About this property

Illyria - a beautiful fisherman's cottage just 3 meters from sea

Illyria is a very old Dalmation fisherman's cottage which has been restored sympathetically to retain the authenticity of the property. The property is set over 3 floors with 2 of the three bedrooms enjoying breathtaking and uninterrupted views across the Adriatic Sea. The property comes with 2 bathrooms both equipped with power showers. Illyria is fully air conditioned throughout and satellite TV is available. Please bear in mind that we do need to change the furniture from time to time because the sea air does take its toll so individual furnishings may not look identical to the photos.
The property has a large terrace with BBQ - you can fish from the terrace and then pop your catch right on your own fire. Illyria is within a short walk of the local amenities including the many fine restaurants and pubs of Postira and the immediate vicinity. Guests may use the gym, spa (incl. manicurist) and sauna/solarium/internet facilities of a nearby hotel for a charge.
The island of Brac is only a 45 min ferry journey from Split which is directly served by an international airport. In the summer months, ferry departures from Split are very frequent i.e. every hour approx. Flights to Zadar (one and half hours drive from Split) and Dubrovnik (3 hours drive from Split) would also be suitable as would flights to Bol on the island of Brac..
Illyria was featured in the U.K. Channel 4 programme "Homes by the Med" - https://vimeo.com/205875693, enter code "med13" scroll to 12m35s and enjoy the coverage.

We can recommend a very reliable person, based in Split, should you require an airport transfer to the ferry port.

We also own and manage another prime site property, nestled in the heart of Diocletian's palace in Split(see HomeAway listing 1300888).This 120 metre, luxury, 1st floor apartment with its own private terrace (a rarity in Diocletian's palace) is simply stunning and its many guest reviews reflect this. It was recently fully renovated and is now available for rental. If a two-stop Dalmatian holiday is something you are interested in i.e. min 3 days in bustling Split city and it's great restaurants and shops coupled with a min 4 day stay on the island (only 40 mins away) with its great swimming and pure relaxation please let us know and we may be able to arrange it ...

Illyra

We had a wonderful stay here. 10 lovely days . The house is cozy, aircon great and with only 4( almost )adults ,we had plenty of space. Every morning we were greeted by the sea at our doorstep. The terrace is big and parts of it are always shady, just perfect. Ivan is very quick to respond and super friendly. We'd love to come back sometime. Thank You.

A little corner of heaven

This property looked wonderful on the website but location far exceeded expectations. Very simple design with all the necessary facilities all of which worked perfectly. Perhaps cushions on sun beds and an extra umbrella would have added something. Air con was definitely necessary and worked very efficiently. Thank you

Lovely fisherman's cottage

The fisherman's cottage is in the delightful village of Postira, it stands right on the sea, handy for swimming and snorkeling. Cottage is well appointed, lovely terrace for having breakfast/ lunch or even a glass of wine, before going out for dinner (a couple of nice restaurants in walking distance) Brac can easily be explored by public transport. Thank you for a lovely week, although the weather could have been better.

Lovely Place

I booked this for our honeymoon and it was great. Right next to the sea (check out the crabs, shrimp and baby fish) 5 mins walk to centre of Postira for really nice and friendly restaurants and easy walk east to deserted coves and roman ruins. 15 mins drive to Supetar and great general base for the whole island. Great place. Highly recommend.

Gorgeous fisherman's cottage

A beautifully located fisherman's cottage literally on the sea! Fantastic terrace with wonderful views across the sea, perfect for relaxation and watching the world go by. Well-equipped house with everything you need including effective air conditioning. Great location within a few minutes walk of Postira with a range of great restaurants, cafes and small supermarkets. Good communication with owner and helpful, informative Ivan as the Croatian contact. Thank you we had an amazing stay at "Illyria".

June 2018

We had a brilliant week staying in the cottage, there were 4 of us and the cottage was just right. The terrace was ideal and being able to just walk into the sea to swim and snorkel was fantastic. Ivan who met us was very informative and gave the lowdown of the house and area. We only ate lunch and breakfast on the terrace but there is a great looking bbq, restaurants, bars and shops were all within a very easy walk. Watching Croatia beat Argentina in the World Cup and the atmosphere was a bonus. Although we never met the owners we were impressed with the speed of their replies by email in the lead up to our holiday and felt we could always rely on them if needed. In short, if you are looking for a relaxing stay in a cottage on Brac I don’t think you could better Illyria. Steve

Incredible spot with the sea outside the back door.

