About this property

VERY Private, Spectacular, Waterfront Location

Anam Cara Villa is a unique vacation home located directly on the water in Little Bay, South Sound, Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands. The Villa's spectacular private waterfront location is in a BVI designated marine sanctuary and near one of the last undeveloped landscapes on Virgin Gorda.

The views off the decks and balconies range from looking directly down at sea turtles, various tropical fish and the occasional mantas swimming below to stunning views out to sea with endless waves rolling up on the offshore reef. To the sides and behind you are views of the surrounding mountains and hills of Gorda Peak National Park. Your closest neighbors are the parade of marine life below, pelicans and seabirds above and cows grazing serenely on the distant hillsides.

Anam Cara Villa is comprised of just under 5,000 square feet of tropical modernism architecture spread over two buildings designed for seamless indoor-outdoor living. The five bedrooms are all en-suite.

The three large master bedroom suites all have king size beds and large spa bathrooms complete with both indoor and outdoor showers, double vanities and soaking bathtubs. Upstairs in the main house are two additional en-suite bedrooms with private balconies directly over the water below.

The main floor features a large gourmet kitchen connected to the outdoor living area through large 8ft by 10 ft doors and a unique breakfast bar with an 8ft by 5ft serving window. The kitchen/dining area merges into the living area which has two separate seating areas and stunning sea views. The lower level hosts a media room for watching movies or just hanging out.

Outside living features 12 separate decks and balconies each with its own unique views. The centerpiece of the outdoor living area is your own resort like horizon edge pool complete with a swim up bar and outdoor sunken kitchen with barbecue. The saltwater pool has both a waterfall and laminar flow water features with fiber optic lighting. Pool lighting colors can be changed with a wireless remote control.

All of the indoor and outdoor areas are tiled with natural travertine stone. You can choose to relax on the deck letting the marine and bird life of South Sound entertain you or simply hang out by the pool. You will have full access to the private tennis and picklball court, newly built in 2025.

Just a short one mile drive away is the North Sound welcome center and dock where the various free water taxis will take you to the many *restaurants, resorts and yacht clubs for drinks, lunch, dinner, shopping, or entertainment. North Sound is a destination unto itself whether it is Bitter End Yacht Club, Saba Rock Resort, or Leverick Bay Resort!

Beautiful seclusion

Family of 6 had plenty of room to spread out! The home sits above a beautiful cove, with some construction of a tennis court underway. The cove is very pretty, appears to be shallow water, but with the weather there was quite a bit of debris. The cows enjoy the beach every morning during their grazing time. Humorous to see! The beds were very comfortable, with house management cleaning mid-week, linens were always fresh. AC units worked very well during a very hot spell. Air circulation was pretty decent during rolling power outage from the main electric provider. The road definitely requires a jeep, so heed property description well- it is quite literally a cow path. The pool was quite relaxing, but did need a bit more maintenance on the pump to remove the debris and bugs. There are quite a bit of stairs to climb to reach the entrance, so be prepared if you are traveling with less mobile people. Ample refrigerator space, some provided extras like kitchen supplies. Lots of cooking utensils. Word of advice- food supplies in stores are not like you would find on mainland. So potentially look into delivery service from Tortola or pack your own. The house/property manager was very helpful and responsive to questions. Overall we had a wonderful time!

Unmatched Views.

We had a group of 10 adults that stayed at this villa in February 2024. The villa was clean and just a little dated. Chico and his wife were so easy to deal with and very helpful throughout our 10 day stay. The road to the villa was a bit hard to find and we probably should have rented 4x4 vehicles instead of vans. The beach area was lacking due to the trash, broken glass, cows, and goats everywhere. However, we were able to take a very short drive to a beach where we had a picnic and soaked up some sun. Levrick Bay is a very short drive and a little village in itself. We actually watched the Super Bowl there and had an amazing time. The sunrises at the villa were beautiful! The stars at night were breathtaking. The villa was extremely private, which we loved!! Plenty of room for everyone, and we never felt crowded. We will be back, and hopefully very soon!!!

Beautiful and fun!

The house has a beautiful view and the pool area was so much fun for the adults and kids! The kids loved the waterfall in the pool and the adults loved all the great places to sit and chat. We were truly blessed by the house! Thank you!

Beautiful property

This trip was a gift to our parents (in their 70s) as well as our family vacation. The owner has been exceptionally accommodating throughout COVID and the limitations imposed by travel restrictions. Unfortunately, our visit was cut a bit short by this year's record-setting sargasso seaweed bloom; the owner (again) was very helpful and responsive. Snorkeling in South Sound was a highlight as was the pool.

By islands standards, this was a 5 star. Overall a great trip with some minor hiccups.

