Prinsenboat Studio, house boat on the 17th centuary Prinsengracht of Amsterdam

The Prinsenboat Studio

Create a memory of your stay in Amsterdam on board the Prinsenboot that you will cherish forever.

We take pride in offering a residence that is warm, inviting, comfortable and romantic. From the first day of your arrival at The Prinsenboat to your last day with us, we will do our utmost to ensure your experience lives up to your expectations.

If you are celebrating a special event such as a birthday, anniversary or reunion, we can help make it a unique experience.
You will immediately notice the difference between The Prinsenboat Studio and an Amsterdam hotel.

Children are thrilled to stay on The Prinsenboat. Maybe even more than adults. They are fascinated by living on a house boat where they can experience life on the water and enjoy watching the waterfowl and passing boats.

The Prinsenboat Studio consists of a very comfortable and romantic Studio of 27m2 from where you have a water view of the historic 17th century Prinsengracht with its patrician houses from the Dutch Golden Age.
When opening the large sliding windows you immediately feel the vibrations of the Prinsengracht.

The canals were, and still are, fundamental to Amsterdam, of great cultural and historical importance.
In 2010, the World Heritage Committee decided to add the 17th century canals area in Amsterdam to the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Prinsenboat is located, in the Prinsengracht, in the midst of all this beauty.

We had to say goodbye to the old Prinsenboat but we succeeded in building a new Prinsenboat with all modern conveniences; such as floor heating, your own private bathroom with shower, toilet, and wash basin, while preserving the old exotic features such as the opium bed and the wood carvings.

The location of the Prinsenboat couldn't be more perfect; all major attractions of the city Center are a 10 or 15 minute walk away; Museumplein, Anne Frankhuis, Magere Brug, Hermitage museum, Heineken brewery, the trendy Albert Cuypmarkt, Bloemenmarkt, Waterloopleinmarkt etc.
Nightlife is also within walking distance; from the clubs on Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein to the famous Gay Venue street; Reguliersdwarsstraat.
No need for a taxi after a night out.

The Prinsenboat Studio is part of The Prinsenboat and offers you a private studio of 27 m2 with a breakfast bar with fridge, coffee and tea making facilities, microwave, toaster, cutlery, cups, plates etc. Everything you need for a relaxed breakfast .
In our experience, our guests prefer their privacy more than being woken up early in the morning for breakfast.
Breakfast is not included. Neither do we provide breakfast items.

Unfortunately, the strict rules of the city of Amsterdam prohibit us from having a kitchen in The Prinsenboat Studio, which means that we cannot offer you cooking facilities. You have no stove and no sink.
Fortunately, around the corner, in the Utrechtsestraat, there is a wide variety of nice international restaurants. In the nearby, trendy, Albert Cuyp area you will find, next to the street market, also great authentic Surinamese dishes and a wide range of reasonably priced eateries.

The sleeping area with an antique king size teak bed, 160 x 2.00m. is separated from the rest of the studio by a large antique wood carved panel from Indonesia. The legs of the bed are huge dragons; chase the dragon (smoking opium) ……… We found it in Indonesia, in what was said, an opium kit.
The couch is extendable to a bed of 1.40 x 2.00 m. And is suitable for two persons.

The Prinsenboat Studio has a maximum capacity of 4 persons.
We have a minimum of 3 nights. (sometimes 2 nights as an exception, the calendar will automatically show what if an exception is possible.)

Wake up in the morning to a spectacular view of the canal of the Prinsengracht, take a walk through Amsterdam, come home at the end of the day in the tranquility of your private studio on the water, relax and watch life on the Amsterdam canals pass by.

Experience historic Amsterdam in a very special way; live on the water!
Welcome to The Prinsenboat Studio

You do not need to bring towels. We provide everything you need.

The houseboat was everything we wished for, fabulous 😀 A peaceful cosy haven in a busy city.

Peter was very welcoming and accomodating with our late check in. There was everything we needed for our stay. The houseboat is in a great spot and it's easy to get around the whole city from there. The guests at breakfast, swans and ducks, set us up for a cheerful day. Very happy with our choice and hope to visit again 😀

Great location

Prinsenboat is ideally situated for exploring Amsterdam with good local amenities and transport (if required) into the city center. The shower is excellent although the tiny shower room sink takes a little getting used to. We walked everywhere with the aid of the street planner (provided) and because the city is designed on a grid pattern it was easy to navigate all routes. To sum up we stayed as tourists but felt as if we had always lived there. Oh, and if you want to bring food home, try Meet and Greek round the corner on Utrechtstraat....very tasty

Ideal place to stay

Very close to tram line, and lots of amenities in the area, perfect location in the city, the owner was very welcoming... place is clean and tidy, and very quirky, particularly enjoyed watching the boats go past whilst enjoying a decent cup of tea in the living room area

A lot of space in the centre of Amsterdam.

