Rural peace close to 6 Roseland beaches, with log burner and summerhouse
With delightful views over the surrounding countryside, Lamorna Cottage is a perfect place to relax, unwind and enjoy the best of South Cornwall, including numerous great beaches nearby. Part of an attractive stone barn on Tucoyse Farm (no longer a working farm) which dates back to the Doomsday Book. Period character features include stone elevations, wooden framed windows, broad slate sills and exposed beams. A comfortable and freshly-decorated lounge now with a log-burning stove and Smart TV, spacious dining room, newly fitted kitchen with washing machine and dish-washer. And upstairs (newly decorated) the bathroom and two bedrooms (double and twin) with new beds. Plus free WiFi throughout. In addition to our own lawned garden with a new summerhouse (containing some fun beach gear) hidden behind the willow tree, there is a further walled garden (shared) with lawn at the front. Also French doors at the back opening onto a graveled courtyard area with benches, perfect for an al fresco breakfast. There's also a stone plinth designed for disposable barbecues. We're just two minutes from Polmassick Vineyard; 1 mile from The Crown at St Ewe, a great traditional pub with good food; and 3 miles to the lovely beach at Caerhays Castle. The very popular Lost Gardens of Heligan are only 3 miles up the road, Mevagissey is 4 miles away as are at least 5 more decent beaches, each with its own character. The Eden Project is a short drive. Waitrose has just opened up on the way into Truro, a cathedral city which has plenty of other decent shops. Tesco and Asda are also within reach. (One guest arranged delivery from Sainsbury's). The coastal walking along the Roseland Heritage Coast between Mevagissey and St Mawes offers some of the most spectacular and unspoilt scenery in the country, including hidden beaches and coves, tiny fishing villages and majestic sea cliffs (now designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).

A great location but the property needs some TLC! As a dog friendly cottage, it is not really. The garden is not fenced and by the road. We were told that the dishwasher was not working and then there were bi tea towels to dry up! 2 days after arriving and asking about this, we were informed that the machine was now working. The washing line in the garden was broken and only usable after finding a couple of screws ro hold it up!. All in all, we would not go back to this property which is a shame due to its great location.
Not recomended.
We had a super week in this lovely part of Cornwall. The house was spacious, well appointed and very very quiet. St Austell and the local beaches were in easy reach and the stunning coastline yielded great walks. With Eden and Heligon nearby there was plenty to keep us occupied.
Lovely 2 bedroomed cottage. Very well equipped in quiet location near to Mevagissey.
Really enjoyed our stay, very peaceful and relaxing and a nice location to base our trips around Cornwall.
The cottage is well situated to explore the surrounding area and beautiful towns and beaches. A car is needed, but everything is within close driving distance (Carne beach is about a 15 min drive, Mevagissey about 20 min, the Eden Project less than 30 min). The cottage is well equipped with a well researched and helpful guest guide for the area, selection of books and games, and the kitchen has everything you need. Note that there is no bath (only a shower) but it's really a minor point, it's a lovely cottage that we'll be staying in again!
The property suited us two adults very well. The space was as described, comfortable, and big enough for our needs. The garden is separated by a very minor road which was a surprise but there is a shared gated grassed courtyard attached. We liked being out of the way and enjoying evening walks along the quiet lanes.
This is a lovely cottage in a fabulous, peaceful location. There are no amenities close by, so you have to drive which was not a problem to us as we combined shopping with other trips. Close to the lovely fishing port of Mevagissey which had lots of bars and restaurants as well as a fish and chip shop. St Austell was only 5 miles away where there is an Asda and a Tesco. The cottage had everything you could possibly need - extremely well equipped and obviously recently refurbished. The only very slight comment would be that maybe a slightly larger television (thought the one that was there was a very good smart tv). Also maybe another set of crockery as there was sonly 4 place settings - this was fine as it is a 4 person property but as it has a fabulous full size dishwasher it meant we put the dishwasher on more than we needed!! The other slight criticism was the check in/ check out times. You couldn't get in until 5pm, and had to vacate by 9am. Even taking into consideration covid, this is still quite a large window and most other properties we have rented are check-in from 2pm and vacate by 10am. Nonetheless a fabukous holiday in a wonderful cottage - we will definitely return.
What a absolutely beautiful property. It was everything we could have wanted and more. It was like stepping foot into someone’s home rather than a rental. Nothing was missing, every small detail was thought about and the location was perfect. A great base camp to explore the delights of East Cornwall. I would book this property again in a heartbeat! Thank you for a wonderful holiday!
Lovely cottage - had a problem with the washing machine - user error😊but the lovely lady at the mgt company came out the same day and sorted it - great cottage for visiting Lost Gardens of Heligan and Eden
This was in a great location for loads of beaches, walks and Eden/Heligan. The lounge and kitchen were great spaces (more plates and some newer pans needed). The beds were comfy and bathroom fine (shower OK but 5/10). We didnt get to sit out in the garden much as it was cloudy - but it was well looked after. Recommend staying here for sure. Just to note there are no local facilities and pub is a very steep walk away. We went knowing this and it was what we were looking for.
Beautiful countryside, tranquill setting. Well equipped cottage great for the family and dog. Beautiful beach very close by (5/10 minute drive) . Great base to explore from. Our first trip to Cornwall but definitely won't be our last
Just returned from a wonderful week away at this comfortable property. Can honestly say it was the most well equipped holiday rental we have ever stayed in.
Beautiful location with lots to do but a car is definitely essential as there are very few accessible footpaths close by and the lanes are narrow with no footpaths. There was however a large field close by to exercise the dog.
The host and management company were very responsive.
Would highly recommend and definitely book again.
Had a great week at Lamorna. Lovely cottage with lots of space for the family. Really quiet location with easy access to some fantastic beaches… Need to plan ahead though as quite a drive to grab any supplies.
Charming cottage in lovely countryside. Well appointed inside. Bit disappointed with dog walking from the house and poor weather but otherwise good holiday.
A superb stay in a perfect location. The house was perfectly equipped with everything we needed for a recharge of the batteries. The house was clean and covid compliant, with all steps taken for a great stay. Thoroughly recommend
A lovely peaceful stay. The surrounding area is so quiet and beautiful, and the property has excellent safety procedures for the current moment. Very relaxing and would certainly stay again!
Nice comfortable property, good location - nice countryside all around and beaches / walks / Mevagissey close by. Overall a very nice property. Lucky with the weather too - spent a couple of days on the beach! Negatives - bit confused about which garden belonged to the property and the section we used was across a road. A quiet road but with a dog, you couldn't just let them out. I guess the kitchen could have been a little better equipped - a frying pan big enough to feed an army and almost too big to go on the stove top for example.
Lovely location, close to Heligon, Eden project, beaches. Nothing is too far although you do need a car.
Cottage was big enough for, essentially 4 adults and 2 dogs, well equipped and comfy.

About the host

We bought Lamorna in 2016, and look forward to spending large parts of the year in this lovely spot. We live near Oxford, but have spent many family holidays in and around Cornwall. Walking the South West Coastal Path over the past few years, this stretch from Charlestown to St Mawes along the Roseland Coast stood out for its lovely beaches, spectacular cliffs and great villages. And the unspoilt rural lanes just inland make this the perfect location. We're planning to explore further over the next few years.
Why they chose this property
We love being close to so much interesting coastline, combined with a peaceful rural base.
