Designed by the architect William Playfair in the middle of the 19th century, Carlton Terrace, along with the adjacent Regent and Royal Terraces, forms part of Edinburgh's prestigious New Town district.
This comfortable one bedroom apartment within Carlton House has recently been refurbished and furnished. Situated on Carlton Terrace, one of Edinburgh's most elegant cobbled streets, this second (USA third) floor apartment is in a prime location for the city centre attractions as well as its famous viewpoints such as Calton Hill & Arthur's Seat. The Royal Mile and Princes Street are both only a 10 minute walk away.
The apartment's position at the rear of the building ensures privacy, tranquillity and a south facing aspect.
Please note, this is a non smoking apartment.
Please also note that there are 2 flights of stairs to reach the apartment and there is no lift so it may not be suitable if you are elderly or have breathing difficulties.

Local Vicinity: As you walk out of the front door of Carlton House and face London Road Gardens, it is difficult to believe you are only a 5 minute walk from the vibrant restaurant and entertainment district of the East End of Edinburgh. The Playhouse Theatre which stages the latest musicals and shows is a 5 min. walk away and Harvey Nichols and John Lewis department stores are also within 5-10 mins. walk. Add another 5 mins. walk and you'll reach the shopping district of Princes Street and George Street.

Parking: Street parking is available on Carlton Terrace on a metered basis from 08:30-17:30 Mon-Fri but with max. stay 4 hours at any one time. Outside of these times, parking is free. You are virtually guaranteed to find a place right outside the property at any time.

Stunning location. Wonderful property

The apartment is fantastic. The photos really don’t do it justice. The rooms are large, beautifully furnished with gorgeous period features. It is superbly well equipped and extremely comfortable. Edinburgh is a stunning city but it will require summoning all your resolve and determination to leave the apartment each day. The location is also excellent - equidistant (about 5 mins walk) from the start of Princes Street and the Royal Mile. We loved our stay and Mark was a superb host responding to queries really quickly. We cannot wait to return!

Edinburgh -a favourite destination

Perfect town accomodation - quiet ,comfortable and cosy. If I had to find any ‘fault’ it would be that the stairs were a fair hike for an older individual. But don’t be put off , it’s a gem.

Edinburgh Elegance

Ive stayed in many rentals up and down the country and not many have stopped me in my tracks and made me say WOW in the way this apartment did, Mark's property is really elegant, decorated and furnished with a beautiful style. It is comfortable well equipped and spacious. The bed was comfortable and the bedroom was spacious with ample storage, the kitchen was well supplied with appliances,the lounge was so comfortable a real lovely sofa to sink into in the warm room, a bonus is a bath in the bathroom not just a shower, to soak the bones after a good walk around the city. The apartment is located in a quiet block and a quiet corner of the city, just 10 minutes pleasant walk to the bustling centre. We hired a car for 3 days and had no problems parking in the evening free after 5.30pm, being mindful payment was required during the day to park outside. Mark was a very discreet host answering any questions promptly and checking our stay was ok. We certainly would stay again. After reading my Review if you go ahead and book I'm sure you will not be disappointed

Great location

An excellent property on an upper floor of a classic Edinburgh ‘Newtown’ terrace. Everything was provided and location was very convenient for a wide variety of restaurants and the city centre.

It is hard to imagine a more well placed, well equipped, comfortable and agreeable apartment to stay for a week. Elegant, with a touch of class, in a quiet part, an interesting walk from the centre, and just below the amazing Carlton Hill, with its spectacular views of the city. Highly recommended.

We had a great time. The apartment is lovely and so central. Unfortunately we were issued with two parking tickets outside the apartment. We thought that there was free parking. We were given no intimation about parking costs when we booked. We now face a £60 parking fine which was unexpected. The initial booking should have pointed out parking costs or a issued a residents parking voucher as part of the procedure.

My second stay in Carlton Terrace, just like falling in love all over again.

The flat is in a beautiful quiet terrace within easy walking distance of the centre of Edinburgh. The fringe festival is an amazing, exhausting unforgettable experience, heaven was coming home to the peace and beauty of the flat. Highly recommended for your first or fifth time in this fabulous city.

