About this property

Secluded Villa, Private Heated Pool, Sea Views, Outside Terraces & Dining Areas

Villa Description
Tastefully restored to its former glory as the summer retreat of the Mayor of Fasano, this extremely spacious luxury villa offers contemporary living to the very highest standard. Set in 2 acres of secluded terraced gardens, Villa Francesca is perched on the edge of the Selva hills 400m above sea level and benefits from uninterrupted views over the olive groves to the sea beyond. Enclosing this stunning villa is an expansive south facing L shaped veranda with traditional stone arches, perfect for relaxing in the Puglian sunshine or dining ‘al fresco’ Italian style. The fully air conditioned interior offers an incredible 40 ft open plan living area inter-connected by stone arches with stone floors, chic Italian leather sofas, marble dining table seating 10 people, masseria-style stone fireplace, marble bathroom with jacuzzi. The private heated swimming pool set in an enclosed garden courtyard has paved terraces offering multiple living & dining areas with spectacular sea views.

General: Puglia gets close to 300 days sunshine a year with the warm weather starting in April and going right through until the end of October. The hottest months are July and August but with two seas around the area the air does not feel too oppressive during these months, especially as the property is located above the coastal plain. Spring and autumn is glorious- sunny and warm with wild flowers in abundance. Italians are unashamedly devoted to celebrating everything Italian - religion, food, wine... And they show it with festivals, filling the summer nights, celebrating everything from classical music to grapes. These family orientated events provide great free outdoor entertainment and gives you an insight into the wonderful hospitable Pugliese people. Puglia is something authentically Mediterranean and very Italian, come and find out for yourself and see why more people are recommending it.

Activities: Whether you prefer soaking up the sun, shopping, sightseeing, enjoying culture or something more active, the area has much to offer. Beautiful architecture, ancient castles and Baroque churches can be found in all the local towns and eating is an activity in itself as the region is a food and wine lovers paradise . With over 400 miles of coastline, Puglia has a huge selection of sandy beaches and coves (all of which have blue flag status). For golfers Puglia has five major courses. The 5* 18 hole par 72 San Domenica Golf resort and spa near the fishing village of Savelettri, is the closest (just 7km) and newest. For children there are lidos with children's facilities, and a major tourist attraction is the Zoo Safari Park of Fasano. For classical music lovers there is the famous Itria Valley Festival in Martina Franca towards the end of July, and the newly-reopened Bari Opera house is fantastic. All sorts of music and theatre festivals abound in the summer in the nearby towns.

Distances and other information: Under 50 minutes -Bari Airport. Under 40 minutes - Brindisi Airport. 10 - 15 minutes - Alberobello, Locorotondo, Fasano/Zoo Safari, beaches. 15 -25 minutes- Martina Franca, Ostuni, Polignano al Mare, Castellana Grotte, the ancient site of Egnazia and the Marine Nature reserve of Torre Guacheto. Further afield, but all making easy day trips - Matera, a town of 13th century cave dwellings, the 'sassi' used in the film 'The Passion' , and churches with medieval wall frescoes - Lecce, famous for its unique architecture and known as the 'Florence of the South' - the Norman cathedral towns of the Bari coast - Laterza, the 'Grand Canyon of Puglia' - Taranto, with its atmospheric historical centre - the list goes on... We do recommend that you hire a car to ensure you explore the area and get the most from your Puglia holiday, this is easy to arrange in advance from the airports.

Further notes on accommodation: Villa Francesca is a 250sqm independent villa set in its own garden with its own private drive accessed through electric gates and its own private swimming pool and private outside entertainment areas. Due to its spectacular hillside location, the villas in the area are necessarily arranged on terraces which means that there is another villa with its own postal address and separate access arrangements, part of which is indeed situated directly below (and connected to) Villa Francesca. This is actually a very typically layout for this part of Italy and can be seen clearly from some of the photos included on the website.

Great villa with awesome heated pool and views

Spacious, comfortable, well equipped, clean villa located in the hills about 15-20 mins from the coast with breathtaking views over to the coast. We enjoyed relaxing in and around the pool, trips to local historic towns and cities - Martina Franca, Ostuni and others. A trip to the zoo safari was a highlight for the kids. Host was brilliant - very helpful in terms of suggestions, sorted a couple of very minor issues arising immediately. I thoroughly recommend the villa and the region.

