ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE HOUSE
The house has a little history which is nice to tell. My mother was married to Curd Jurgens for 19 years, before meeting my Greek father. Curd Jurgens was a quite famous Hollywood actor back in the days, playing in moves like ("Michel Strogoff", "The Inn of the sixth happiness", "Battle of Britain", "The spy who loved me", "The enemy below", "And God created Woman" and many more). When they separated, my mother bought this beautiful farmhouse and started renovating it with my father. Then I was born, and we lived there for 9 years. We’ve had many famous visitors, friends of my mother’s from the glamorous times when she was married to Curd. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, Maria Schell, Giacometti, Leonard Cohen, Romy Schneider, Herbert Von Karajan and many more came for a relaxed time in the Provence…

ABOUT THE HOUSE
La Madone is Eco friendly, which means we use only organic detergeants, organic soaps, organic disinfectants, No synthetic material, and the pool is cleaned by saline technology so it is chlorine free.
The house is a beautiful renovated provencal farmhouse, in the middle of 7ha of vineyards and fruit trees, completely isolated, with a private road to access the house and no neighbors.
As both my parents were artists, the house is done the way they wanted it, simple, comfortable, rustique and with a lot of character.
The house is 380sqm and has 6 provencal style double bedrooms, some with fireplace in the rooms, all 6 with ensuite bathrooms and WC.
There is also 1 bedroom with bunk beds for children, and another office-library room, next to the master bedroom, just under the roof with 2 single beds. From this room you can access the small terrace on the roof with a beautiful 360 degree view across the vineyards and Roussillon village.
There is an extra studio that is available at an extra cost if you are a big family, that can sleep 2 people.

The sauna has a small room, very fresh, excellent for siestas.
The living room is a 100sqm space, with high Provençal ceiling, and a very large fireplace. The kitchen is fully equipped, with professional gas stove and 2 professional ovens, 2 refrigerators, 1 freezer, microwave, 2 dishwashers etc. HI-FI with CD player + ipod input, Cable TV, Fast WIFI internet, DVD player.
The inside dining room seats 14-16 people comfortably. The outside table seats also 14-16 people. You can enjoy the morning sun having your breakfast on the outside table, with the view on the garden and on the valley.
The terrace is a great place to relax during the day and/or have an “aperitif” before dinner.
There is also an outside table and a built-in barbecue, ideal for a great lunch and barbecue cooking. Bbq table sits also 14-16 people.
The garden in front of the house is great for the children. A Table tennis is also available, and a court to play "Petanque", the national sport of the South of France!
The swimming pool is salt technology, so chlorine free. It can be heated if requested. It is a large swimming pool - 14m long and 6 meter large, and great space around the pool to relax, with benches with mattresses and teak lounge chairs. There is also a stone table at the pool, with a metal built roof for the shade, great for a little lunch around the pool.
The cellar is also at your disposal, with our sommelier's selection of beautiful regional and French reds, whites and rosés. The temperature is between 14-17 and the humidity is at 75%, which is ideal for keeping wines! We call it the honesty bar, meaning you take what you want, and leave the corresponding amount on the table. We trust you!
Some great activities are available, such as professional masseur, pottery courses, cycling rentals, horse riding, hot air balloon rides and many other activities can be arranged in advance.
Cooking services are also available, (Nadege is probably, and without joke one of the best private chefs in the region, she cooks beautifully, and uses organic products from local markets, cheese from the traiteur “Gouin” in Coustellet, meat from the best butcher in the region called “Isnard” in Goult, fresh fish that come every week from Marseille, I do recommend her for a few dinners, you will remember me! and I also recommend her Tarte Tatin for dessert!).
Cooking lessons with Nadege are great too. Our past guests have absolutely loved the experience!
Christine is also a great sommelier, and she can come and give you a wine tasting with explanation in all the processes of making wine. A great experience too! And with Nadege they often combine their strength and offer a super nice lunch or dinner.

