Perfect place to stay

Very comfortable house in a beautiful location away from the crowds. The owner is very welcoming and helpful with suggestions of local places to visit. All main sights are within easy driving distance. Excellent value.

Perfect house in perfect spot

I couldn't have been happier staying in Bjalli. I still get a little bubble of joy in my chest every time I think of it, and I don't think that's going away soon. I have stayed in many self catering rentals and never have I seen one more thoughtfully appointed with everything you could need. The decor is lovely and the views are glorious. I felt at once completely alone in the world, which was delicious, but warm and safe and looked after. Maja was a brilliant host, letting me know all-important news like weather and road conditions, and kindly coming down to say hi with Skinna, her sheep dog, but was never intrusive. My only regret is that I spent so much time exploring the wonders of Iceland that I did not get enough time simply to enjoy the house and it's surroundings, being there really only at night. (Although crisp clear winter nights spent there without any light pollution meant two nights in a row of Aurora Borealis!). I will definitely be back, for longer next time.

Idyllic, quiet seclusion.

The photo’s don’t do Bjalli justice. From the drive along the minor road with fabulous views to reach it, to the remote setting and yet more stunning views, Bjalli is the ideal getaway to refresh the batteries. It feels very remote but is in easy reach of all the Golden Circle attractions. The property is clean, comfortable and well equipped with good WIFI and the local information provided by Maja excellent.

Perfect spot to relax and be still after a day of exploring!

We just spent the week at Bjalli and we want to go back! It was close to so many of the things that we wanted to see in southern Iceland but out of the way so we didn't hear traffic or see people unless we chose to. It was clean and offered plenty of space for our family of four. We loved that there was a kitchen and fridge so that we could prepare our meals and sitting space to read and reflect in the evening after day trips. Maja had amazing ideas of things to see and great directions on how to get to some of the out of the way things we probably wouldn't have seen. She gave my wife a great location where she could buy some Icelandic yarn and offered to be available if we ever needed anything. Well worth it, we are planning our off-season trip!

Great House, Great Location

A lovely, cozy cottage in the middle of a perfectly snowy nowhere. Within easy distance of both the golden circle and the south coast. The day trips suggested by the owner were really useful - the Secret Lagoon and Sólheimajökulll were our favs. Would totally recommend Bjalli. Thanks Maja!

Fantastic Bjalli

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at Bjalli for 5 nights last week. We had a fantastic holiday. Maja is a fabulous host and provided easy to follow directions to get there, tips and advice before/whilst we were there. Bjalli was a romantic home from home with all amenities, don't expect boutique but do expect a well thought out accommodation in the wilderness of Iceland, yet with most attractions within easy drive. Friends recommended this property to us, and I would certainly recommend it to you. We wanted to be remote and explore Iceland without a travel company or tourist bus, and Bjalli proved the ideal location. Thank You Maja. We'll be back! Paul

Amazing in every way!

We spent three fabulous days at Maja's incredible cottage. Wonderfully located, perfectly decorated and spotlessly clean. The kitchen had more than enough equipment and spices for us to do all of our cooking at the cottage. We would return to the cottage if we ever return to wonderful Iceland. Maja is fantastic and extremely helpful on every level. She has a great informational binder at the cottage, and is also very helpful in person. The best!

Gorgeous cottage in an ideal spot to explore south-east Iceland

We stayed at Bjalli for 3 nights in October 2016 and after arriving during the worst storm for 15 years the cottage was a much needed peaceful, welcoming and most importantly warm base! Maja came to check we had arrived safe which was much appreciated and her tips for day trips were invaluable. The cottage has everything you need for a self-catered trip and the views are breathtaking. It's isolated location also meant we saw the Northern Lights clearly, and could top up our wine glasses whilst watching! We had a wonderful break here and would love to return one day.

Beautiful Bjalli!

What a wonderful, wonderful cabin. We stayed here for two weeks with our sons (6yrs and 3yrs) and had the most amazing holiday! The cabin is beautiful - light and airy, very tastefully decorated with beautiful original art on the walls. It's location is to die for - in the middle of a meadow on a hill side overlooking more meadows, herds of Icelandic horses, and Hekla volcano! It's so quite and peaceful. The cabin is located brilliantly for all of Southern Iceland's main attractions - Gullfoss, thingvellir national park, numerous waterfalls, Vik beach etc. All of them with an hour/ two hours drive. Maja is a delightful woman - friendly, helpful and so knowledgeable about places to visit. She made us all feel so welcome - Bjalli really was a home from home. The cabin is well equipped, cosy and warm - and you could sit and look at the views all day along. Thank You Maja for a wonderful and unforgettable holiday!

Cosy & Welcoming

We stayed at Bjalli for Christmas 2014 & loved it! :) Maja is so very welcoming & friendly. She is genuinely enthusiastic about Iceland & wants you to enjoy it as much as she does. She is also full of wonderful recommendations & useful information. In addition, the cottage is well furnished & the little details, such as candles, have been thought of; we wanted for nothing! We shall definately return to Iceland & hope very much to stay at Bjalli again!

Cosy cottage in a peaceful location

We stayed at Bjalli for three nights in February 2014 and we were lucky to have spectacular Northern Lights displays each night! The cottage is warm, cosy and is well equipped. It is in a peaceful location but also handy for the main route 1, so the main attractions of Southern Iceland are within an hour's drive. We particularly enjoyed Maja's recommendation to visit the Hrunalaug hot spring near Fludir. -7 degrees C that night, but lovely and warm in the hot spring, which we had to ourselves. Maja was very helpful when we met her the first morning of our stay. She kindly dropped off a set of Allen keys to enable my husband to tighten his tripod, which had become loose. Thank you Maja for a lovely cottage and a pleasant stay.

