About this property

The Granary at Hawkhurst

A beautifully furnished countryside retreat set at the foot of the Long Mynd in the heart of the South Shropshire Hills. The recently redecorated and tastefully renovated detatched Granary standing in the grounds of Hawkhurst, (originally a farm), comprises two double bedrooms, the master bedroom having a superking-sized Vi-spring bed, the downstairs bedroom, a kingsize bed, two shower bathrooms, a kitchen and living room spread over two floors with stunning views all round.
The property is ideally situated in an exceptionally private and beautiful area of outstanding natural beauty, 650 feet above sea level, yet the Granary is also just a short 5-10min car journey to the towns of Church Stretton and Craven Arms and 15-25 mins to the historic market towns of Ludlow and Shrewsbury. Guests can therefore choose how much or little exposure to civilization as they please!
A visitor pack has been carefully assembled offering restaurant and local pub recommendations, a selection of walks as well as local visitor attractions and amenities.

In light of recent events, we want to reassure guests and potential guests that every measure is being taken to ensure the property is deep cleaned between bookings. The Granary is, as already mentioned, in a very quiet location and there is no need to have face to face interaction with anyone during your stay. Walks are available from the doorstep literally but for those who simply want to rest and take it easy, they would be hard pressed to find anywhere more peaceful and relaxing.

Wonderfully relaxing stay in a beautiful location

We were very impressed with everything about our holiday. The accommodation was spacious, well presented and very comfortable and the hosts were always helpful but unobtrusive. We loved the area and hope to return soon. A great location for walking and cycling and so many places to visit in the area.

Wonderful weekend

We hope to stay at The Granary again, to re-experience the beautiful area and this fantastic house. Everything was perfect, good sized bedrooms fully equipped kitchen/diner, lovely sitting room, we didn't use the balcony due to the weather, but gives a great view of the wonderful countryside and to cap it all, total isolation. We look forward to our next visit.

Family Holiday

The Granary is an excellent base for a holiday in Shropshire, it is clean very well equipped and in a beautiful and peaceful location with stunning views from the lovely balcony. Lovely hosts and a very warm welcome including a bottle of chilled prosecco in the fridge! If you are considering the Granary we would say don't hesitate as you won't be disappointed. We tried several local pubs for evening meals and can highly recommend The Station Inn and The Ragleth Inn both of which are within a 10 minute drive (details in welcome book) and slightly further afield The Lion at Leintwardine is also very good and in a nice location by the river.

It was everything we hoped for.

The accommodation was perfect. The location, views, cleanliness and comfort. It was faultless. Although the weather wasn't particularly good we were able to get out and explore the area, knowing we had the comfort of The Granary waiting for us.

Wonderful!

A lovely property in a beautiful setting and an ideal location for exploring the Shropshire Hills. The granary is well furnished and maintained. It was lovely sitting out on the balcony in the evening sunshine, enjoying a gin and tonic and the peace and tranquility. Outstanding property and really lovely owners

We stayed for a long weekend as a family of four (including 2 girls, aged 6 and 9). The property itself is truly amazing, very clean, unbelievably well stocked, spacious and very tastefully decorated with everything you could need. Out of every window are the rolling hills and forests of Shropshire's AONB. The property is tucked well out of the way of any main roads so if you want peace and quiet and great views you cant go wrong. There was some fantastic walking to do in the surrounding areas and Church Stretton, Ludlow and Shrewsbury are all within easy driving distance. The owners were first class in terms of communication and being really helpful and when we met them briefly they were really lovely people.

Lovely converted granary

We recently spend a lovely week at this property. The Granary has been beautifully converted to the highest standard and was very clean and comfortable. The grounds were stunning and very well maintained and the location perfect for a peaceful break with plenty of options for day trips, including National Trust and English Heritage properties. We were a little disappointed that the ‘basic food items’ mentioned in the property listing included only tea, coffee and a few rather random odds and ends left behind by previous guests, including some items that were out of date. No welcome pack as mentioned in previous reviews and no milk for a much-needed cup of tea after the journey. Luckily, the Granary is only a short drive from both Church Stretton and Craven Arms to pick up supplies, so it wasn’t an issue, but it meant the cottage didn’t feel quite as welcoming as others we have stayed in, including throughout the pandemic. Nevertheless, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Granary to anyone looking for a comfortable, relaxing break in a beautiful part of the world.
