As described, communication with owner excellent. Lovely rural cottage in amazing location. Really comfortable, the owner has thought of everything. Clean, spacious, warm and inviting. Would highly recommend.
We had a lovely stay in Ciderhouse Cottage. As a family with a disabled child, the wide doorways, step free ground level bedroom and wetroom were brilliant. Clean, well equipped with comfy beds and super quiet location, we may well return!
We enjoyed our stay very much. The cottage is cosy and specious. Everything you need is there. The view from the hill is stunning. Nice walks from the cottage.
As to the area of South Wales: it was difficult to keep our teenagers engaged and busy all week. A week in these surroundings was a little long for the boys.
A lovely cottage in a tranquil setting. Cathy was great and very helpful. Cottage had everything we needed. Even though you are a bit rural, there are a few other buildings around you and it only took about 10 minutes to Monmouth which has plenty of shops. Thank you for a lovely stay.
My family and I really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful little cottage. Plenty of room with the bedrooms and 6 beds. We were in the muscle of a heat wave but the owners supplied fans and made sure to do everything to keep us comfortable. Nice welcome basket and she brought us milk for our morning coffee along with delicious farm fresh eggs!
Very nice. Poor directions best and simple access is from Monmouth. Not Ragland, some of the country roads from other access points are single track roads.
get to Monmouth and then load satnav with NP25 5NL
Water very hot in taps could do with warning sticker. Wet room very good, however no seat. Gravel drive is not wheelchair friendly and would benefit from concrete slabs from disabled parking area to Cider house cottage. Owner very pleasant and friendly. We had a lovely week.
We really enjoyed our time at Cider House Cottage. We found several places to visit near at hand. The children enjoyed being on a farm and being able to play ball games and frisbee in the field. The accommodation was good, well equipped and comfortable. The hosts were friendly and called in several times to make sure all was working well. The views were lovely. We all had a great holiday.
Just back from 3 nights staying at Ciderhouse Cottage. Superbly clean and tidy and slept our family and a friend with ease. Beautiful views and plenty of room for the kids to run about across a very very quiet lane. Cathy is the perfect host. Thank you
This is a lovely house. Very well equipped, totally clean and with a lovely bright yet traditional atmosphere. Would definitely come again. Take good notice of the driving instructions and preferably locate it on the map before leaving, the post code is close but not spot on.
We had an elderly relative with us and the cottage was everything we needed and set in a beautiful location on the owners farm. A short drive to shops and the pretty town of Monmouth. We loved exploring the area and enjoyed walking both close to the cottage and further afield in the Brecon Beacons
We had a nice stay unfortunately the weekend we picked was storm euingine, we arrived to no power
Nice to be with family in a lovely home from home.
I do think 1 cupboard in the kitchen needs to be empty to put your own things in food etc as I couldn't do this I ended up leaving some stuff behind
We had a lovely long weekend at Cider House. I didnt realise it was quite so rural but it was not an issue for us. Beds were lovely and comfortable. Cottage was very clean and cqtered for. Cathy was very helpful.Highly recomnend.
Beautiful cottage with all the comforts of home. Every need anticipated. Comfy beds, lovely bathrooms, spotlessly clean everywhere. A wonderful welcome from the friendly and helpful owner, we can’t recommend this place enough, just delightful, we will be back!
Cathy was an excellent host and presented us with a beautiful cottage. - lovely and warm! It’s in a very rural location which was exactly what we wanted. Facilities were excellent and WiFi vital as there was limited mobile reception. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The disabled facilities are really well thought out. My sister is in a wheelchair but can transfer onto a chair. Wet room was really good with plenty of room for a wheelchair. Beautiful location and very comfortable with a warm welcome. We had a great time.
A wonderful place to stay - clean, cosy and such welcoming hosts. The barn is well equipped and very comfortable. The views from the front driveway and trig point at the back are stunning, as we're the starry night skies. A lovely area to visit. Thank you Cathy and Dave for your superb hospitality and kindness - you made our weekend.

We started self catering at Penylan Farm to open up our beautiful part of the world with visitors aiming to make them feel as at home and at peace here as we do.
We do our best to make your visit one to remember, providing local knowledge on great places to visit, tourist attractions and seasonal events, and of course the best places to eat.
Monmouthshire has recently been named the top food destination in Wales, with friendly local hostelries and Michelin starred restaurants. We’ll point you towards great locale produce and Dave will happily explain his approach to sustainable farming and biodiversity.
Why they chose this property
Penylan Farm enjoys a hilltop setting atop of the beautiful Monmouthshire countryside. We are just 5 miles from the medieval market town of Monmouth, birth place of Henry V and are nestled between Abergavenny, the Wye Valley, Forest of Dean, Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains.
On our immediate doorstep is the historic Hendre Estate which was the family home the Rolls family (of Rolls-Royce fame). Local footpaths connect to Offa’s Dyke or you can follow one of our own custom designed walks from the farm exploring the history of The Rolls Family.
Once you have recharged your batteries there are plenty of local activities to keep you going including water sports on the River Wye (voted the public’s favourite river in England and Wales) and cycling in the Forest of Dean, or along the ‘Peregrine Trail’ following the Wye to Symonds Yat. We have done the leg-work for you, find something for everyone, at any pace, at any point of the year, just ask us for tips.
What makes this property unique
Escape the hustle and enjoy Penylan’s more gentle pace of life, in one of our three charming self catering cottages. Spend your holiday on our farm in unspoilt hilltop tranquility, ten minutes from the historic market town of Monmouth. Awake to the sound of the bird song, take in the fresh welsh air and enjoy wonderful local walks and panoramic views from our small working farm focussed on environmental stewardship.