Absolutely beautiful villa

Such a lovely villa. The interior is beautiful and well appointed, and the view astonishing. Maura is an excellent host; very friendly and helpful. The villa is well located, within an easy 30 min drive of many of the key sights in Puglia and 1.5 hours from Matera. The heated swimming pool was much loved by the kids (and us). The TV was very close to the kids’ bedrooms so bear in mind if you want to watch TV after they go to bed but it was not an issue for us as we preferred to sit outside and enjoy the view (except when the final episode of Succession was broadcast and we were delighted to realise that the villa has Sky TV so we didn’t have to wait to watch it). We like travelling to different places, but this was such a stunning villa and a lovely area with so much to do that we will definitely be back! Thanks Maura.

Beautiful villa stunning views

The whole family (6 adults and 1 3yr old) had a lovely time at Villa Francesca. Maura very knowledgeable and helpful. I was unaware that we had to pay to heat the pool but maybe this wouldn’t be necessary earlier in the season.

Wonderful place for a family holiday

We stayed with our kids and a set of grandparents - everyone had a great time. The property is excellent for a family holiday, with plenty of space for relaxing or playing and a great location for exploring the local area. The pool is fantastic for all ages and much fun was had there. Having so many areas to sit, relax and eat is brilliant; the views from everywhere really add to that experience too. Cooking facilities are excellent, including the BBQ area. We particularly appreciated the second fridge in the utility area, which was handy for wine and beer! Maura's help and advice really contributed to making our holiday so enjoyable. Nothing was ever too much bother and and requests or queries were actioned very promptly (both before the holiday and during). She provides great advice on the local area, places to eat etc. One important thing to note is that there is a good supermarket a very short drive from the villa, which is extremely handy, plus the little shop at the bottom of the hill does wonderful bread. Being up in the hills not only provides extraordinary views but means you often have a nice breeze to keep you cool. The air-conditioning is also great and we always felt very comfortable in the villa. The lane leading up to the villa is indeed quite bumpy and twisty but we managed it in a massive 9-seater vehicle, so don't let it put you off. We would also recommend the cook-in chef option, which we had one night and was a lovely experience. Overall, this is a fantastic place to stay for a family holiday and we would highly recommend it.

Beautiful villa with incredible views!

Excellent experience from start to finish. Maura was really responsive to email enquiries before the trip, extremely helpful and on hand with lots of useful info about the local area, without being at all intrusive. The villa is beautiful - spotlessly clean, comfortably air-conditioned and with plenty of space for a family, but the highlight for us was the outdoor areas! The views are just stunning - the photos don’t do it justice! From swimming in the lovely, warm pool (having a heated pool really does make a difference if you have children that don’t like cold water!) with those views, to lunch on the terrace enjoying a mild breeze it really was a truly relaxing week. There is plenty to explore in the local area - ideal for a family holiday. We love this part of Italy (this was our third visit) and Villa Francesca is certainly the best villa we have stayed in so far. We have definitely found somewhere we hope to return to!

Wonderful holiday!

Superb villa with fabulous facilities and in a truly fantastic location from which to explore Puglia. One of the very best properties we have rented - anywhere! Highly professional and outstanding support throughout from Maura whose services were simply first-class. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she went out of her way to make our party feel welcome. Our party of 8 (two families with teenagers) had a wonderful holiday in an amazing villa. We look forward to returning very soon.

Stunning Location

We had a fabulous 9 days in Villa Francesca and wanted to stay for another 9! The house is lovely, very well equipped and comfortable, but it is the amazing location that makes it perfect. The views from the multiple terraces really are as good as shown in the photos and it is wonderful to eat outside with such an amazing backdrop. Maura was extremely helpful and also provided a huge welcome basket which was very gratefully received after a long journey. This was our fourth time in Puglia and we love being in this area as there are so many places to explore right on your doorstep and the people are so friendly.

Trulli trulli scrumptious!

