About this property

Cottage in Croesor. Snowdonian mountain retreat. Fast internet with vista views!

Our cottage, with private parking and open fire with fuel, is located in Croesor, within the Snowdonia National Park between Cnicht (a pyramid shaped mountain popular with climbers and hikers) and the Moelwyn range of mountains. There are varied and stunning walks available straight from the front door! The seaside at Morfa Bwchan (Black Rock Sands) is a short drive away near Porthmadog, and boasts large stretches of beautiful yellow sands, set between the castles of Criccieth and Harlech. There is a local shop and cafe/restaurant in Llanfrothen, two miles away. The nearest big supermarkets (Tesco/Aldi/Lidl) are in Porthmadog, 8 miles from Croesor. There is often a cafe in the village, as well as at the Brondanw estate a mile from Croesor. The Brondanw estate, with its beautifully kept gardens was the family home of Clough Williams-Ellis, the famous architect of Portmeirion, 10 miles from the house.

Our living room is equiped with an open fire with fuel, two sofas, TV with Amazon Prime stick, DVD player, table with 5 comfy chairs, kitchen area with an oven and 4 hobs, microwave, fridge with small freezer compartment, kettle, toaster, washing machine and dishwasher. After a long day enjoying the mountains and beaches, enjoy the open fire while soaking in the panoramic views from the sofa!

Upstairs you will find the main double bedroom, The second bedroom with two single bunk beds, and a large bathroom with bath and shower. Down stairs there is an additional bedroom with a small double bed and TV.

The enclosed front garden is equipped with an Al fresco dining area, overlooking the Croesor valley and the Moelwyn mountain range.

The cottage situated in Croesor, near Porthmadog is well equiped for any family holiday and has been let for over 30 years. The property is available for rental all year. We recommend walking to Beddgelert, following the stream over Nantmoor, through the Eyri forest and along the world famous Aberglasslyn pass where you will find several pubs and restaurants. The pyramid shaped mount cincht(meaning Knight) and the Moelyn mountains. Have a short walk along the mountain river, where there are opportunities to play pooh sticks or just give the dogs a walk.

Hike up the Roman road, to catch the Ffestiniog steam railway at Tan y Bwlch station, where there is a gentle walk around the very scenic lake. You can also walk down to the Oakeley Arms through majestic trees and down the densely Forested track.

The quietest place I’ve ever stayed.

All previous reviews cover it really. The house has everything you need to have a great week, cook large meals if needed, heating more that sufficient to battle even minus temperatures outside, modern windows that open (something we’ve found old properties often don’t have) for summer months. It’s location at the end of 2 miles of single track (plenty of passing places) means no through traffic. One house and a farm beyond us meant the only vehicles we saw was delivery drivers. The quiet was just amazing. The minus for us was it seems they rely on the previous tenants heeding the instructions and hoovering before they leave. Someone before us obviously didn’t as when I came to do so the hoover revealed a lot of golden retriever like long hair in the lounge. Our dog has short hair. I spent almost an hour scrubbing away with the hoover but its suction was not as it should be (I have the same hoover and it’s much more powerful). So my only suggestion would be add a 40 cleaning fee to the booking and hire someone up to the task. That said, we will definitely book again. But maybe bring our own hoover.

Christmas in Croesor

We had a lovely 4 night stay over Christmas in this cozy little cottage in a tranquil little village at the foot of Cnicht mountain. The fireplace was a delight, as were the lazy-boy sofas and the well equipped kitchen. The stairs were a bit of a challenge for my knees, but good training for hiking up in the hills and the valley. Plenty of walking opportunities from the village and the most incredible view of Cnicht and across to Snowdon, weather permitting!

Peace and tranquility

Plenty of local walks requiring no vehicle once you have arrived. If you're looking for peace and tranquility, this is perfect. Open fire, cosy lounge and central heating as back up. Beautiful views from front windows of mountains. Remember to keep gate closed as local sheep are free to roam. This is our second visit and we're still discovering new walks and places of interest. Nature at it's best!!

September stay.

Nice property and very nice location in a friendly village. Not the best of weather but it's nice to come back and sit by a cozy coal fire. I found it hard to get the hang of the TV but as we were out so much iplayer was sufficient if we really wanted the TV on. No other observations, we had a great stay.