Illyria Cottage is a characterful haven. We had some stormy weather during our stay and it was exciting to have the waves breaking a few metres away from the dining table. When it was sunny and calm we had pre-breakfast swims in the incredibly clear water just outside the back door. Postira is a wonderful place to stay on the island as it's not quite as touristy as some of the other towns. It has amenities and lovely walks to breathtakingly beautiful swimming spots around the coast. Being out of season quite a few restaurants were shut but we enjoyed self-catering in the cottage. I would suggest hiring a car as there's lots to explore on the island. The cottage had everything we needed and worked well for two adults and two older children.

Fabulously located and characterful cottage

Our family of five had a wonderful 12 days in Illyria. We adored hanging out on the sea terrace stirring only for the occasional dip or to do a spot of fishing off the rocks. The cottage is simple but had everything we needed and plenty of space for five adults. Enjoying breakfast, lunch and dinner on the terrace was the highlight of the holiday. Postira is a lovely authentic village which, even in August, was blissfully quiet. There are a handful of lovely restaurants and more bars all serving excellent and inexpensive food and drink. When we ventured further afield we discovered the beautiful and ancient village of Dol, the wonderfully picturesque Pucisca and the bustling and busy resort of Bol. All were worth a visit. We rented a boat and a skipper from Postira and crossed to Omis with its magnificent gorge and ancient castle. After an excellent lunch at sea we took in some gorgeous deserted coves where we swam off the boat. This is undoubtedly the best located cottage we've ever stayed in and we are feeling thoroughly relaxed and sun-kissed as we head back to English autumn. Thanks to Ivan and Marina for the welcome and recommendations.

Perfect Getaway!

We are a family of four ( two adults and two teenagers) who stayed at Illyria for 6 nights. If only it were longer! Illyria and the town of Postira combine to make quite simply the perfect getaway . The cottage has a unique setting being so close to the sea, with a stunning view over to the mainland. The vista was always different and always interesting - watching the daily activity on the water - and as a result we struggled to leave the terrace. The cottage itself was perfectly situated - a two minute walk to a well stocked small supermarket ( great bread at 7 am!) and a ten minute walk into Postira, a really pretty harbour town with a selection of restaurants, cafes, bars etc. We hired both bikes and a boat for the day from Postira and explored neighbouring areas. We bought beautiful meat from the butcher in town to barbecue and took a taxi to the restaurant in Dol for a traditional meal of Peka. Illyria has been renovated simply but beautifully , Steven and Thea as owners were always in the background should we need anything and the local property managers Ivan and Marina , warm, welcoming, friendly and informative. Without question we will return to Illyria and the beautiful town of Postira. Thank you to Steven and Thea for giving us the opportunity to stay at their beautiful fisheman's cottage. We would recommend it without hesitation !

Stunning!

What an amazing place! The views were spectacular! Spent hours sitting on the terrace. The kids loved snorkelling in the crystal clear water outside. The cottage was very well equipped and Ivan was brilliant at helping and recommending things to do. The airport transfers were great and very friendly and efficient . Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your house which I can only describe as an absolute gem of a place. The photos do not do it justice, it is so beautiful. Would recommend to everyone.

Paradise by the Adriatic

We....grandparents (74), son/daughter-in-law and grandsons (9 and 11) and daughter...are already trying to work out a return to Illyria❤️. After 11 days in Split and a fabulous speed boat delivery to Postira, we spent 8 days in the Robinson's little gem, Illyria Cottage. It was possibly the most relaxing 8 days we've spent traveling in ages.... And a perfect complement to our 11 days in the Robinson's Apartment Prisca in Split. Ivan met us in Split to make our arrangements. We spent most of our mornings with coffee first on the patio and then at Konoba Bracera ....lovely spot next to the sea. We tried most of the TripAdvisor recommended restaurants... I have a public Instagram account with lots of pictures (patwilburn73) and an open Facebook group (CROATIA2017) if you're interested.

The property lived up to our expectations

The property lived up to our expectations. We enjoyed snorkelling from the terrace and we saw plenty of sea life. Ivan was really helpful and recommended many places to visit I recommend Vidova Gora and Blaca If you hire a car. Konoba Kaktus is a great traditional restaurant just a short walk away from Illyria and the Lamb on Wednesdays was amazing.