ABOUT THE REGION
Roussillon is classified as one of the most beautiful villages of France. It is in the middle of the Provence, in the Luberon. It is well known for its red ocred canyons. The village has many restaurants, cafes, a castle, an art gallery, souvenir shops, pottery shops, and all the houses are red coloured by the ocres, as you can see on the photo in the site. There is also a supermarket, grocery store, a pharmacy, a post office, a very good butcher, a cash dispenser and a very nice farmer's market and delicatessen market every Wednesday. The house is 900m (0.55 miles) from Roussillon.
Beautiful villages are few kilometers away from the house. Villages such as Gordes (known for the stone houses and the Vasarély Museum), Menherbes, Goult, Bonnieux, Lacoste (with the Marquis de Sade's castle), Buoux, Baux de Provence, Lourmarin, Isle-sur-la Sorgue (with the internationally famous antique market on Sundays, don't miss it!), Fontaine de Vaucluse (with its 100 feet deep water spring), Eygalières et les Alpilles (with the famous Chappelle St-Sixte), Saint-Remy de Provence (where Nostradamus, Van-Gogh and princess Caroline de Monaco now lives!), Sainte Maries de la mer et la Camargue (The beach!), Avignon (le palais des papes, le pont d’Avignon, le festival d’Avignon in July) Arles (and the “Arènes d’Arles” for bull fighting supporters) and many other beautiful landscapes and villages to see. What a wonderful stay. We had the best week and so sad to have to leave. Lots to see near by, and a beautiful home to come back to. The pool was fabulous and we lived in it every afternoon! Nadege was amazing and cooked a beautiful meal for us and was so welcoming and so helpful. I really hope we will come back again.

Amazing week

We had such a wonderful week here - age range 6 months to 70. We loved the house and gardens, and the pool was conveniently out of sight which made managing the children easier than we thought (they also have a pool alarm installed). Nadege the housekeeper was wonderfully welcoming and an incredible cook, it would be a mistake to miss out on one of her home cooked meals!

Week in the Luberon

As a large family group from 6 months to 65+ it was always going to be hard to find the perfect house. However Yvans house was the closest we have ever found. The pool area, seating, indoors and out, the kitchen and location near enough to walk in to Roussilon could not have been bettered. Our great thanks must also go out to Nadege who manages the property completely unobtrusively but was available to cook a delicious dinner for 14 people people.

Perfect Wedding, Ventoux and friends at La Madone

La Madone was the perfect setting to bring our best friends (14) from around the globe to celebrate both our marriage and our love of cycling with wonderful backdrop of Mont Ventoux. Nadège is a wonderful housekeeper and helped us in so many ways, from our wedding cake to dry cleaning and vegan food, she was so passionate about our visit being perfect. La Madone is so spacious our guests never felt too cosy and mixed weather gave us the opportunity to use the huge sofas to read from a great bookcase and play games... We never ate dinner away from the house, we used the outdoor eating areas every day and the kitchen facilities were outstanding. In summary, a perfect spot for a group of friends or family with different agendas and we were all emotional when we left... #teamepic, we hope to come back for an anniversary soon ❤️ Thank you Nadege and Yvan

A lovely spacious farmhouse, artistically furnished, and perfect for an extended family holiday.

We have just returned from a lovely holiday at La Madone. The house and accommodation and the pool and garden were perfect for our extended family reunion. We were ten adults and five children under seven and we had a really happy week together. The pool for us was a highlight of the week. It is attractive, spacious, and well furnished with loungers. We were initially concerned about safety with so many small children but the pool is slightly out of sight and away from the rest of the garden and so going to it was 'an event', and it was easy to supervise and provided many hours of fun. We loved the pizza oven and enjoyed the number of outdoor tables for eating in different and lovely parts of the patios and garden! Nadège cooked for us for three of the evenings and that was a real treat. It's not a cheap option but the cooking is excellent and Nadege provided delicious food and generous quantities. The house is much more extensive than the photos can show, and there are bedrooms off a number of different areas which allows for plenty of choice. We would love to return sometime!

A totally charming property which lived up to every expectation.

