About this property

Spacious and luxurious barn with stunning views

Penny Barn was recently converted from a shippon, or cow barn, on the former Duchy of Cornwall dairy farm of Botternell.
Located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and only 5 minutes from the World Heritage Site at Minions on Bodmin Moor, there are stunning views from the house up to Twelve Mens Moor above, down across the beautiful Lynher Valley below, and on a clear day right across to distant Dartmoor.
Outside there are several seating and dining areas from which you can enjoy the views, or have a relaxed meal or barbecue.
Upstairs in the house there's a master bedroom with kingsize bed and en suite shower room, plus a double and a twin room, both of which share the large family bath/shower room.
Downstairs there's a large kitchen where everyone can gather to eat round the refectory table, an even larger sitting room with comfortable sofas around the woodburner and a large flat-screen TV. There's also a cosy and sunny "snug", with a second TV, and a luxury double sofabed if required. And finally, the games room with table football, darts and various garden games.
From the house there are a variety of fantastic walks, either up on the wild moor above, or down in the beautiful river valley below. Within a few minutes drive you'll find the old mining engine houses at the World Heritage Site of Minions, the Hurlers standing stones, Sterts open air theatre, beautiful Golitha Falls, and a variety of trout and even salmon fishing on the Lynher or Tamar rivers, and at Siblyback Lake.
Further afield, within 30-40 minutes you can reach the surf beaches of North Cornwall, or the quiet fishing coves of South Cornwall, the Eden Project, various National Trust properties such as Lanhydrock and Cotehele, or the history and culture of Plymouth.
All in all, Penny Barn makes an ideal base from which to explore everything that both North and South Cornwall have to offer.

Stunning location

A fabulous location, far reaching views and very peaceful. 3 good sized bedrooms and plenty of living accommodation for the family. Good sized kitchen. My preference would be to clear out some of the cupboards, lots of left over cleaning materials and food which got in the way and left little space to store our own. Otherwise a great spot if you want to explore the North and south coast. As long as you can brave the cornish lanes! Thank you for sharing your home.

Excellent home from home country barn

We had a brilliant holiday staying at Penny Barn. Very spacious and homely barn. Lots of local walks, country pubs and 30 min drive to either North or South coast.

Perfect for a quiet getaway

Penny Barn was a perfect place to stay for us as a family of five. It has lots of space to either be together as a group or to find a quiet place. It is really well furnished, very comfortable, and has all the amenities we needed - including really good WiFi. We were absolutely delighted with our stay and hope we can visit again.

Unsere Erwartungen wurden übertroffen

Die Bilder ließen uns auf eine schöne Unterkunft hoffen. Was uns dann erwartet hat, übertraf unsere Vorstellungen.

Beautiful barn conversion - everything we could ask for and more.

A beautiful property set in lovely countryside. We had a fantastic holiday. The barn was everything we hoped for and more. The children wanted to stay forever. We had some great days out and highly recommend the Hidden Valley Discovery Park nr Launceston - we arrived just after opening and spent the full day there. The owners recommend the train from Liskeard to Looe which was beautiful, as well as a couple of pubs nearby (The Racehorse and The Manor) - both served fabulous food and were extremely welcoming. All in all, we had a brilliant family holiday and absolutely loved Penny Barn. We couldn’t ask for anything more. Thank you!

Beautiful cottage. Clean, roomy, everything you need.

We had a wonderful stay. Off the beaten track, but just right for a restful, beautiful vacation. We walked miles a day, drive to sights, and came home to games and a terrific library. We were sorry to go!

A beautiful house with everything you need

The house and the decor are very nice. There is a lot of space. Everything is very clean and well equipped. A little bit disturbing were the creaking floorboards and steps so that the one who was the first to wake up woke everyone else. The garden is very nice, but we could never use it because it was too windy.

Lovely!

A beautiful home from home in a lovely country location. We had a fabulous time walking and exploring. Thank you for sharing your house with us. Unlimited wifi access would have been a bonus for the younger people in our party. Leigh & Dave Norfolk

Great place to stay, with lovely accommodation

Stated for one week in Aug 2016. Eight of us. The competitive ones loved the table football and darts! Lovely garden with far reaching views. Nice bottle of wine treated us on arrival and accommodation is well maintained. Great rooms, and kitchen was great. Great communication from owner. Followed owners recommendation for 'The Manor House'. A great place to eat with something for all. Would recommend anyone to stay.

Wonderful barn in an idyllic location

Penny Barn is a wonderfully converted barn that comfortably housed eight of my family for a week, near North Hill, Launceston. The set up of the barn was perfect for us, four bedrooms (one with en suite), a large kitchen / dining area and separate spacious living room filled with board games and books to enjoy. There is even a separate games room with table football and darts in case you get caught out by the rain or fancy competing against family members for the ultimate trophy: pride! The barn itself is situated beautifully atop one of the may hills in the area and the view from the garden (where you can enjoy your breakfast outside on a warm morning) is stunning. Rolling fields with cows and sheep to one side and Twelve Men's Tor on the other - the latter being a great climb to capture an amazing 360 degree view of the area. Mr & Mrs Webb provided excellent recommendations for local walks, pubs, shops and other entertainment ideas and we felt very much at home during our stay, with friendly neighbours either side to welcome you and offer advice or support (such as fire wood). The tranquil experience has led to each of my family demanding a return next year, which is a true testament for how great this barn is to stay in!