Perfect Location for Edinburgh Christmas visit 2017

Firstly Mark was very clear and friendly in all his instructions and directions for finding his apartment from the airport and from the moment we entered the foyer of the building the place felt very homely and cosy. The flat itself is just lovely and decorated and fitted out with quality and classy furniture, homeware and gadgets. Edinburgh was looking its best in the sunshine and frost with Christmas markets and crowds enjoying the festivities and made all the better by strolling back to Marks apartment and lighting the fire and opening a bottle of red. All in all a great stay and one we look forward to repeating. PS we 'mislaid' the spare set of keys but Mark was both understanding and generous in resolving the matter - top bloke !! John and Di

Perfect apartment with welcoming host

Elegant and well equipped home from home. We were welcomed by Mark who very kindly allowed as early entry to the apartment which is very near to the theatre district and good restaurants. In a quiet terrace with lovely views, including Arthur's seat. Well worth the short walk to all the city sights. Would definitely recommend

Well worth a stay - and thoroughly recommended

An excellent apartment! It was very well equipped and classy, in fact a home away from home. Every little detail was clearly explained and informative. We wanted for nothing. The location was great, being within relatively easy walking distance of most sites, including tourist attractions, a variety of restaurants and bus routes, but especially near Calton Hill with its superb views of Edinburgh.

Cosy and classy apartment on the hill.

A lovely place to spend a few days in historic Edinburgh. Beautifully appointed, very quiet and comfortable. All mod cons, ideal for a couple, leafy location near the Palace of Holyrood, the Royal Mile, and Calton Hill with its monuments and views across the city to the Castle and Arthur's Seat. Mark, the owner, welcomed us and gave helpful advice about local eateries, bus and taxi services. It's a place we will revisit and cannot recommend it too highly to anyone contemplating a stay in Edinburgh. First class accommodation all-round !

Superb home from home

The property was beautifully appointed, whilst remaining homely and comfortable. The location is perfect, just a 10-15 minute walk to Princes Street or the Old Town, yet far enough away that peace and quiet is all you wake up to. We even saw squirrels! I have already recommended it to friends, and it will be my first point of call on my next visit to Edinburgh.

Wonderful!

We loved this apartment. It was cosy and tastefully furnished, with a gorgeous little kitchen. The area was quiet and an easy 15-20 minute walk into the old town and Princes Street, as well as to the Botanical Garden and the Waters of Leith (25-30 minutes). The owner, Mark, was easy to communicate with and met us at the apartment, with many suggestions about sightseeing, restaurants, area shops, etc. We will definitely return to this apartment!

Excellent and well-equipped flat

The flat is in a Regency terrace and there are good transport connections (the tram from the airport terminates at York Place, an 8-minute walk from the flat and there are buses nearby); it is also an easy 15-minute walk to Princes Street Gardens. Calton Hill is just behind the terrace and affords wonderful views of the city. The flat was exactly as advertised and in excellent condition: tastefully furnished; new bathroom and kitchen; dishwasher; washer/dryer; very nice Denby dinnerware; there is also a view over back gardens to Arthur's Seat. Mark was a pleasure to meet and he was very helpful with information about the flat (everything is well-organized) and Edinburgh. We inadvertently left some items in the flat on the day of our departure and Mark was very willing to send them on to us. We were very comfortable during our stay, and would like to live there longer-term! We will certainly make this our first choice for any future trips to Edinburgh. Many thanks, Mark.

Amazing apartment in city center

I stayed at this apartment for 4 days and 3 nights. When we got into it we were just so surpreised by all the amazing details and attetion that Mark had for the forniture. I've visited many cities and stayed in few apartments but nothing can beat this one. There's everything you might need and more. There were 3 of us and we had all our space. The beds were confortable and the kitchen is so well equipped. Its such a warm and lovely apartment.The position is perfect for visiting the city,really just 10 minutes walking to Princes Street. We had such a great time here in Edinburgh,also thanks to this wonderful place. We'll surely consider it if we'll ever come back. Thanks

FABULOUS!

We had an absolutely amazing stay at Mark's place! The rental is located about a 10 minute walk from the city, yet the area feels very quiet. The interior is wonderfully furnished, in great condition. Staying at Carlton Place surpassed all our expectations and helped us have an amazing stay in Edinburgh. This was the best experience we have ever had with a rental unit. 5 out of 5 stars!!!

I bought this apartment in 2008 as a holiday flat and loved the building and the location so much that I was lucky enough to buy the adjacent apartment in 2012 and I have lived here eversince.

The unique benefit of this apartment is the juxtaposition of the proximity to the city centre whilst maintaining a rural feel due to the proximity to Holyrood Park.