La Madone was the perfect venue for Kate & David's wedding blessing ceremony and reception (legally married in Cartmel Priory England two weeks previously). We rented the property for two weeks; the wedding being on the middle Saturday. The farmhouse and studio easily accommodated 20 - the bride and groom, both sets of parents, both brothers, 3 bridesmaids and partners, the best man and several close family members. This is a very spacious property with a beautiful traditional provencale ambience. All guests were delighted with their rooms some of which are en-suite. The exterior seating areas and pool (spotlessly clean) provide a wonderful selection of both shaded areas and opportunities to enjoy the sun. Despite there being so many of us we never felt on top of each other. There is provision for exterior dining for many people and the kitchen and equipment provided more than adequately catered for all of our needs. The proximity of Apt with its local market, supermarket and wine merchants was a great asset. La Madone was an incredible setting for the wedding. The ceremony was held within the vineyard with stunning views of the hills beyond. Guests were thrilled and amazed as they were welcomed through the archway into the garden area where eight large tables (seating 70) with traditional provencale decorations were set around a tree on the lawn. Following the champagne reception a wonderful barbeque was prepared and served by Gerald Konings, an extremely talented local chef and his team. We were entertained by an incredibly charismatic band, the Troubadours, who visited every table and engaged all of the guests and started the evening's dancing. Clark, a very talented local DJ took over the music and dance floor until the early hours. We would like to sincerely thank Nadege for her invaluable assistance beforehand in sourcing the suppliers and advising on the practicalities of the event. This was a truly amazing experience for all of those involved. We shall all treasure our memories of our summer at La Madone in 2017.

Paradise!

Just back from a really fantastic stay. Beautifully situated, with gloriously pretty garden and stunning countryside views! Fabulous choice of outside sitting and dining areas, lovely big pool. Everything so well thought out, even the BBQ is set against the wind. Great kitchen with plenty of space, lovely bedrooms. Nadege is so friendly and makes you feel so welcome, encouraging you to really feel at home. Lots of sports bits and pieces provided, including inflatables for the pool and pool towels. We were a group of 17, including 9 kids, and it was truly perfect for us. Invigorating 20 minute walk up to beautiful Roussillon, but it's an easy drive if you prefer. Perfectly situated for beautiful hilltop villages like Gordes and Bonnieux as well as Isle sur la Sorgue and Fontaine de Vaucluse where we canoed. Big Leclerc supermarket in nearby Apt. Would absolutely recommend and would love to come back!!!

Abolutely MAGICAL

La Madone is absolutely magical. I pinched myself every single morning that I was there. The house, the flowers, the location, NADEGE- everything is spectacular!!!! It is truly like a little piece of Heaven on earth. We cannot thank you enough for sharing your beautiful home with us. We had a large group with ages 2 (my daughter) to 77ish, and the property was perfectly accommodating for every age. Nadege met our every need- she is just wonderful. I would not change a SINGLE thing. Every guest that came to visit said, "how did you FIND this place?" No one could believe its beauty. It was truly the trip of a lifetime, which is exactly what my 8 year old son, Wyatt, said when were leaving. We all cried leaving Nadege and La Madone. I feel like we have a friend for life. We will definitely be returning!!!!!

This farmhouse was beyond perfect!

La Madonne was magical and beyond our expectation! The layout was wonderful for our group of 16 so that there was a variety of places to sit and relax or eat. The location was great - close to Rousillon, lavender fields everywhere and great for biking (Luberon biking had high quality bikes delivered to us). The property was very well maintained - the outside gardens and flowers lovely and the pool so refreshing. The kitchen had everything we needed to make our meals and store all our food - and the outdoor pizza oven and grill were awesome. Nadege was warm and helpful, and Yvan was charming and available by email to answer any questions. We give La Madonne the highest recommendation. We'd go back in a heartbeat!!

Perfect college mini-reunion at La Madone

La Madone was the perfect venue for our mini-reunion of college friends. The property was spectacular and in a location allowing us to enjoy daily excursions to markets in nearby towns/villages, a wine tasting tour on the Rhone River, and hiking and biking in the beautiful countryside. The beautiful hilltop town of Roussillon is just a 20 minute walk from the property with shops, galleries, a great market, make sure to try the delicious glace. Nadege, who was on site managing La Madone, was AMAZING. She helped us in advance with dinner recommendations and reservations as we were a group of 12. We enjoyed 4 superb dinners al fresco in courtyards surrounded with flowers, under the plane trees, and on a patio overlooking the River Sorgue. She prepared three dinners in for us with great variety and skill using only the best organic, local ingredients. I am still dreaming of her cherry caflouti, apricot tart, and much more. A beautifully curated wine cellar was just steps away where we helped ourselves to wonderful local wine and simply entered our purchases in a wine log. We felt that La Madone was a great value and would recommend it to friends and family without reservation. The property was immaculate and well maintained. Yvan, the property owner, was most responsive and helpful in suggesting activities and restaurants. We hope to return some day soon! La Madone holds a place in our hearts

