Amazing views

This was a great property located at the halfway point of the island so easy to explore either side. Close to a lovely beach and easy sea bathing with lots of shops too. The roads are steep but then they are anywhere in Madeira. Certainly a good workout if you decide to go walking on the numerous paths.

Absolutely stunning!

The property was beautiful. Had everything we needed. Games room was good, pool was good, location was stunning! That view……blew me away. Had never been to Madeira, but will certainly be returning. Communication with John was fantastic. We got lost going to the villa after arriving - completely my husbands fault!! Gina’s husband came to the rescue and we followed him to the villa!! Could only happen to us!! 😂 We met Gina on the last day as we were leaving, she was so lovely. Our stay was awesome, we wanted to find time to relax, and we certainly did that. Carlos is a fab local taxi driver. Property is well located for sightseeing and relaxation and a short drive to the town of Funchal. The pool was fine for my boys, 14 & 11. Although it wasn’t a deep pool, which we knew as we had read the details before going, we made up games to play in the pool, and generally soaked up the sun. It was absolutely fine. We have returned wanting to purchase a darts board!!!! And return to Madeira.

Disappointed -

POOR MANAGING: We arrived on the Wed 13th July. There was a flight delay and also the car hire took a very long time. By the time I gave our contact a call 30 minutes later than planned, her reaction on the phone was so aggressive, grumpy and not happy at all. She said she would see tomorrow and the next day she cancelled as she was busy with meetings. It would have been good to be shown everything we needed to know about the house that day, beware the service revolves around the property manager schedule and was reactive not proactive. We had a day of cold showers then info came in on how to warm the water. STRESS: A day before our departure I was stressed out by calls at 09:30am telling me to check out - this was a day early!. I explained but she would not listen, she insisted I call John and get him to send her a text. Surely this was her job - no customer service at all - ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS ADDED: During our stay additional I was told warned about over using the electricity and water saying they would charge me for this, which scared me as I had no way of checking or proving what my usage was they could say anything they wanted. They also added that all bins must be emptied and the house be clean. Surely all these conditions should be made clear upfront and not added on to the contract whilst we had already started our stay - to be honest I felt like we were being bullied and could not say anything. POOL: On our arrival I noticed that the pool was not clean, which makes me wonder if it was cleaned before our arrival? The pool was cleaned 2 days before our departure, surely the pool should be cleaned on the day guests check out. Pool was not heated at all and the water was cold. main pool is small and only 0.8m deep RE ELECTRICITY: On Wed 20th the day we were vacating - Electricity kept cutting out. I spent most of the morning running up to the third floor to switch the main switch back on! This was so frustrating and stressful, I thought something major had gone wrong. On the day the family were trying to get ready and shower which also kept cutting out. We had some clothes to wash and dry as well as cook breakfast. The electricity limitation should have been mentioned to me in advance because I would have planned better and not stressed! In the end we couldn't even use the kettle, very disappointed. Beware!

Nice location with magnificent view

The property met all the description provided in the booking system. It was very well equiped with all we needed during our stay. The games room was a huge add on. The location was easy to find using the google maps but additionally the directions from the owner helped us to navigate. The view from the terrace and the rooms was amazing. The space outside the property was just right for our family to relax. The water in the pool was nicely heated, however the pool itself is more for cooling down or for little kids to play rather than to be used for swimming due to its depth. There were couple things at the arrival which I wanted to highlight. There was a long list of warnings on the electricity or water use, which we only received with the arrival form emailed to us before the arrival. This made us affraid of what the limitations may man in terms of the stay’s comfort and the total cost. However at the check in we were told to disregard these warnings. This made us completly lost. If only such things were listed in the booking system all the rules of the house were clear upfront. Given we were moving from one location to this property, we requested an early check in, which was impossible due to cleaning, however we were offered to drop our luggage so that we could spend the day on the planned activities. We truly appreciated the flexibility. However when returning later for the formal check in we had to wait 2 hours in front of the property awaiting the manager who had other check ins to make. If only the already established communication channel had been used by the manager, we could have enjoyed the activities or have dinner instead of awaiting the check in till 7 pm. Just minor things to improve and make the stay even more enjoyable.

A little disappointed

Villa was decent quality. Pool was good, more than adequate for our purposes. Pool advertised as heated - it was absolute freezing when we got there. It was also not clean. Luckily pool guys came on the Monday and started the heating and cleaned it. It was unusable for nearly 3 days in reality. After the guys had been it was fine. There was no BBQ even though advertised. We asked rosalina and she said it had broken so they’d taken it away… but not replaced it. Bit odd really. If something breaks it makes sense to replace it. We had to buy a portable BBQ to enjoy lunches around the pool. Disappointing. There was also the most irritating yapping dog that lived next door that literally never stopped barking. Worst of this at 11pm at night and again at 7am in the morning. Relentless. Not the hosts fault but important for prospective guests to know about. It really spoiled our evenings and breakfasts that we hoped to enjoy at pool side. Appears quite negative, but overall the place was comfy and a decent base to go off exploring. Views are astonishing. John, have the dog neutralised, it’s going to cost you a lot of customers.

A lovely villa with great views of the sea

We had a lovely stay. It’s a good location in that you’re in the heart of the community. Car is essential to get around though, the island has lots to offer, you just need enough time to do it all! The villa is well equipped with everything you need to make your stay comfortable.