Villa Francesca is perfection. We loved the huge jacuzzi bath, exquisite pool, far reaching views, eating on the terrace(s), massive range of lighting options, mammoth clean windows, effective shutters, thoughtful range of novels, DVDs & games, the Lonely Planet guidebook, the Smeg fridge & cooker, the quality towels & loungers, the variety of seating indoor & out, the well-maintained driveway, the secure electronic gates. Cinzia, the warm, charming & talented private chef, cooked for us on the first & last nights - what a terrific treat & experience, we can’t recommend her enough. We loved the surrounding, idyllic neighbourhood and seeing how authentic Puglians live. There is life everywhere - olive trees, fruit groves, wildflowers, lizards, scenic trulli, winding roads, young and old Italians. We did day trips to: Locorotondo (beautiful. And great drinks, fresh doughnuts and friendly service at the Pasticceria) Alberobello (very picturesque, a high concentration of trulli) Monte San Angelo (stunning drive up the mountain, important Catholic pilgrimage site, a church in a cave, great café near the Sanctuary) Matera (JAW DROPPING!!!!! And drive across to Belverdere - instructions in the Lonely Planet - for even more awe-inspiring views. Really, these are ‘pinch me’ scenes. And hike down the gorge too, we loved it, we followed an apparent dead-end dirt track from just in front of the monastery, bordered on the right by olive trees - find the rough details in the Lonely Planet) Pogliano A Mare (friendly, close, pretty town; even better from the water) Pompeii (3.5hrs drive one-way, but the ancient site is very beautiful, and very atmospheric) Back to Villa Francesca - When you arrive it is as if you are the very first people to ever have been there. Maura provides a great welcome pack (butter, tea, coffee, bread, washing up liquid etc) & useful arrival instructions. Her information on Sights & Sites is something to print & keep in your car. There is *nothing* to complain about. The road is bumpy, but we managed it daily in a big 9-seater van; if you want to stay in ancient Puglia scattered with trulli, then of course the roads won’t be major. If you’re a v sensitive sleeper bring mask/plugs. The water pressure is very good, the bathrooms lovely, the storage plentiful, the chill out spots numerous. The whole place is an experience, so charming, vivacious & characterful. If you don’t like this Villa, maybe you don’t like Italy...or life.

Beautiful villa in beautiful Italy

We ( a family of 5) had a wonderful holiday. The villa is absolutely beautiful with an amazing view. We spent a lovely day at White Beach, recommend by Maura ( the villa manager ), the sea was lovely and clear and warm 😁. Maura also recommend lots of places to visit. We went to several towns all of which were beautiful. We will definitely be going back 😁

A great place in a great region!

We spent a week in Villa Francesca during July 2016. In this case, "we" means a family of five, including parents and 3 young adults. The house is clearly very well maintained. It is extremely clean, spacious and comfortable. It is fitted with sober, quality furniture, as depicted on the website. Instructions on how to use the various appliances (air conditioning, etc.) and the house in general are extremely well laid out in a manual that one is well advised to review in detail upfront. We enjoyed the opportunity of the terraces available to eat outdoors, the large barbecue and of course the pool with a magic view overlooking the olive groves and the Adriatic sea a little further away! We very much appreciated the welcome hamper and the leave behind document offering useful tips on the many points of interest nearby (e.g. Locorontondo, Ostuni, Alberobello, Polignano a Mare, Egnazia, etc.). All communications with Maura Watson were fluent prior, during and post the rental process. During our stay, we had a small problem with the water boiler, but this was fixed without delay while we were away. We would certainly return and definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives.

A gem of a find . . .

We have just spent a fantastic two weeks at Villa Francesca. The luxury villa is spacious, tastefully furnished, decorated and spotlessly clean. The internal and external layouts are very well thought out with a choice of verandas and terraces to while away the hours. The villa is set in a peaceful location but within easy distance of the various towns and coast. A well stocked supermarket is nearby. There are so many good restaurants to choose from, you are spoilt for choice. Maura, who manages the property, is warm and welcoming, very helpful and has an abundance of knowledge about the area. We were sad to leave and could quite happily return at the drop of a hat. Jo and Mick.