Firstly, wow! The weekend was one of the most magical weekends of our lives (actually the most magical). The house exceeded all expectations and more, you can't capture just how magnificent the house and grounds until you are actually stood amongst them. The day we arrived we were greeted by the Blue Arrows the french Air Force doing a display (did Vanya arrange that?) :$ Over our 4 days we watched Roussillon and La Madone come into bloom as we couldn't have asked for better weather it was perfect. Cannot fault the place at all. Nadege was absolutely incredible, her meal was devine and she was always very helpful. Thanks again for sharing your home with us and allowing us to create memories for the 40+ persons who attended. We will never forget that weekend and would also love to book it in for our 10yr wedding anniversary. We will forever hold La Madone close to our hearts - We have just booked it for our 10 yr wedding anniversary in 2025 Chris and Sophie

Surpassed Expectations

La Madone surpassed all of our expectations! The location is just perfect, nestled close to the quaint town of Roussillon. Easily walk to the town for food, sightseeing or shopping. Easily drive to the many other beautiful areas of Luberon. PERFECT! And the actual farmhouse and property is beyond stunning. We thoroughly enjoyed days just staying at the property, enjoying the huge grounds, lovely pool, vineyard and space. We were totally relaxed and fell in love with the magical beauty of the grounds and the house. Specifics: There were 14 of us, all adults. We used the entire home plus added on the studio. We all were very happy with our accommodations. The house was spacious and felt very magical. It has such a great history too. We would cook there all together each night and eat together on the huge table on the patio outside. We used the pool mostly, but we did enjoy the sauna one of the nights. That was a plus. The owner and caretaker are very responsive and caring. They have lots of information to share and such great energy. Relaxing, helpful, caring - pure Provence hospitality.

Perfect home in an idyllic setting!

I cannot say enough about our stay at La Madone. We were a group of 17 business mates (6 couples, 5 singles) and could not have been happier with the farmhouse. There was plenty of space, both public for our meetings and private for when anyone needed peace, and the home was perfectly charming and spotless. The facilities all worked precisely as advertised, though it was chilly enough that most of us didn't get a chance to partake in what looked like a lovely swimming pool. (The bathrooms/showers are very typical of what we found in Europe; if you're expecting full shower glass or high water pressure, you might be disappointed. It was little more than a point of curiosity for us, though, and not at all a problem!) The location is perfect as well, as it is well within walking distance of Roussillon. (While it is a short walk, it can be a touch steep; it's worth making at least once, but if you're out of shape, you might drive into town on subsequent occasions!) It's also very easy access to the myriad little villages dotting the Luberon forest, making La Madone an excellent place from which to start your explorations. The housekeeper and manager, Nadège, was brilliant, cooking meals for us and providing useful information (like her recommendation to attend the Vespers service at Abbaye Notre-Dame de Sénanque in nearby Gordes). She always had a delicious cheese tray at the ready, and sourced all of her food locally from organic farmers. The quality of the food and the heart she put into it really shined through, as she prepared some of the best meals we've ever tasted. Vanya, the owner of La Madone, was brilliant as well. He made reservations for us at a couple of places before we were in-country, which can be daunting for 17 people in a caravan! His recommendations were all outstanding and his help preparing for our trip made it so easy on the rest of us. I would heartily recommend La Madone for any business or family group looking to explore the Luberon forest or just get away from it all. It made for an absolutely stunning getaway, one about which our employees will be talking for years to come!

Wonderful Week in Provence

We had a great week at La Modone. We five couples enjoyed the beautiful house and privacy of the grounds. The only sounds to be heard in the evening were the birds and the wind in the trees. The furnishings were very comfortable. The weather was so nice we spent little time inside and found the patio a perfect place to relax after spending our days exploring the region. The pool was great! It's big enough to actually swim some laps and was a comfortable temperature all week. A great place to relax by pool side even if you didn't get in. We cooked on the grill outside and used the oven and stove inside all which worked well. One adventurous couple even used the outdoor baking oven for fresh pizza one night. Several mornings we took the uphill walk to Roussillon for morning croissants and other Boulangerie items. The local markets and store in Apt provided all the fresh ingredients we needed for our nightly feasts. The owner met us on arrival and showed us around and the caretaker made sure we had everything we needed during the week and gave us good advice and places to visit. A GREAT place to relax and super home base for exploring the area.