We stayed on the houseboat from the 28/9/17 to the 1/10/17. It was our 9th visit to Amsterdam since we discovered it in 1989. Previously we had stayed in an assortment of hotels, some good, some bad....but all quite small. Amsterdam is expensive and hotel rooms are at a premium, the smaller you can get away with the more money you make. The houseboat however is wonderfully large. You get an enormous bed, a lounge area with settee and TV, A dining area with kitchen and a bathroom. It is warm and comfortable and very clean. Peter our host is was very laid back, and extremely helpful. Be warned however when you eat looking out on the Prinsengracht, you will spend your time waving at all the boats that pass, and feeding an assortment of birds that know how to attract your attention for food. We really enjoyed our stay as you are away from the very touristy areas, but within easy walking of the real Amsterdam. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Steve & Judy.

Fabulous location, great place and a perfect host!

The houseboat is perfectly located just to the south of the centre of the city about 30 mins walk from the train station, in a very hipster-trendy area, with superb bars and restaurants all around. There is a tram stop right on the next street too! Communication before the trip was superb, we were met at the houseboat by the owner Peter who told us everything we needed to know. The stay was excellent, the beds were good & comfy, and all in all this is the best place we have ever stayed in Amsterdam, better than any hotel or hostel and we will definitely return here again.

A Fun Adventure on the Prisengracht!

I stayed here with my husband for three nights to kick off our honeymoon in July, and we had a ball! The location can't be beat - in a beautiful, quiet residential area away from the loud tourist hordes, our temporary home was an oasis for us. It was the perfect size for a couple, we had everything we needed to be comfortable, and we loved spending our evenings watching the boats slide by in the canal and feeding the ducks and a swan that swam by our open windows. We also loved the funky decor - totally our style! The owner, Peter, was nice, and I'm glad that we asked him to pick us up at the airport. If you know Amsterdam very well, then the place is easy to access via tram from the Central Station. However, we had just arrived from a trans-Atlantic flight, were very jet-lagged, and I had last been in Amsterdam in 2004. SO, having Peter pick us up and take us directly to the house was perfect (I don't think we could have found it on our own otherwise). If you're looking for a typical touristy, Ritz-Carlton experience, this is not the place for you. However, if you're open to a unique, funky, and fun experience when visiting Amsterdam, check out the Prinsen Boat house! We hope to stay there again on our next trip to Amsterdam!

Wonderful Experience

My wife and I stayed here with our thirteen year-old grandson for three nights. It was a terrific experience and a wonderful place to stay - especially if you're open to a bit of adventure. Who wants to stay in an expensive and routine hotel room when you can reside on one of Amsterdam's historic canals? This place is very clean, quiet, safe, and convenient to walking to Amsterdam's great sites. We especially liked dining at the kitchen table while watching and waving at the innumerable tour boats that glided silently past. It's a bit intimate-- but what European accommodation isn't? Warning : if you're used to staying at Claridges in London or George V in Paris, this is not for you). The owner is very accommodating, friendly and helpful. We recommend this place wholeheartedly.

The location, is first class A home away from home rather than a sterile hotel room so very cosy and comfortable. Quick to warm up in an evening and all we needed for a short stay in a wonderful city

Very good!

Absolutely loved my stay at the prinsengracht. The gentleman which owes the boat is very nice and flexible, the boat was very clean and decorated beautifully. Beds very comfortable and the places warms up very quickly which I loved as I'm always cold!! The area around the prinsengracht is lovely quite quiet but the local bars and restaraunts are lovely! They sell very strong beer so beware! It's about a 20-30 minute walk from the centre and 45 minutes to the red light, but the trams are very reliable and very close. All in all I would definitely go and stay again! Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable!

Beautiful House Boat

My partner and I wanted to have a romantic weekend away to help soften the January blues and staying in The Prinsenboat did just that. We had such a lovely stay and The Prinsenboat is the perfect place to relax and enjoy what Amsterdam has to offer. It was wonderfully warm inside and we had everything we needed from clean towels to a hob to cook some food when we wanted. The bed was fabulous, so big with wonderful views out onto the canal. Many happy memories made and we will certainly be coming back again! Thank you Prinsenboat!