A Fabulous Holiday Home!

We have just spent the most wonderful 2 weeks at Villa Francesca. We are a family of 4 with 2 children aged 3 and 5. The grandparents came out to share the first week with us then we had some friends for a few days of the second week. The weather was hot and glorious every day so we made full use of the pool with its breath-taking views of the sea, the Selva hills and the town of Fasano. The pool was lovely and warm and it's large shallow end made the perfect play area for the kids. We had BBQs most nights but tended to have lunches out at the many beautiful and nearby towns and villages. We went to the Cocorra Beach Club twice as the kids loved the white sandy beaches and the lovely shallow warm water. We also visited a local water park and some nearby caves. It was a wonderful holiday and Villa Francesca provided the perfect base in terms of its location and the comfort factor. We loved sitting out on the various terraces and it is very handy for nearby supermarkets. Maura extended us a warm welcome and was helpful and accommodating. We would definitely recommend the villa and Puglia. We loved it! Nadia, Phil, Joey and Lara Wilkinson

Beautiful villa especially the outdoor areas which have some fantastic views. We loved having our BBQ's outside in the evening. The villa is very well looked after and we loved all the fluffy towels there. On our last night we hired a chef to come to the villa which was wonderful.

Fantastico

The villa accommodated us family of five for two weeks. It is open and very spacious and all on one living level .. Every amenity is catered for including a very friendly and caring agent called Maura.... The villa is set up on hillside with wonderful far reaching views ...the location is tranquil and secluded ... You will need a car to venture out ... The pool is delightfully warm and maintained to a high standard with none of that horrid chlorine residue. The villa caters very well for family or romantic getaways .. Thank you Maura for taking your time to make sure everything was as it should be.. From the Drake family .

A high quality Villa in a spectacular position

Along with another couple we booked a one week holiday based on the recommendation of my daughter who had stayed there in 2013. Whilst the Villa itself lived up to her recommendation in terms of the high standard of furnishing, due to the extreme weather conditions we experienced we were unable to fully appreciate either the views or take full advantage of either the private pool or terraces. Due to an electric storm we lost all power at one point (emergency lighting came on) and we cannot speak too highly of Maura who sorted out the resultant problems and organised an electrician who was with us in a couple of hours. It should be stressed that the weather, storms. heavy rain etc are not typical of the area at this time and we were just unlucky. The Villa itself is well situated for visiting both the coast and the many interesting small towns which frequent the area - the Trulli houses are a must visit as is Pouligny-sur-Mar. Then only minor criticism we would make is that the Villa is advertised as having two luxury bathrooms. The reality is that it has one luxury bathroom which is "shared" by the two main bedrooms and a shower room , however this as we say is a minor criticism and did not detract from the holiday

Modern, well equipped, and beautiful!

We had the most fantastic family reunion at Villa Francesca! The young people totally enjoyed the pool and beach. There were also plenty of things to see and do for the whole family on short day trips. We cooked almost all of our meals at the villa, and the kitchen and dining area were perfect for our group - roomy and well equipped. We just loved our holiday and the chance to enjoy such a beautiful house. And thanks to Maura for making us so comfortable!

The perfect holiday

We wanted a relaxing holiday in the sunshine and that's exactly what we got. the villa was situated on the hillside which provided breathtaking views of the landscape to the coast. The villa it's self was of very high standard and the welcome pack left by Maura was very welcome indeed. Maura was extremely helpful and provided information of local towns and villages to visit. We would certainly recommend this villa to family and friends and would love to return at some point in the future. The fletcher family Sunderland

A very special place

Staying at Villa Francesca near Fasano in Puglia, the far south of Italy, is a real privilege. To wake every morning to far reaching views from a mountainside over ancient olive groves, stretching to the Adriatic coast with its blue and turquoise waters, is very special. Indeed the villa is a very special place – modern and spacious with beautiful furniture, marble floors and bathrooms, in an idyllic hillside setting, with terraced gardens leading down to the pool. The only difficulty we encountered was in deciding which of the relaxing outside terraces to sit on for the next meal or glass of excellent local wine. I think our favourite was the shady terrace with rattan style armchairs and sofa, under the cherry tree laden with ripe, juicy cherries at this time in May. A dip in the pool after breakfast was exhilarating – a pool with a view! All in all a wonderful villa complete with Jacuzzi and the best bean-to-cup coffee machine we have yet encountered. Pure indulgent relaxation in a fascinating part of Italy. Go discover!

