About this property

Stone cottage in tranquil village location, 5km from Porec

Beautifully appointed 2 bedroom air conditioned 3 storey self catering Istrian stone cottage set in lovely rural location between Istria's tourist mecca Porec and the rolling hills of 'The New Tuscany'. Ask for our QuickTime movie.

Views over vineyards and olive groves in this tiny hamlet 5km from Istria's main tourist destination.

Enclosed garden with olive tree and locking gate. Covered patio area with garden furniture. First floor bedroom also has a terrace with fine views of the surrounding vineyards and farmland.

10 minutes from Porec & resorts Plava Laguna (Blue Lagoon), Zelena Laguna (Green lagoon) and Bijela Uvala (White Bay). Waterskiing, windsurfing, scuba diving, boat & bike hire available. Pula, home to Europe's 3rd largest amphitheatre and gateway to stunning Brijuni Islands (where you will find Tito's palace, a safari park and a unique golf course) is just 40 minutes away.

Local Amenities: All facilities, supermarkets, banks, ATMs, travel agencies etc available in Porec. Local restaurants serve wonderful food with a strong Italian influence, great Pizzas and pastas, as well as sea food caught daily and very drinkable local wines.

Don't miss the Istrian truffles with steak or fusilli, Prsut (the local dried ham), sheep’s cheese, wild boar with pasta, and raw fish gaspaccio.

Croatia excels at all sports and local hotels offer excellent facilities, indoor and outdoor tennis courts and Padel courts. At the Hotel Diamant there is a superb 'Wellness Centre', with gym, pools, sauna, steam room, treatments etc.

The beaches in Istria tend to be pebbly, rather than sandy, with a few exceptions. There are purpose built paved platforms with steps down all along the water's edge, which are ideal for sunbathing, particularly if you don't like getting sand everywhere! The Adriatic is one of the cleanest seas anywhere, winning praise from Jacques Cousteau as one of the most beautiful seas he had ever dived in.

Getting there: Low cost daily scheduled flights from Stansted, to Pula (40 mins from house) and Trieste (around 90 mins). EasyJet and Whizzair fly Luton to Ljubljana (90 mins) and EasyJet now fly Gatwick to Pula.

Other carriers have cheap charter flights to Pula and Rijeka. Scheduled flights also available. Car hire available at all airports.

Feel free to call Mike or Ria for help finding flights and car-hire.

Beautiful house and great location

The house is located in a small village. The house is absolutely beautiful and we enjoyed the nature and the quietness. It’s only a few minutes by car to the beautiful town of Porec. We will go back there again.

Rustic, beautiful and quite perfect!

A rustic house which had great character and was perfectly situated to explore all directions in beautiful Istria. Very well equipped, clean, with all the comforts needed for an enjoyable and peaceful stay. Thank you, we had a wonderful break and all the neighbours and local farmer were very friendly. The farmers two pet cows were pure entertainment!

Well maintained, comfortable, peaceful location.

The house was well maintained and contained everything that we needed for a comfortable stay. We enjoyed being in a peaceful location but within easy reach of many lovely places to visit. Neighbours were friendly and we appreciated very much the gift of fresh figs and grapes. Having the balcony outside our bedroom was a great bonus and we made good use of it. Rather disappointingly - and contrary to the information with which we were provided - there were no places to eat within walking distance. The restaurant in Muzalez had closed down - it seemed as if that had happened some time ago. We wandered around the village until we found what had been Bepo's Grill, recognising it from a leaflet in the house, and there was no sign of that ever having been a restaurant. It would be helpful, therefore, for information to be updated. By exploring around the village, we found a few nice walks, including one into Porec. Again, providing such information in the house would have been good. Setting aside those few niggles, we had a lovely holiday and would recommend the property and the area highly.

Excellent location

We had a most enjoyable stay at Villa Maria which is in a very small and friendly village. We felt we had made a good choice in both the property and location. The neighbours, who look after the property, were very friendly and generous in supplying us with pears and very tasty grapes. Porec is very beautiful and interesting. There are also many other places of interest to visit. We found a picturesque beach for swimming at Ulika. Like most beaches in Croatia it is rocky and stony but with a pair of jelly shoes it is not a problem - sea was pleasantly warm at this time of the year. A few good restaurants locally and a large choice in Porec. We barbequed a couple of times. Only negative point: TV sound would not work through satellite box and DVD player did not work (juddering and stopping). I let Mike know and I'm sure he will sort this out. A very minor point and we would recommend this accommodation without hesitation.

Delightful stay in rustic house in Valkarin.

