Rustic getaway with great garden space

We loved the remote location; we didn't have to shush the kids and they loved the outdoor space. The access to different countryside walks and views from the cottage itself was great, because we do a lot of walking and it's nice to just step out and go (lots of roaming sheep and horses to watch). Within a half hour/40 min drive were several places worth visiting, including Clun, Powis Castle, Knighton, and Welshpool (esp the Light Railway). Meal at nearby Radnorshire Arms was lush, while kitchen at cottage was well outfitted (owner happily received feedback on a couple of pans that housekeeping had not adequately cleaned). All in all great space and atmosphere--kids can't wait to come back.

Cosy rural retreat

We stayed over Christmas and enjoyed our stay here a lot. Loved the quirky furniture, eclectic art and open fire.. We saw a fox cub and heard owls. The sunrise was breathtaking. The kitchen has everything you could need. We appreciated the heating being on as we arrived on a chilly late afternoon. The host is lovely and can recommend this place whole heartedly.

Perfect break

Bought mum to Wales to visit her friend, well worth the half hour drive to Newtown each day as no need to go anywhere else. Enough grounds to exercise dogs and nothing else to do but relax and take in the stunning views.

Our stay at Cefn Pawl

We enjoyed our stay at Cefn Pawl. The location is great, quiet and peaceful. The cottage is rustic but with mod cons. The WiFi is good too. Angelika was very helpful in finding us a BBQ to use, which along with the garden firepit made for a good family evening.

Family holiday

I loved this house - felt like it has withstood many a storm and will last for many more. It had a very peaceful feel to it - lovely sized rooms which were comfortable and clean yet characterful. The location is fantastic - especially if you are looking for somewhere to get away from it all and to enjoy walks from your doorstep.

A lovely cottage that you can really relax in and great for dogs.. Very quiet surroundings away from it all ... just what we wanted. Host, Angelika, was brilliant too - very responsive and even called a couple of times to make sure everything was OK.

Rural, peaceful beautiful cosy cottage

A lovely 4 day new years break was enjoyed by all the family. The cottage was perfect to walk our dog in the most stunning countryside whilst the kids sat around the open fire playing games & watching films. The cottage has all the basic necessities & the central heating & showers was brilliant. Our host contacted us on arrival & our departure checking in on us. Overall I recommend this cottage for those who want to get away to a peaceful, stunning location & just enjoys the simple things in life.

Second time and it was wonderful

This was our second time at the cottage and we had a lovely time again. The first time we stayed at Cefn Pawl, we drove out a few times for day trips, but this time we wanted to enjoy the wonders of the cottage and the surrounding area so we didn't venture any further than the village. Our children love the place. The garden is perfect for them to play and explore, and their favourite thing to do was to walk down the hill to the village, buy an ice cream at the shop and then go down to the river to paddle and explore. The weather was pretty much perfect. Evenings were spent making smores over the fire pit, then inside for a movie by the woodfire. It's a lovely place with lovely people to meet and stunning scenery. Angelika is great to deal with and we have only good things to say.

Peaceful Rustic Charm

The cottage is based on an old Welsh Longhouse design & is probably between 200 & 300 years old. It has been sympathetically updated in places, with all modern conveniences and in a wonderful, quiet location. It is about 400 yards from the nearest dwelling [a holiday shepherd's hut] and about a mile from the main road, over a cattle grid and set in its own grounds within common land. This is a traditional and lovely cottage with a real fire & all sorts of interesting nooks and crannies and not - thankfully - a modernistic chrome, glass and stainless steel monstrosity. It has a superb heating system & is surrounded by trees, bluebells, other wildflowers and wildlife; we absolutely loved it.

Relaxing Retreat

Enjoyed time at the cottage in March. Lambs in the field outside the window and wild ponies on the track at the end of the driveway. The woodland garden was a good space to explore. Facilties in the cottage were brilliant. Lots of space and everything that I needed. Was pleasantly surprised by the Sky TV system, with Netflix and Prime. Broadband was a reasonably stable 10Mb, which seemed quite an achievement given the remote location! Host Angelika was excellent, communicating that loss of power on the first night was affecting the whole village (only for an hour thankfully). Neighbours called round with a box of candles, which was thoughtful. Overall a relaxing stay. I would definitely recommend.

I am a retired teacher, living in Gloucestershire with my husband. I grew up in Germany but am now totally anglicized . I speak German fluently, French reasonably well and Italian like a waiter.

Why they chose this property

The cottage used to be our family holiday cottage . After my retirement we refurbished it completely to turn it into holiday rental.

The cottage is in a lovely natural location and is ideal for relaxing, walking, bird watching, star gazing and exploring the sites of Wales. Cefn Pawl is very popular with guests with many returning again and again .

What makes this property unique

If you want to be close to nature and and love tranquillity, this cottage is perfect. The secluded garden is a great space for kids to play in. And for the whole family there is a friendly pub which serves delicious food in the nearby village.