Group of 6 families with small children

We were 6 families (12 adults) with 8 small children (age 1-3). The property and house was very nice and well suitable for our needs. It was a bit of a puzzle getting all the families fitting in with their children in the same rooms, since the size of the rooms vary a bit, but with adding the extra apartment (the studio), it worked fine! The house was equiped with 3 baby cots and 2 high chairs, suitable for the smallest. All 6 families had their own bathroom which was a very big plus, all of us having small children. We recieved excellent service (in fluent english) from both the owner and the caretaker. The house was cleaned twice during the week, the towels could have been changed once during the week, but otherwise we were satisfied. The children loved running around and playing in the garden. The pool temperature was guite cold in the beginning, especially for the children, but warmed up somewhat during our stay, but May had also been colder than usually. During our stay (first week in June) the weather was however very nice. The pool alarm did not react to the children jumping in, but you should not leave children out of sight anyway. A fence around the pool is obviously the optimal solution for families with small children, but we managed fine with the current solution. The location was great, close to the beautiful town Roussillon, with other nice towns close by for day trips. I can highly recommend newly baked croissants and baguettes from the local Boulangerie for breakfast (if buying larger quantities, they however appreciate informing them in forehand). The facilities were all in all even better than expected based on the pictures and description, and I would gladly recommend it for other groups!

Superb weekend at La Madone, October 2012

We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary with friends and family-in all 14 adults, and 6 children aged between 4 and 10 years old-at La Madone. Everyone without exception was simply enchanted by the property. The rooms , all with en-suite bathrooms were very clean and very comfortable, the vast living room was welcoming with its cosy sitting areas and the enormous fireplace which lit up our evenings of song, dance, laughter and great food. The semi-professional kitchen was home to our chef for the weekend, the lovely Lesley who provided a scrumptious welcome dinner on Friday night and layed out a superb spread of organic food for the party on saturday night. We ate, drank and were merry. Apero was outdoors. Indoors we set out the convivial dining table for the grown ups and the kids had their own corner. We took beautiful souvenir pictures by the fire. Nothing about the weekend would have worked without the help of Vanya, the owner of the house. From the first contact with him, we knew we had found our home for the weekend. He opened his address book to us. He never once treated our rental like a business transaction, rather welcoming us like old friends. We considered him a friend even before we physically met. Thank you so so much Vanya for everything. Nadege is an angel. She organised the chefs, helped devise the menu, ordered all the special foods we wanted in advance including our celebratory cake which did not last 10 minutes on the table. So good was it! We did not have the pleasure of meeting Nadege but we have mutually agreed that will be rectified before long. We used the property to the fullest. The kids ran througout the grounds in all security, playing hide and seek, table tennis and some braved the pool in mid-october. We walked to Rousillon, we picked grapes from the vines, we took a trip to the market in Apt where we came back heavy laden with local treats and cheeses. Some of the group went to Isle-sur-la sorgue round the corner. We can't say enough about the location of the house. So convenient. Most of our group had driven from Geneva, Switzerland -a little less than 4 hours away. Those who travelled from London flew into Marseilles and drove the hour to the house all in time for dinner. Our only regret? That we did not stay longer but we will most certainly return. Thanks Vanya, thanks Nadege for providing the most important element in our celebrations-La Madone. A bientôt!

Terrific rental house

Our group of five couples had a wonderful stay at La Madonne in June, 2012. We were quite pleased with the rooms as each had its own bathroom. The eating area outside was extremely pleasant as was the dining room inside. We were a group of good cooks and found the kitchen unusually well equipped for serious cooking, with two stoves, two refrigerators, many serving pieces, copious silverware, and abundant cooking utensils. When we saw the Weber kettle barbeque, we knew that ours would be a great stay. The pool was delightful, well situated and very clean. We never used the sauna but did hook up our little ipod to the music system to play our own music. We would recommend this rental.