Delivered on all expectations - superb

We are three generations ranging in age from 51 to 9. Illyria caters for everyone. Not only is it in the perfect location, close to two supermarkets, a butcher and several restaurants as well as having the Mediterranean Sea on the doorstep (completely safe to bathe in there and then), the owners have provided entertainment by way of toys and games and a huge selection of film DVD's for rainy days. Not that we had any! There is a gorgeous sandy beach that can be reached by a lovely sedate walk (circa 50 mins) or as we did 15 mins by hiring bikes, which has a bar and restaurant. The restaurant grows many of its own ingredients right next to it and all food is cooked to order. It was fabulous. The island of Brac is beautiful. We arrived by private boat transfer which was stress freely arranged via the owners of Illyria. It's a bit extra to pay than the ferry but well worth it. Illyria is such a relaxing cottage to stay in and had everything we needed. I highly recommend to anyone planning to come to Croatia, take a few days out on the island of Brac, and stay at Illyria. You will not be disappointed! Xxx

Amazing Location on a Stunning Island

Our arrival was made simple by the attention and thought Steven had put into the reception of his guests. If you feel any anxiety about travelling to this cottage, don't. The staff Steven had in place for reception were delightful. If you have any questions about places to visit, either on Brac or in Split, they willingly give you their time and knowledge. Following reception they remain descretly contactable. The cottage is very well appointed with everything you need for a truly stress free stay. Unfortunately the meteorological phenomenon known as the Bora visited us - a strong, chill wind originating from mainland Eastern Europe - and rendered the terrace facing the sea unusable however we retreated to the front patio which was a proper little sun trap where our travel BBQ was well used to grill our fresh fish. It is also fair to say that the property was allowed to breath quite freely making evenings in somewhat of a huddle. If visiting early season I would certainly advise packing your favourite slippers. The town is spectacular and the church deserves special mention for its beauty. The harbour front is a perfect place to relax at anytime of the day or night. The walks along the coast in either direction are a must thing to do. But, top of our strolls was to the neighbouring town of Dol. The town is a living museum! We can't fault the people involved in making our visit stress free. They all get Five stars from us. The weather took a little shine from our experience but this is the chance to take out of season.

A gem of a place to stay

Wow! We were welcomed by Ivan and Marina to this fantastic spacious cottage. It is spotlessly clean, in a fabulous location and It is hard to pull yourself away from the terrace. The lapping of the sea and the views over to the mainland are so therapeutic. If and when you do leave the terrace it is a very pleasant stroll into the centre and there is a lovely selection of restaurants to choose from. If you like a walk then head east along the coastal path until you reach Lovrecina Bay. It is a gorgeous sandy beach and after a day of swimming you could always phone a taxi home. We would highly recommend Illyria and would certainly consider returning.

A fabulous house in a perfect setting

We had an excellent time here for 2 weeks and really did not want to come home. The house was perfect and by far an away the best location we have ever had on holiday. We love swimming and being by the sea at any time of day so it was ideal for us. The terrace really is wonderful all the way though the day and certainly during July / August having morning sun and afternoon shade is ideal. We thought Postira was lovely and the right balance of peaceful and having a bit of life in the evening ( although when our teenage sons say they would rather BBQ on the terrace than eat out then you know it’s a special property!). We hired a car for the duration so got to see a lot of the island. We thought Milna and Bobivisca on the north of the island were also lovely. Ivan and Maria made us feel very welcome and also the Gecko Tours airport transfers worked really well. We would throughly recommend this as a place to stay.

Perfect holiday

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Beautiful location in a character house but with all the mod cons we needed. We had planned to do a bit more exploring of the island but when we saw the view and the terrace we stayed put for most of the week, lazing around, swimming and cooking on the BBQ. Lots of beautiful walks nearby - buses easy for the teenagers to go to Supetar for the waterparks etc. Didnt really eat out much but bars were good, with a bit of liveliness but not too much for us middle aged folk! Some great local music too with lots of families out and about for the vening promenage. Village is very friendly too. When we did explore we found the island to be stunning with many places to visit. We've been expats for 20 years and been to many beautiful places all over the world but the family agreed this was one of the best places we have stayed for the balance of views, things to do and relaxation. Perfect. Thanks for letting us stay there!