Luxurious luxury

Forrester’s returned from Villa Francesca and Puglia on the 18th August, having spent the first week of our holiday in Praiano. Forrester’s being Mum, Dad and three teenage boys! The villa certainly lived up to all expectations, the attention to detail, fixtures and fittings beautiful thick fluffy towels (and loads of them) gorgeous white bedding, all very 5 star!! Everything was clean bright and airy and comfortable for a leisurely holiday. The seating and dining area’s both inside and out were perfect, and we often enjoyed having our meals outside with the stunning views. The BBQ was a great favourite with us, so convenient and easy to use, Maura had organized charcoal, lighters and citronella candles to guard off the mosquitoes) for guests use. Not only a welcome pack left of ham cheese milk wine bread etc. but also in the utility room, washing liquid (laundry)was available and I don’t know how many toilet rolls in the cupboards ( I know we were in Italy on holiday, but who wants to trudge around buying toilet rolls !) The pool was fabulous, as was the views from the pool area. We tended to eat in and bought most of our food in the supermarket just down the road with lovely music playing in the car park. The local wine is amazing and can be bought in 3 litre canisters for 6 euros, as it is organic and without preservatives, there is no hangover! A great library of DVD’s (I know we were in Italy on the holidays but if you have teenager’s you will understand!) We visited Alberobella, Locorotonda and Matera all great visits especially Locorotonda very beautiful had a great lunch there, and Matera was awesome. We went to a small fishing village Maura recommended on the way to Bari and had a great sea food meal. We would without a doubt recommend this villa to anyone who loves luxury and luxurious surroundings. Being the only female, a quick retail therapy session was needed in Bari before our flight home for that Fendi handbag! I was in Italy you know!

Fabulous Villa in Ideal Location

It was our first time in Puglia. We were not disappointed. The villa was absolutely amazing as was everything about Puglia. Firstly, the villa was everything anybody could possibly want for a luxurious stay. My husband, daughters and I always stay in villas rather than hotels as we like the independence. This villa topped any in which we have stayed before. Elegant, clean and fully equipped. The gardens, terraces and swimming pool just perfect. The views were stunning. The villa is only 5 minutes drive to the nearest supermarket which has everything you need. The local area is very picturesque with the small Trulli houses dotted everywhere. We visited all the local towns of Alberobello, Locorotondo and Martina Franca to name but a few. All the local people are very friendly. The restaurants are very good value for money. Maura was very informative regarding places to eat and visit. We followed her advice and again were not disappointed. We spent our last day at the Torre Coccaro Beach Club which was fabulous. Definitely recommend for a day. After a lazy morning lounging on our sun beds by the sea we wandered up to the restaurant for a very delicious and relaxing lunch. We will definitely be coming back!

We fell in love with Puglia in 2005 for its fabulous food and perfect weather and the lovely old fortified masseria amidst the ancient olive trees and vineyards around Fasano. So when we heard that the mayor’s summer residence in the Selva hills above Fasano was coming on the market, we jumped in and bought it on the spot – and then spent five challenging years renovating it to the highest luxury standard for our own use. Recently, we have decided to make it available for others to enjoy as we do.

Why they chose this property

The most compelling reason for buying this property was the location. It is perched right on the edge of the hillside overlooking olive groves and has the most breathtaking panoramic sea view that you could never tire of. It is also very central and close to the hill towns - Alberobello, Martina Franca, Locorotondo - so there is always lots to do and see and a great choice of restaurants serving excellent food.

What makes this property unique

We wanted to create a beautiful holiday home to match the spectacular location. The sheer space and luxury throughout which includes full air conditioning, wi-fi, marble bathroom large heated swimming pool overlooking the sea, luxury linen, multiple outside entertainment and dining areas overlooking the pool and romantic gardens, makes it the perfect place to relax and unwind.
