About this property
Rustic luxury and breathtaking views near Arezzo in Casentino - 3br sleeps 6
Get away from at all at Casa al Vento!
A luxurious retreat in the tranquil woods of the Tuscan countryside away from everything, secluded but only a 15 minute drive from the lively town of Arezzo, ideal for families and groups of friends. This artfully restored Tuscan farmhouse in the Casentino Valley boasts meticulous attention to detail with modern appliances and historical accents surrounded by 40 hectares of forest. (Please note that the last few kilometers to arrive at the house are gravel, and not always in perfect condition. For your comfort and ease, we recommend a vehicle that sits higher to the ground - a Fiat Panda or the like works like a charm).
Furnished with local antiques by an American interior designer, everything is placed with en eye toward comfort and whimsy.
A great place to relax and get away with friends, family or even for personal time. During the summer, fruit trees abound, but all modern conveniences are just minutes away - markets, restaurants and a local wine shop.
The villa has a large living room with fireplace, sofa and comfortable chairs ideal for relaxing. The bathroom on the bottom floor includes a spa shower.
The chef's kitchen is beautifully outfitted, with modern Boffi appliances, includes all sorts of tools to ensure a delightful culinary experience to discover the flavors of Tuscany. A large table is the centerpiece of the dining area, but the best dining is under the stars.
The porch, directly off the living room and kitchen, includes a seating area - as well as a dining table and a barbecue. It is shaded and cool during the day, and an ideal setting for dinner.
The villa includes an oversized master bedroom with a private bathroom, large bathtub with hand shower and double sink. Two double rooms, one with a lofted seating and writing area, share another bathroom - also with tub and hand shower.
A pool is available to guests of the villa a five minute walk down the hill, at Il Borghetto di Carra - pool towels are included for guests.
Cleaning
The house will be cleaned before your arrival, linen and towels is included, and you will find toiletries and other products to meet most eventualities. The kitchen is also equipped with linens - and if you have special needs, please ask, we. will try to meet your request as much as possible.

About the host
Hosted by Leslie Harwell

My mother and I shared a passion for Italy for over 20 years. While my mother spent time rebuilding the historical home from ruins, scouring antiques markets for the perfect pieces, and in culinary school throughout Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, I spent my teenage summers studying the language, culture and art history.
My mother was a long-time resident of Atlanta, Georgia and native of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, and I now call Woodbury, Connecticut home. When she passed a few years ago, I decided to keep the home rather than sell it, and preserve it for the next generation of family, friends and guests.
Our dear friend and neighbor, Barbara, helps make sure that guests' stays are comfortable and seamless - she will likely be the one with whom you communicate, but please let her know if you'd like to communicate directly with one of us for tips to make your stay as magical as possible. She lives right down the hill and welcomes our guests at her pool, and she and her husband, Walter, may even invite you for dinner :)

Why they chose this property
This property is best for those looking for the ultimate combination of being in a rural, peaceful area - while staying accessible to towns with restaurants and services within 10 minutes, and a lovely, lightly touristed city with 20 minutes (15 once you get the hang of the road).
We started coming to this area almost 20 years ago because we found the typical areas where 2nd home owners tend to congregate less authentic, and we heard too much English walking around! We wanted to find an area where Italians go, and where there is a real community.
We were lucky enough to find that in this area, and have never looked back. Since the house was rebuilt, all the appliances and systems are practically new, which is very unusual for the area.

What makes this property unique
The view from this house is unreal. On a clear day, you can see 80km to Lake Trasimeno (near Perugia) - and the pictures don't do it justice. On the property there are fields and places to hike, and you can truly unwind. As previously noted, the last few kilometers of road to the house is unpaved, and we recommend arriving with a vehicle that sits higher to the road (either an SUV or Fiat Panda-type car).
Sitting on the porch at dusk, it is not unusual to see deer, wild boar, and other animals running down the hill.
Waking up at sunrise in one of the front - facing bedrooms is really a special treat - the fog floats around the hills below, and the sky is practically magenta.
