This beautiful spacious and well-equipped villa provides an excellent base from which to explore the fascinating Asturias region of northern Spain. Getting there is easy – we flew with easyJet direct from Stansted Airport to Asturias Airport, from where it is a 25’ straightforward drive to the property. The owner (Ana) could not have been more helpful, from the very first contact through to taking a personal but not at all obtrusive interest during our stay that everything was to our satisfaction. The house itself is comfortable, exceptionally clean and well-equipped, blending modern conveniences and facilities (including wifi access throughout, dishwasher, large fridge, washing machine, TV with all UK Freesat channels, etc.) with an old world charm. It easily accommodated our party of six adults and one toddler (cot provided). We particularly enjoyed the large and attractive garden, with sheep in the field next door providing endless fascination for the toddler, and the well-equipped games room where pool, table tennis and table football kept us occupied during the occasional rain showers. There is plenty to do in exploring the Asturias region. It is relatively undiscovered in terms of mass tourism (some of our party had a basic knowledge of Spanish which was helpful), but has much to offer. The coastline is spectacular, with its many secluded bays and beaches surrounded by cliffs and forests. The nearest beach is about a 30’ walk from the villa through a forest park. Further along the coast the resort of Salinas is a great place to surf. The nearest cities are Oviedo (with its spectacular cathedral and ‘big city’ shops) and Aviles (with its impressive Centro Cultural Internacional designed by Oscar Niemeyer) both well worth a visit. The region is rich in agriculture, with most of the shops including supermarkets stocking a variety of local produce. We particularly enjoyed the bread, cheese, cider and ‘Arroz con Leche’ (rice pudding). All in all, this is the perfect place for a family holiday, especially where there are a range of ages involved. There is plenty to see and do nearby or further afield, or you can simply ‘stay at home’ and enjoy the beautiful villa and its facilities.