Perfect, Romantic getaway!!

This place came highly recommended from friends of me and my wife and they happen to be very picky travelers so that made this an obvious choice for us. We couldn't have had a better stay. The lay-out of the place was great. Everything was very clean and well-maintained. Right in the heart of Amsterdam. We are definately going back to this houseboat!

Perfect spot!

Our experience renting the Prinsenboat was extremely satisfying. The boat was clean and comfortable for our ten day stay. The location is perfect for walking; convenient to both the museum district and the city center. The immediate neighborhood is lively with numerous good restaurants. We bought tram passes to cover our first week of our stay but did not really need them. Dealing with the owner was also a pleasure. He was responsive and reliable in all of his dealings. At the end of our trip we chose his car service to the airport. It was reasonably priced and really beat wrestling with our luggage on the tram and train.

A special place to be in Amsterdam

When we planned a few days sightseeing stay in Amsterdam with the family, we were looking for a special place to stay, something typical, not the 'normal' hotel type of accomodation ... so a house boat seemed to be the natural choice. And it was a very good decision to choose Peter's Prinsenboat: a cosy appartment on the Prinsengracht, so all important sights and attractions within the reach of walking, public transport nearby and also shops and restaurants etc. Perfectionists would perhaps have expected a more attractive or romantic boat-like exterior appearance of the boat, but who cares when being inside and enjoying the view on the canal just one meter outside the window. The interior / equipment was in a good shape and provided all that we needed for a few days. A few more dishes would have been great for a family of four, but really no problem. Our host was very friendly and helpful, and we appreciated his relaxed attitude. All the descriptions which we had seen on the internet before we booked appeared to be correct. We would like to say "Bedankt!" and can really recommend the Prinsenboat to all who plan a great time in Amsterdam.

Welcome in Amsterdam

We had a wonderful stay in Amsterdam. The houseboat is bursting with charm. Every detail was taken. The view from Hausboat is fantastic. It is centrally located but not in the middle of the city. A supermarket is located right in the area. Tip: In the vicinity of this there is a bar in the basement. Here you can celebrate New Year's very good. Jessica was very helpful. The only thing missing is a Hausboat the oven.

absolutely fantastic

My review title says it all! You will love the Prinsenboat it's situated on a beautiful canal in a gorgeous district of Amsterdam, with many bars and restaurants just outside the front door, flower stalls, book shops, supermarkets, liquor shop, you name it, it's all there. Inside the boat is divine, with a better central heating system than I've got in my own house. The shower is fast and hot! The bed is beyond big and comfy, and you can lie in bed watching boats float by, amazing! It's got everything you could need in the kitchen, and the floor to ceiling windows are just perfect for sitting in watching amsterdam life go by. I carnt recommend Peter (who is a dream to deal with, so very helpful and relaxed) and his fabulous boat enough. Book a weekend at this boat and you'll never stay in a small hotel room again. We went as a couple for our anniversary and will return and take the kids, they will be heaven watching the swans and ducks out of the windows. Book it, book it now I promise you won't be disappointed. Thanks again. Suzy and rob x

Great houseboat stay!

Great location only 30 second from the tram. Stayed here with two adults and a 23 month old and had a great time. Had fun feeding the ducks and birds and waving to all of the passing boats. Houseboat had everything we needed to cook our own meals. Market was less than 5 minutes walk. The mattress was a little stiff but that was really the only thing we could suggest improving. Great place to stay if you are in Amsterdam!

Idyllic Amsterdam experience

Amsterdam is a unique city with great history. Looking for an experience truly representative of the city, we elected a houseboat-based stay rather than a hotel. It was a great choice. Prinsenboat is ideally located at the intersection of a primary ring canal and a major thoroughfare. To us, it offered an iconic experience. It is within easy walking distance of the major attractions and many good restaurants and specialty shops are very close by. The boat is very comfortable and, though not luxurious, the advantage of having the canal traffic (boats and ducks) only inches away is a more than acceptable trade-off. To the extent that there is a downside, it only relates to the timing of our stay, which coincided with the annual "King's Day" celebration. It is a great party--in truth, a bacchanalia, and the Dutch do know how to party!!! Nonetheless, the huge crowd and the endless parade of party boats going by our windows were very well behaved. We highly recommend Prinsenboat to anyone seeking a truly unique and memorable experience in this great city. Peter is very helpful and easy to work with--a great host. Charlie & Sheryl Florida, USA