Overall, we had a great stay. There were some minor inconveniences, like the beach being unusable(not the homeowner or property managements fault) due to major seaweed blooms in the area. The house has some minor signs of age but overall is great. The pool needs some work and better cleaning (several dead roaches and bugs) could have done without the camera hidden inside in the kitchen. Just felt a little invasive. There was a super cute house cat that hangs around the property. We were told it belongs to the farm next door, but she never left and was super eager to get inside the house. (Which we didn’t allow- she has fleas and mites). Highly recommend and encourage a jeep, bring pool toys, there is one tv in the downstairs of the main house. It was nice being able to disconnect. With a view like we had, you don’t miss it. The kitchen was well appointed and it was nice to see sharp knives and provisions. Pay it forward for the next guests like we did. The house has great views. The outdoor showers were a nice addition. Expect lower water pressure outside. Upon arrival Chico had arranged a water top off for the cistern and pool, which was much appreciated. Recommend provisioning thru bucks market but expect out of stock items. We had a great trip. Saw whales just beyond the reef in our cove. Tons of turtles, sharks, great sea life and bird watching. Highly recommend this villa!

Absolutely amazing!!!!

Let me first say that Virgin Gorda and this house are both gorgeous and relaxing. The view from each of the decks and all the front facing windows are amazing with the sound of the surf below. The house is clean, sun filled and has a very open feel. The location was great for us but make very sure that you’re comfortable driving on the left on narrow and very hilly roads. Be sure to rent a four wheel drive with clearance because the road is very bumpy but part of the charm. We loved that the house was as remote as it was but know that it’s out there. The only reason that I didn’t give this house five stars is that the beach is not nice or swimmable for most. Lots of seaweed and trash with strong and consistent waves due to the trade winds coming in. At the same time, incredible beaches 15-20 minutes away so totally worth it and the views amazing. Stay here and enjoy.

Virgin Gorda Little Bay

This beautiful house with pool easily accommodates 5 couples or 10 people. It is located on a private bay. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a nice gas grill and pool. It is ideal if you are looking for quiet and beautiful surroundings. Great beaches, hikes and restaurants are all 20 minutes away by car. Highly recommend it.

Amazing views

We had such a great time in Virgin Gorda at this Villa. It was well-equipped with a lovely pool area, lots of bedrooms and outdoor porches with amazing views - great way to start the day with breakfast on the deck overlooking the ocean. Each bedroom has its own bath/shower and some even have outdoor showers so you get this amazing view of the mountains and ocean even when showering. The beds are comfortable as well. Attentive hosts answer all questions and make sure your stay is happy.

Anam Cara

We had a great time in the British Virgin Islands. Anam Cara is a lovely villa. The location is completely private with beautiful scenery all around. The ocean breeze keeps the temperatures cool on their balconies throughout the day. We had a lovely time. I would highly recommend this property to others looking to explore version Gorda and the British islands. You will need to rent a jeep to access the property, but it’s quite easy to get around to the various parts of the island. Our week flew by and we are ready to go back next year!

Multi-generation Family Vacation

We just returned from an incredible family vacation staying at Anam Cara Villa. Bridget was extremely helpful leading up to our vacation and responded quickly to messages, answered questions, and even provided information for us to have dinner cooked in house by a local chef the night of our arrival. The house itself was spacious, clean, and very well appointed. The airline lost our luggage and we were thrilled to find that every shower had small bottles of shampoo and soap to hold us over until our bags arrived. There was even a cooler that we were able to use for beach trips! It is down a dirt road and renting a jeep would be a good idea to make the trip easier. Chico and Elizabeth gave us a tour of the house, cleaned mid-week, took care of the pool and any issues that came up, and helped us with info during our stay. We did not use the beach or waterfront at the house because (perhaps due to the storm) there was a large amount of seaweed while we were there, but it was a short drive to Savannah Beach and Nail Bay and those beaches are incredibly beautiful and most of the time empty. We vacationed in June and the weekend had some other families on the beach but mid-week it was ours alone. Gun Creek is just around the corner from the paved road and you can get free water taxis over to Bitter End and Saba Rock for dinner or drinks. We had a great trip!

remote paradise

This property is a fabulous find. It is remote, which makes it special. It is beach front which was wonderful for us. Both are exactly what we were looking for for our island vacation. We wanted to wake up and see & hear the ocean waves from our bedrooms each morning, and this property was perfect for this. If you want pristine beach, then you can drive into town to any of the well known locations for the afternoon and relax. Like on any Island, it takes the first day to get used navigating the road in and out of town, but after that it was a comfortable trip. We enjoyed saying hello to the farmers cows along the dirt road. There are enough bedrooms and overall space at the house to comfortably accommodate large families or multiple couples. The house care takers are gracious and so very accommodating. Indoor and outdoor furniture is perfect for relaxing with your family or friends. We enjoyed our stay immensely. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Anam Cara Private Oasis

Anam Cara is a beautiful home with a spacious layout so friends or multiple couples can have privacy and also enjoy common areas like the living room, kitchen, multiple decks and swimming pool. There are great views from just about any place in the house. A short walk to the beach where you can enjoy beautiful water and snorkeling. However, there is still a lot of trash leftover from the hurricane. There is even a shipwrecked not too far down the beach. Renting a car is a necessity to get to many of the island's wonderful beaches - Savannah, Spring Bay, Trunk Bay and of course the Baths. If you are looking for a quiet place to vacation with incredible views, then Anam Cara is it. Virgin Gorda will not disappoint.