We loved the cottage and the location

We had such a great week in Croesor. The cottage was lovely - very comfy beds, great shower and well stocked kitchen. We misread the info and thought we needed to take our own duvets/pillows etc but they were supplied! (You just need your own sheets, covers, pillow cases) We absolutely loved the area. Incredible views from the windows of the cottage including sheep and a horse in the field opposite. The valley is beautiful - my 2 young boys loved exploring the old quarry and hillsides around. Plas Brondanw and it's cafe just down the road is a must. We also enjoyed conquering Snowdon, Harlech beach, Criccieth and Caernarfon Castle. Could've easily stayed for 2 weeks! Thank you!

Good location for walking , property needs TLC

Location very good but property needs a good clean and some TLC. Strong smell of dog in the living area and hair on the carpets. Generally needs a spruce up and a lick of paint.

One of the best

A very comfortable week in a very beautiful place. Remote enough for us, we like the quiet and the nature, but a lot of things to do without going too far. The house is exactly as described and has a fantastic outlook at the front. Can't really fault it and will be going back.

Beautiful scenery very remote

Nice cosy cottage very comfortable, we were lucky with the weather would not want to be there in bad weather as it is so remote and only reached by single track road.

Perfect mountain hideaway

We are return visitors and always enjoy our stay in this simple little terraced house. We like the quietness and remoteness of the spot, the mountain views, the open fires (when needed!) and the access to walks and the nearby countryside. The WiFi is not great, but for a peace and quiet this place is hard to beat. The cottage had all we needed for a great stay, but remember to bring toilet rolls!

Stunning views and a nice affordable remote accommodation

The accomodation is a cozy little cottage where me and my family enjoyed lovely moments in the evenings by the fireplace. Ideal if you want to have a quiet retreat holiday. The views all around are unique and amazing, making for lots of walking opportunities. The nearby public pool was empty, however, less than half an hour away is Black Sands sandy beach, where kids enjoyed swimming and body boarding.

Perfect Cottage

Reluctant to tell anyone about this perfect cottage, incase it’s all booked up when we want to return. Clean, comfy and well equipped, excellent location for walks and views of mountains and valleys. Short drive to Portmadog (Tesco, Lidl, Aldi) and Lleyn Peninsula.

Sunny Snowdonia!

Nice cosy house and very friendly neighbours. Lovely views from the front windows and very nice walks on the doorstep. There's also the outdoor swimming pool 2 minutes down the road, filled from the mountain stream and very cold but invigorating! Easy to get to Porthmadog, down the coast to Barmouth or up to the Zip World attractions. We had very good, warm weather while we were there!

Great stay in the beautiful Croesor Valley

We had a wonderful stay. The cottage is well equipped and cosy. Kitchen very easy to find out way round with everything we needed. Fire was laid for us when we arrived and plenty of wood, coal etc - which was very handy as the weather was cold overnight and the house does benefit from the fire being lit. Toilet roll, cling film, dishwasher tablets all available in plentiful supply. No issues getting on the wifi, which is on the slow side - but you don't visit this part of the world to spend time on the Internet! Firestick a nice touch so we could watch stuff on catch-up. Friendly, helpful and quick responses to enquiries from property owner. Very friendly and welcoming neighbours, who were fascinating to talk to. We have visited Croesor before, but staying in this historic village for a week was wonderful. The views from the cottage are spectacular and you can be in the mountains within a few minutes walk. Would gladly recommend a stay here and we hope to be back again soon.

Lovely peaceful cottage

Dear little cottage, very warm with the coal fire , plenty of coal & kindling left for us. Great views from sitting room & bedrooms. We had 2 dogs & the garden was enclosed & safe. Lovely walks from the door, along the valley or up into the mountains. Altogether a relaxing pleasant holiday.

Beautiful location, cosy cottage

This little house was perfect for the three of us (two adults, one child), as we each had our own room. We loved the open fire and generous supply of coal/wood, as it grew chilly at times. The views from the cottage were stunning and it is a very peaceful and jaw-dropping location.

Breathtaking views with walks on your doorstep!

If you are looking for a remote Welsh village that is not over run with tourist, with incredible walks on your doorstep (I did the walk into Beddgelert and the walk up Cnicht), with also you have breathtaking views as soon as you open your front door (for those who are not into walking), also there is a bench outside to sit on to admire the views which are incredible in the morning and evening. The cottage has everything you could wish for during your stay with lovely neighbours. I enjoyed it that much I will be booking again to stay.

Disappointing

Heating fan in bathroom is terribly noisy. Absolut disaster! Rooms are tiny and there's serious issue about the cleaning. Surfaces are sticky and dirty. The old recliners of the living room are uncomfortable. We loved the fireplace in the house. All in all I would not recommend this letting to my friends.