My husband and I have just returned from our lovely week at the cottage in Valkarin. The cottage was well-equipped and clean with lots of helpful extras such as maps, local information and beach equipment. We found it with no problem due to helpful instructions and maps e-mailed by the owner, A little extra drawer space in the bedroom would have been nice - but then we always take too many clothes! We had lovely warm/hot weather all week and were grateful for the air-conditioning in the bedroom. It was lovely to sit on the shady patio in an evening with a bottle of wine while watching the swallows swooping around. One of the nice things about the property is that it's within easy reach of so many places. Porec is only ten minutes drive and Vrsar and Novigrad for instance are perhaps twenty minutes drive . All the roads are well-signposted and we found them to be well-maintained and uncrowded. A nice change from the busy roads in England. We visited Porec several times and it's just as pretty as I remembered with a great choice of restaurants and bars. It has a great atmosphere in an evening and is lovely to stroll around. We enjoyed visits to Vrsar - with it's view of the islands, Rovinj, Novigrad - which was smaller than Porec but one of our favourites, Motovun - where we had a leisurely lunch on the terrace of the Hotel Kastel while enjoying tha amazing view and Groznan with it's cobbled streets and arts and crafts shops. If driving to Goznjan I would avoid the rough, winding road sign-posted from the main road from Motovun and take the road from Buje instead. We enjoyed lots of memorable meals at reasonable prices. Our favourite was the Ranch Grill Barba Nane on the left side of the road to Pazin and only a mile or so from the village of Musalez. We ate in a pretty garden there in the shade of climbing Kiwi bushes. There was an excellent choice of food with friendly waiters who all spoke several languages and we found the prices were generally cheaper than in Porec One day, after getting a little lost on a walk to the coast, an elderly local couple in a battered old car took pity on us and took us to the beach - refusing our offer of payment. I think this sums up the friendliness of the people that we came across. The whole area is so pretty, clean and full of character with lovely gardens everywhere and we will certainly be back in the future.

Just Ideal to Unwind

Being used to the constant noise that is todays 'way of life', We live under the flightpath to Stansted, and have the constant humm of traffic commuting to London, pretty much 24/7. It is such a shock to the system to hear almost nothing at all. I swear I heard a beetle scuttle across the wooden floor one morning, I was beginning to think that sort of quiet was a thing of the past. The TV I believe had suffered a lightning strike previously & was'nt working, what a bonus that was, we actually got to talk to one another again. :-) The Villa Maria, situated in a quiet corner of Istria but still within easy reach of anything that takes your fancy, Noisy Coastal resorts, Not so noisy Inland towns and villages, & for the more active, the Croatians thrive on sports of all kinds and there is plenty of opportunitiy to burn off a few calories (They love their food, and large portions to boot) all in all a wonderful experience.

Villa Maria, Valkarin

Villa Maria is a lovely village house full of character. The location is peaceful and rural yet the house is within easy reach of Porec and the coast and all necessary amenities. The house is well equipped for 4 - 6 people and has all you need for a comfortable stay. We were there in April so made use of the open fire in the evenings which gives the living room a cosy feel. There was plentiful hot water and the heaters were efficient at warming the rooms quickly. The first floor bedroom and balcony are lovely and had the weather been a little warmer we could imagine sitting out there wine glass in hand in the evenings! Our only suggestions for improvements would be the provision of a little more storage in the bedrooms and a toaster in the kitchen. The neighbours were friendly and helpful and there is a good choice of places to eat out within walking distance or within a few minutes' drive. The owners were also very helpful in providing advice, information and in arranging food for our arrival. All in all we had a lovely week's holiday and would recommend Villa Maria as a comfortable and peaceful place to stay.

Lovely stay, just outside Poreç.

Lovely holiday home for 4-5 people. The accommodation is just 5 minutes from the centre of Poreç by car. Here you will find everything, the centre but also the lovely Adriatic sea with its sun terraces. Nice trips can be made from the cottage to Pula, strolling through Rovinj, dolphin spotting from Vrsar. The house has the necessary conveniences, good beds etc. Lovely outside, in front of the cottage for breakfast and or dinner. For us, it was lovely!

Calm, quiet home in a village

Very relaxing home in a village east of Porec. We had a wonderful time visiting Novigrad and Porec, which are within 10-30 minutes away and have a LOT to see/eat/do. The home itself was quiet and lovely. A/C worked great, all basic necessities were there, beds were comfortable, and it was very quiet and dark at night. We had some trouble finding the home in the dark, so it would be wise to arrive before sunset (esp in case you need to chat with the owner). Michael helped us very late at night, so we are thankful for his support. Michael also shared good information about the area, dinner, neighborhood, etc. Overall, we would stay again!

WUNDERBARE UNTERKUNFT

Relaxing time in Valkarin

We (family, 2 Kids, 1 dog) had a fantastic time in Valkarin close to the vicinity of Porec. The house was a good starting point to discover the Istrian Coast from Rovinj to Novigrad. Small Konobas, good restaurants and shops like Lidl, Kaufland etc were in short distance by car. After an adventurous day we could chill and rest in our typical Istrian accommodation.

a perfect place where you can relax and also enjoy the wonderful beach life

The place Mike and Maria created is as peaceful as we wanted it to be. With a beautiful view, super nice hosts who gave us a feeling of being part of the little village of Valkarin. We liked the evening walks, sitting on the terrace having breakfast and dinner, and it is at a perfect distance of Porec. Porec is really beautiful with its narrow streets and nice little bars and restaurants. We recommend Bacchus! Nice food and nice people!