Paradise

Our family of four ( parents and two teenagers) just returned from a fantastic vacation. This villa has everything we could ever have imagined. The views from every room are spectacular. The villa is extremely spacious and extremely comfortable. We did many day trips from the house and also spent lots of time at the small island directly across from the house. We kayaked out to the island. The snorkeling was some of the best we have seen. We had the most incredible time and cannot wait to go back.

Anam Cara Villa is Beautiful!

Anam Cara Villa exceeded our expectations once again. We visited before the hurricane and enjoyed ourselves just as much this time. The Villa was perfect for five couples with room for everyone. Whether we wanted to be alone or hang with our friends the space was perfect. It’s well maintained and the kitchen is perfect for cooking. When we wanted to go out to eat there were a number of choices. Levrick Bay was close by and the beach bar is just the same as it was prior to the hurricane. There is plenty to do and The Baths continues to delight! Once again we ate at the (rebuilt)Hog Heaven and also visited Oil Nut Bay for a scrumptious lunch. I wouldn’t hesitate to return to Anam Cara!

Tranquil Paradise!

Anam Cara is an absolute beautiful hidden gem! I escaped the cold winter and stayed here with my family for 10 blissful days in January. The home was perfect for a large family and had all the amenities you needed. It's spacious enough with lots of different seating areas and views around the house, perfect for day time siestas or if you simply just want some alone time with a book , or glass of wine. It also has large dinning and communal areas too, perfect for dinners together. If you don't fancy cooking, you can chose from lots of delicious places to dine from in the local town, my personal favourite was a lovely place called "Radas". The pool area has stunning sea views as well as a bar and BBQ area equipped with speakers for music, it was great being able to enjoy home cooked food at the house, with multiple cooking facilities. One of my favourite features of this homes, was the night time star gazing! Being on a small island meant very little light pollution at night, I've never seen such bright stars and clear skies before, truly a breathtaking experience had by all the family. When we weren't enjoying our time at the house , we were off exploring the stunning sights and activities the island had to offer. I would highly recommend visiting Savannah Bay, a close by beach that is probably now one of my favourites in the world, very beautiful and tranquil, perfect for a swim or sunbathe. I would also highly recommend The Baths at Devils Bay, more beautiful beaches but with a cool unique small hike through rocks to access. There is also very good snorkelling here! Anam Cara had the perfect balance of peaceful tranquility and fun time activities! Something for everything to enjoy, would highly recommend!

Still needs some TLC

Still needs a little TLC. The upstairs bedrooms A/C units were barely working. It was obvious it has been that way for awhile. They put a portable A/C unit 3 nights into our stay. The kitchen table and chairs are very wobbly. Some furniture that was damaged by hurricane is being reused. You can see the water marks on it. You can see where things were fixed in a hurry. Don't plan on using this beach at all. Full of trash debris from hurricane. Everyone on island was extremely helpful and nice.

A Magical Week for Two Families!

We had an amazing week at Anam Cara!! South Sound is an incredible place to unwind and completely relax. The snorkeling and scuba diving right from the beach in front of the house were the best we found on Virgin Gorda, there were tons of fish, lobsters, sting rays, and anything else you might want to see. We walked from the beach closer to the point where you can see the coral beds from the shore. The house and pool were in immaculate shape. Given that Irma hit the island just 6 months ago, I was amazed. There was no signs of any damage at all to the villa. We cooked most meals at the house and thoroughly enjoyed all of Virgin Gorda. We had 9 people total and had more than enough space and privacy.