A very special place.

Bjalli is a very special place. Many cottages advertised in Iceland are in tight groups or attached to each other. Maja, the owner, has been very clever to situate Bjalli in a location where you feel totally alone in the peace and quiet of nature – but also knowing that her farmhouse is just over the hill. Ideally situated for visiting the variety of nature’s wonders to be found on the south coast of Iceland, Bjalli is also within easy reach of Reykjavik and the international airport is not a daunting distance away to drive. Clean, comfortable and quiet; we spent our relaxation time at Bjalli sitting on the porch watching meadow pipits swooping about, golden plovers tussock hopping and the antics of various other members of the local wildlife. The Hekla volcano is a great sight to wake up to each morning and even Eyjafjallajökull peeps over the horizon on a clear day. Without Maja’s excellent local knowledge and friendly advice we would not have made such good use of our days. Excellent, thanks Maja.

Stunning

A brilliant home in a fabulous location. Bjalli is a perfect get away for those looking for peace and serenity. A well laid out house with everything you could need. Warm and cosy and beautifully decorated. Lots of opportunities for day trips around the house with the Westman Islands and Golden Circle all within reach. Views of Hekla from the lounge window on a clear day. We had a fabulous time and highly recommend it to others. :)

Idyllic setting

We had a super stay in Bjalli! Such a cozy place and beautiful setting. The perfect location to get away from it all in South Iceland but still well placed to visit lots of different and beautiful sites. We found the owner Maja was extremely helpful and welcoming. We only wish we had booked to stay longer!

Our stay in Bjalli

We stayed in Bjalli for some days and it was a wonderful experience! The house is very nice, clean and cozy, with a lot of light. I really enjoyed having breakfast while looking at the horses down in the fields. The only thing we missed a bit was internet. It's a very peaceful location, excellent for a relaxing walk. You can go feed the horses, but also enjoy the silence with tiny brown birds following you. For the activities is a little driving always required, but be sure it's worth it :-) We did some horseback riding and admired some mighty falls and steaming hot pools. It was wonderful, Island is a great country! The owner, Maja is really a frienly person, you might come to Island only to meet her :-) We appreciated the fresh eggs and the list of nearby activities with a little description. Last, but not least: the friendly sheep dog! Skinna is a small-sized cutie! She's very sweet, really nothing evil in her minds! A final conclusion: we had a great holiday in Iceland and if we ever might come back, we will certainly return to Bjalli!

Vacation in the Icelandic countryside

Our vacation to Iceland in August of 2011 was extraordinary. We had never been to Iceland but left with the sure knowledge that we would visit again! Bjalli is in a beautiful rural setting and we were treated to the most brilliant sunshine you could wish for. Bjalli was clean and cozy and is situated away from the city, in a sweeping countryside. Icelandic sheep and horses are everywhere around you and we stopped often on our way to the main road to talk to the sheep and pet the horses on the road. It is peaceful and quiet, with everything you need for your stay. The hostess left farm fresh eggs to welcome us and all was clean and ready for us when we arrived, quite bright and early from our flight! You are less than half an hour from Selfoss, for groceries, gas, bank machines and the coffee/book shop, and the book of touring ideas (in the home) was really valuable - lots of ideas and local knowledge to help you out. We coudl even arrange for tour companies from the city to meet us in Selfoss (or area) rather than driving back into the city - a real boon! We enjoyed the location, within easy reach of many beautiful places in the south. We traveled every day and were always delighted to return to this setting overlooking the mown fields, country road and off in the distance, Hekla. After a day of adventuring around Iceland it is a wonderful, restful spot to return to. Maja was great, very easy to work with and very prompt in answering all our questions by email. We felt very comfortable renting and staying in Bjalli. We can't recommend it highly enough and hope to stay there when we visit Iceland again. There is so much to see in this great country - it is truly a beautiful work of nature, and this area is a beautiful gem.

Our Stay

We had a really great time one week at Bjalli House in august 2011 with all modern comfort, a magnificent view in all 4 directions, not very far from most tourist atractions we wanted to visit. Even the weather - everything was perfect, unforgetable! Fam. Duin, The Netherlands

Bjalli: beautiful, privacy and cosy!

We rented Bjalli for 10 days and it was wonderfull! Nice equipped, tastefull interior, privacy, nice views to Hekla, 16 nice horses on the owners property, helpfull owners and nice situated to explore the south west of Island. The changing skies and clouds are beautiful. The kids played around the house, visited the horses everyday and played with the nice dog skinna! Within 20km there where 4 beautiful swimmingpools which where a hugh success. Our kids (5,11,12 years old) had a wonderfull time and so did we. The book with tips from Maja were very helpfull to find the most beatiful places in the area. Vestmannajaer, naturalpools, Geysir/ Strokkur and Landmannalaugar were beautiful. We hope to come back to Bjalli in the coming years because we had a good time.

Beautiful house in the green hills

Iceland is breathtaking; the nature was so varying and beautiful – from hotspots to dark glaciers, falling or jumping water. Bjalli is a beautiful little brand new house perfect for a family, well furnished with everything that we needed. It is placed fantastic in the nature without any neighbors, with the most beautiful view to Hekla and the green fields with sheep and horses grazing. Bjalli is well placed for all tours in the south of Iceland. I hope we will be back in Iceland soon, then we will without any doubt choose Bjalli again, we will also recommend this house to anyone who likes to be in the middle of the nature watching Hekla looking different every day. The owner was very kind and helpful, and our children just loved there little adorable Icelandic sheepdog, which came by for a short visit every day to be sure we was alright. Bjalli must be one of the best places in Iceland.

Gemütliches Haus in toller Landschaft
