About this property

Historic Funk House

15 min from Harrisonburg.

Experience one of the most distinctive homes in the village of Singers Glen VA. Elaborate 2 story frame house set on a high basement built in 1894 by Joseph Funk the grandson of the publisher of the song book Harmonia Sacra. The neighboring home was built by his brother William Funk. We spent a year reinforcing, updating and making it more user friendly and at the same time keeping the era of the house alive. We would love to share our special place with you.

Our family’s most favorite stay ever

Elvin and Sandra’s beautiful 1894 home gave us the most relaxing and unique stay our family has ever had. We all wanted to pick up that treasure and take it with us! So spacious and beautiful! The house was hands down the cleanest we’ve ever stayed in. Their daughter has done an incredible job decorating the home in a way that is simple and draws you in, feels relaxing and captures the history and culture of the area. Sandra provided fresh cuttings and flowers throughout the home. This sweet couple provided us a handwritten note and fruit, homemade cookies and waters complimentary. The cookies were some of the best we’d ever had, and the couple were happy to share the recipes with us. There’s a collection of old historical books throughout the home that gave it a neat touch. Each room smelled of freshly wash sheets, and the bathroom was well stocked with conveniences in case visitors forgot something at home- anything from facial wipes to shampoo and conditioner and body wash, to a hair dryer and even a new toothbrush. The kitchen was stocked with good cookware and plenty of spices and staples, things that they don’t have to provide, but it shows that they care and go the extra mile. The stove is magnificent! We enjoyed antiquing and visiting the farmer’s market nearby, as well as some of the local restaurants. We’d planned to do some hiking in the Shenandoah Valley, but inclement weather arriving changed our plans. I cannot recommend these renters and this home enough!