Unfortunately due to the collapse of monarch airlines we were unable to make our stay at this villa. However Mr & Mrs MelHuish were incredibly understanding and helpful. If I get the chance to visit madeira again there's no where else I'd rather stay. Many thanks

The villa was perfect for our family

The villa was like home from home it has everything you need for a perfect holiday. The pool was ideal for little ones as was the games room. The view is spectacular and a perfect way to watching the sunset. Whilst there were very minor faults this did not in anyway spoil our time here. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and would return here in a heartbeat. Thank you so much Mr and Mrs Melluash

A very nice and well presented villa.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The villa is very well maintained and immaculately presented. It was in stark contrast to another property we hired earlier in the year. We had a very relaxing stay and once we got our bearings were able to explore the island. The pool depth was perfect for us as a family giving us piece of mind when the kids were playing in it though is was a bit cool for my liking. The kids didn't mind either way! The owners obviously take great pride in the property which was very welcome to see. All in all a very good standard and somewhere we would consider staying again.

Wonderful holiday in a great villa

Just returned from a wonderful week at casa Faraway. Comfortably sized villa for 6 (we were 3 adults and 2 children aged 4 and 8). The playroom is very well stocked with toys (the air hockey was a particular hit) which was great for the children. Also a well stocked DVD and book library. Not that we were inside much as we had fabulous weather. The views are absolutely stunning and it is a great base for days out. We had a problem on arrival - no water in some rooms - but this was fixed (the pump wasn't working) very quickly. The pool is very shallow (I did know this in advance from a previous review) but hadn't appreciated quite how shallow - great for a plunge but not for swimming. Overall a great base for a great holiday. Thank you.

Large spacious, well-equipped villa

Very impressed with the villa and the pool. Rosalia was very welcoming and the local taxi drivers were fantastic. Local shops were limited but people were helpful and friendly. The supermarket in Ribeira Brava was very good, as were the cafes and restaurants. Quiet, peaceful location except for the 'farmyard dawn chorus' which was very entertaining! An enjoyable holiday and the view from the villa was to die for.

Lovely villa in peaceful location

We had a wonderful stay at Casa Faraway. The décor wasn't to our taste and a little oppressive, but other than that, the villa had pretty much everything we could have wanted. Positives: Amazingly beautiful views and peaceful location, well equipped (and very clean) villa with plenty of space Negatives: Pool is very shallow - not really for swimming (this wasn't a problem for us, but might be for others); there is no air conditioning which would have been a plus although there is always a breeze. We didn't hire a car and managed very well with the help of the wonderful Horgio - his contact details are in the information book - who turned up as and when required. Overall, a very good location.

lovely villa, good location

We had a lovely week in Casa Faraway, the villa was very clean and in a good location. Riberia Brava is a lovely little town, with all the facilities you need, and Funchal is a short drive away. We experienced 2 issues during our stay, the washing machine leaked and blew the electrics, and the ironing board is broken. We reported the washing machine to the owners representative, Rosalia twice, but we recieved no response. Despite these issues we enjoyed our stay, particularly the view.

Fantastic spacious Villa in peaceful area

Lovely villa with a nice pool. Very spacious villa and the kids enjoyed the pool for cooling off during the sunshine. Rosalia the property manager was very helpful and met us at the car park at Campanario as the transfer company did not know the villa location. We had an issue with no water but a call to Rosalia and 10 minutes later it was resolved. The villa itself is very spacious and has a bathroom on each floor as well as an en-suite in the master bedroom. The games room is a nice touch and well kitted out if the weather were such that you needed to stay indoors. We were lucky and didn't need to make use of it as there was plenty to do. The owner does say a car is required and I would tend to agree, but it depends on how confident your are driving abroad. Personally we found a very nice local taxi driver called Carlos and he was brilliant. Always turned up when he said and his prices were reasonable. All in all we were very happy with our stay and the villa itself. The island is beautiful and there is something there for everyone. I would happily recommend the villa to anyone as you won't be disappointed.

Large spacious villa ideal for families

Lovely holiday - we visited in winter and the pool could of been warmer and it felt slightly damp in some rooms but that said the owners were lovely, were prompt to rectify any issues. View is stunning and it's so quiet. Funchal is about 25 mins by taxi but local towns 10 mins away. Great place to stay .

July 2015 - 2 weeks

My family and I had a great holiday in Madeira, and found Casa Faraway very adequate for our needs. The villa is very spacious, and with the games room and "splash" pool, the odd day that we were in the villa for a full day, our 2 boys had enough space to entertain themselves. It is unfortunate that the pool is so shallow, and as a result it was used very little by us, as we are a family of good swimmers. We understand now that this villa caters specifically for families with small children, but it was not really obvious to us at the time of booking. I had 5 minor issues to report: 1. The catch on the large sliding door, from the lounge onto the pool deck, is not secure and was found on the floor one day, which meant the villa was unlocked for a period until I worked out what the issue was. 2. On the second last day, we tried to contact Rosalia (The property manager), as we needed a taxi but could not explain to the firm where the villa was. Unfortunately she did not respond and I had to rush around on our last day and had to take my sister to Rebiera Brava to catch a taxi to her hotel in Santa Cruz. This was a bit of a disappointment, as if there had been an emergency, she would not have dealt with it. 3. The BBQ is in poor condition and I had to clean it thoroughly before it could be used. 4. The bath shower screen in the en-suite is not fit for purpose. 5. The downstairs shower does not drain adequately and almost overflows, cutting short any long showers. We did also think that the villa could possibly benefit from ceiling fans as these help with the mosquitoes and obviously provide cooling on those warm nights. Other than these minor issues, we had a great time and would definitely go back to Madeira in the future, but not necessarily to Casa Faraway.