3rd visit to Illyria another fantastic stay

Our third time to this idyllic cottage. As always the cottage is clean and welcoming. The weather was warm but we had some heavy showers this visit. Not that we were bothered about the weather we did our usual drink coffee in the little bars in the village and visited Bol for the day which has a stunning beach. Went to Supertar for lunch and ate in the village. Eating in is also a delight right next to the sea at the cotage, what better view could you ask for when your cooking a couple of steaks on the bbq ( from the local butcher in the village) and preparing a salad washed down with some croatian rose wine .. Stephen and Thea are always helpful and perfect hosts. They also have a stunning apartment in Split which is perfect if you want a multi stay vacation. This year we hired a speed boat and the skipper took us to the blue cave, the green cave and the blue lagoon. We had a perfect day exploring some of the other croatian islands. We visited a gorgeous iskand called Vlaka (Hvar) and had the most delicious home cooked lunch with home made wine at Pension Tonci Sveti Klement. The owners grow their own vegtables . It was the most perfect experience. We hired the boat from a rental company in Bol and paid extra for him to collect us from Postira. However you can contact rental companies from split or there are companies in the village that can organise for you. Or you can get a taxi to Bol and take a boat from there. Its a full day out so take warm clothing and swim wear cause the trip across the sea can be chilly. Already booked for 2017. Thank you for another perfect holiday Lisa and Gordon

Best place we stayed in Croatia. Location on sea was fabulous and house in great condition.

The house is wonderfully located just meters from the sea which is only possible because the Aegean does not have much of a tide. The outside porch has great views to the mainland and is situated such that fabulous sun sets can be watched every evening. Al Fresco dining on the porch is so nice that it became one of our nicest memories. The house is on three levels and is very well maintained. The owner took an old fisherman's house in disrepair and renovated it to a high standard. The views from the rooms, including the bathrooms, are great. To get to the house one has to go down one of two steep and narrow roads that can be challenging if another car is coming from the opposite direction. There is no parking at the house per se but a public parking space is available a couple hundred feet down the road. From the house one walks into town a short distance down the street. A small grocery story is also available quite close to the house. The neighboring houses are in need of repair - like this one used to be - but this is hardly noticeable due to the fact that all of the houses are very old stone houses that look much the same. One neighbor, an elderly lady, likes to stick her head over the fence and talk to you in Croatian. She apparently doesn't quite get the idea that conversation requires both parties to understand the same language. Postira is a nice but quiet town as is the island of Brac itself. It would not necessarily be great for those seeking the party life but is a fabulous place for peace and quiet, some R&R and enjoying Croatian island life.

Stunning Views

We arrived late on a Saturday evening after a late flight. We were met by Ivan and Marina in Split who had purchased our ferry tickets and arranged a taxi from Supetar to Postira and passed on lots of information regarding our stay. The property is well maintained and very clean with everything you need for a comfortable stay with stunning views from the terrace to the mainland. We spent most of our time relaxing on the terrace and swimming in the clear sea. We visited the beautiful Lovrecina beach which is about twenty minutes walk from the property and the small Eco village of Dol which is the same distance. The bars and restaurants in Postira are five minutes walk from the property and we would recommend Konobu Gustirna and Konobu Kactus (across the road from Illyria). We would highly recommend this property and look forward to returning in the future to this beautiful location.

We are a British family who first fell in love with the beauty of Croatia in 2004. We bought this ruin of a fisherman's cottage because of its wonderful location right on the Adriatic sea. It has been a wonderful holiday destination for our family as well as the countless visitors we've hosted each year.

Why they chose this property

This property really does offer visitors the best a seaside holiday has to offer. It's perfectly located right on the water's edge. The Adriatic is wonderful for swimming with water temperatures at about 24 - 28 degrees Celsius in peak season. The cottage is located in a working fishing village environment where most inhabitants live directly from the land or sea

What makes this property unique

We are now able to offer guests a two stop holiday experience, with a fisherman's cottage on Brac and a luxurious inner city apartment ( sleeping ) in the heart of the roman Diocletian's palace in Split, see property no. 1300888. Also, in 2015 and in partnership with some very enthusiastic locals we set up Gecko Tours, based in Split, to showcase all that is very best about Dalmatia to offer guests a truly authentic view of the area and its culture. Guests of Illyria may be offered discounts on certain tours, so please ask.
