to visit family friends, and returned as a summer camper. I bought my first house here in 2001, and have been coming here ever since.
Over the decades, my own friends and family stayed in the Cobble House and I used it for work offsite seminars. When the opportunity came, I wanted to be the next steward of the Cobble House, making sure the house lived on.
I have lived and worked in many cities, including Boston, London, Johannesburg, and most recently New York City, before settling full time in Vermont. I've restored the Cobble House with a 21st century update, influenced by my international experience with the express purpose of sharing it and the best of Vermont with guests like you.

Why they chose this property
Family friends owned a 1791 house nearby, and when they moved, we bought it. Gaysville is a beautiful, peaceful escape from the wilds of the city living, with acres of my own to explore and a river running through it. Yet, in 20 minutes, I can be in town, on a ski slope, or at one of my favorite local farmer’s markets. There are plentiful outdoor activities in all seasons and there is also a vibrant arts and culture scene. For someone who no longer wants the city life, but wants the amenities and then to retreat, it’s perfect.
What makes this property unique
Built in 1864 as a formal country house for a prominent doctor, when Abraham Lincoln was president, the Cobble House has retained almost all it’s period details. In its restoration, we have been careful to keep the integrity of it's original architecture and details. With soaring ceilings, floor to ceiling windows letting light and nature in, and both large, open and small, intimate spaces to enjoy, we have brought in modern European design sensibility and all the updates necessary for maximum comfort. It’s easy for 10 people to gather, or find their own, quiet places. With 7.5 acres of land, walking trails, and 300 feet of riverfront, it is like yours to enjoy like a private resort.