Escaped to Paradise

This was my wife and I's 9th trip to the British Virgin Islands, but the first time on Virgin Gorda. We also brought two other families and a total of five teenagers. Hard to imagine a more perfect home base than Anam Cara. The floor plan is perfect for multiple families. None of us ever felt crowded at all. The secret is how their are so many balconies. I lost count, but there were several. My favorite is the front balcony overlooking the South Sound and recipient of constant tradewinds. Spectacular. The furnishings were nice and even with so many people there, you still had ample privacy to use the three outdoor showers - nice touch which reminds you that you are literally in paradise. The bonus is that you can literally walk less than 100 feet and put your feet in the ocean. No this isn't the beach you will want to stay, but for a pleasant swim and even some snorkeling, it's great for it's location. Several of us snorkeled out to Conch Point (you can see it from the house). Very doable and the effort is worthwhile as you reach the nearby point and see mountains of conch shells where the fisherman harvest the conch meat and dispose of the shells on the beach. We secretly exported about six spectacular conch shells back to Nashville. The location is also ideal. We were nervous about the reviews of the driveway, but it was perfectly fine. 7 tenths of a mile of dirt road which was fine with our oversized 12 passenger van. A bit bumpy for the folks in the back, but I volunteered to drive so it was fine. You could be in nearby Leverick or Gun Creek (for ferries to Saba, Bitter End, and Fat Virgin) within 10 minutes of leaving the house. Savannah Bay which took top honors in our competition for best overall BVI Beach is right at a 20 minute drive. Hogs Heaven (best ribs in the BVI) is less than 15 minutes and The Bath's (best hike) is less than 25 minutes. Best mental escape in the BVI was Saba Rock (Take your favorite beverage of choice along with an order of conch fritters and grab a comfy chair on the beach behind the bar - Absolute paradise watching the kite surfers and day dreaming about being 20 years younger. Let's see, the only criticism is - hmmmmmm, maybe black out curtains if anyone wants to sleep in. Maybe having a TV in the living room on the main floor. Pretty Dang Nice! Final point - Andy with BVI Rentals was superb. Met us at the ferry dock, answered all questions!

Stunning Views from a Perfect Getaway

My husband and I joined 3 other couples for a wonderful getaway at Anam Cara Villa. The setting is very private, and the house has spectacular views. The bedrooms are well-appointed and each delivers privacy and outdoor space. The common rooms are spacious, and there is plenty of room to get away, both inside and outside. The pool, deck and swim-up bar are perfect to enjoy the sun and ocean breezes. The people of the island are friendly and so accommodating. Our arriving ferry was over an hour late, but the car rental folks and the housekeeping staff waited for us. The folks at Hog Heaven stayed open just for us - and we went back there later in the week for lunch, drinks and the amazing view! One could spend the entire week at Anam Cara Villa, but there is so much to do on Virgin Gorda! We visited Saba Rock, The Bitter End and enjoyed the Jumbi stilt dancers at Leverick Bay. We rented a couple of kayaks which were delivered directly to the house. We shopped at Bucks and cooked in almost every night. The kitchen is a cooks dream, and the huge windows open to the counter and stools outside, providing a very communal feel. We also chartered a boat for a day of snorkeling and had a great time! Thanks so much to Barry and Marie - your advice and pre-visit information was spot-on, and the house is even better than we expected. We would definitely go back!!

Why they chose this property

It was love at first site when we first ventured off the main road into South Sound. The drive was like nothing we had ever experienced. The road first passes along the waterfront beach with palm trees, then past a horse stable and working farm with cows grazing. At the end of the this short drive we arrived at the unspoiled Virgin Gorda we were seeking. The road opens out onto a stunning sea view facing into the gentle trade winds. We knew we had found our own Caribbean paradise, our 'Anam Cara.'
So in 2007 the adventure of building began. Our goal was to create a retreat where families and friends could gather in an unforgettable setting. A place for renewal and sharing. A place for remembering the important things in life like laughter and love. At the same time we wanted to respect and minimize the impact on this very special setting. We were the first house in the BVI to use the environmentally friendly ICF building process. We also wanted to take advantage of the natural cooling and refreshing trade winds in the architectural layout. Other 'green features' include dual grey water recycling systems for the gardens, cool roof technology and other 'green building' systems. All the rain water from the roof is captured for reuse in a large cistern. We wanted to keep the electric usage (and our bill!) low by using energy efficient water systems and lots of LED lighting. There is very little night time light pollution which makes for spectacular star gazing as well. There is no noise pollution as the only sounds are from the birds above and the sea gently rolling along the offshore coral reef.

What makes this property unique

Anam cara is an Irish language term meaning 'soul friend.'

According to Celtic spiritual tradition, the soul shines all around the body like a luminous cloud. When you are very open, appreciative, and trusting with another person, your two souls flow together. This deeply felt bond with another person means you have found your anam cara, or 'Soul Friend.' Your anam cara always beholds your light and beauty, and accepts you for who you truly are. In Celtic spirituality, the anam cara friendship awakens the fullness and mystery of your life. You are joined in an ancient and eternal union with humanity that cuts across all barriers of time, convention, philosophy, and definition. When you are blessed with an anam cara, the Irish believe, you have arrived at that most sacred place: home.
We hope that our home in Virgin Gorda will become your own 'Anam Cara'.
