Good value for money. Would sleep 6 but better 3 or 4 adults and 1 or 2 children. The water tower has no storage or space except for the 2 small beds. The dining rooms chairs should be replaced. They will break soon.Kitchen is extremely well set up. Very impressed with that.

Family

The cottage was lovely and spacious but the only thing that let it down in our opinion was the water tower was shown to look as if it was larger but it was very small but apart from that it was lovely Lovely walks and lovely pub

Beautiful cottage

The cottage is beautiful, since we stayed during a heatwave the amount of bugs was a bit too high but this has nothing to do with the property. We struggled to keep the rear doors open because of this. Very well located and the towns which we wanted to visit were all a few miles away by car.

beautiful cottage

The location suited our requirements, a quiet village within easy driving distances to numerous villages/towns in the Cotswolds. The cottage interior is lovely, high class comfortable furniture and supplied with everything you could possibly need for a short holiday and most importantly perfectly clean.

Nice but tired needs some TLC

Although the house was very well equipped and the bedding was great quality, on arrival there was bread, milk, biscuits and bottle of wine for one, we found a number of things wrong, generally the house needed updating and painting, the garden at the back was not fully enclosed, the gaps between the metal fencing was wide, a small/medium dog could get through, so we could not leave our dog outside on his own, the covering on the kitchen units was coming off, there was no free cabinet space for food supplies, garden furniture was very shoddy, it was hot but no parasol provided for shade, we asked for one to be supplied, but the owner said although he was aware there wasn’t one he couldn’t supply one as he didn’t live near, no offer to have one delivered, which he could have done via Amazon that would have been very much appreciated. We paid a lot of money for a 5days stay, which we feel was a lot only to have these issues.

Excellent but...

The barn was spacious & comfortable living up to its online description and photos., with many positives including a well-kitted out kitchen. The owners were kindly flexible with our arrival time and easy to reach when various issues arose during the course of our week's stay. Negatives include rickety dining room chairs that could have been dangerous. Also the "water tower" shower leaked water under its screen swamping the floor. More precise descriptions of parking arrangements & key storage would have been helpful too.

Absolutely lovely country retreat

This converted barn was very true to the description but actually even more so in the flesh! Everything was very clean - the kitchen was well furnished - the beds were really comfortable - it was warm - big spacious dining area and gorgeous living space! Excuse the weird punctuation but the comma and full stop have stopped working on my keyboard - presumably in awe out how brilliantly we rate this place! Thank you so much for a really fabulous stay - we really enjoyed our time in your beautiful barn and we'll be back!

Caffreys Cottage

A perfect base for visiting the Cotswolds. The owners were very helpful and we loved our stay. Lower Swell is a beautiful, hidden gem and the Heart of England Way in the doorstep was a real bonus.

our stay

we enjoyed our stay at caffreys cottage and found it be comfortable. however, we found the bathroom arrangement to be problematic as water was spread everywhere. a shower would be a better provision. the beds were clean and comfortable but the storage is poor in both bedrooms. i also think the bedroom in the water tower needs to be described as difficult for access. the stairs should be explained as very steep and a possible disadvantage for older people.

This is an absolutely fabulous property in an idyllic location. It has luxurious fittings throughout and we loved the heated flooring! The hosts were perfect - they kept in touch but we’re not obtrusive. I cannot recommend this highly enough and would definitely stay again. Thank you for a five star experience!

Excellent Location

The converted barn is excellent, location spot on for several local villages - several local farm shops - the main barn sleeps 2 x double beds with 2 x singles in the old water tower just across a small rear garden. Very happy with the property / location and comms with the owners.

About the host

Hosted by Mike Newton

Host profile image
I live near Ashbourne in Derbyshire, the so called "Gateway to the Peaks" but I have always loved travelling to the Cotswolds for long weekend breaks and holidays. I felt the time was right back in 2016 to purchase my own country bolthole in the area and be able to explore even more of this beautiful part of the country.

Why they chose this property

From the moment I first walked into Caffreys Cottage, I immediately felt at home and the feeling of space generated by the open plan ground floor was inherent from that moment. The Cottage has the benefit of all modern facilities but also has the character features that I was looking for.

What makes this property unique

I believe that the Cottage is a real home from home, is bright and airy in the summer but also cosy and snug in the colder months. Furnished beautifully, comfort has not been compromised and the location is perfect to take full advantage of all that the Cotswolds has to offer.
