Lovely location and felt quite safe in Simon’s town
Location was excellent for Boulder Beach and Cape of good hope
Would definitely recommend to family and friends
We were very comfortable at Mermaid Cottage. Very light with lovely views over False Bay. Pleasant sitting room with good dining area and small but good kitchen. Oven a little slow but good hob. Washing machine and D/W very good. Double bed could be larger and mattress more comfortable. Bathrooms not new but perfectly adequate with very good hot water supply.
Electrics could be updated to be more user friendly. We were disappointed that the satellite TV service had been discontinued as we were unable to watch the news or sports channels. Gina the agent was always on hand for any queries.
We stayed for four days in mid January. The house is very accessible for trips to the Cape, Boulders Beach, Chapmans Drive, Cape Town and anything in between including Kirstenbosch gardens. Also it’s about 75/90 minutes easy drive to Stellenbosch and the Winelands. The house is very comfortable and well equipped on a quiet road with good views over False Bay and outside seating areas although we weren’t able to use them due to high winds. It is about ten minutes drive from two good sized supermarkets although there is a convenience store very close.
The check in with the local agent was very easy and the deposit paid to the owner directly in pounds sterling rather than ZAR was returned without difficulty. Wi-fi was available with good speed.
We would highly recommend this property.
Everything about mermaid cottage is just perfect, location is fantastic, Just a short walk to penguins and the centre of Simonstown where everyone we met was friendly and accommodating.Cannot find fault with anything about our stay here. And just to put the cream on top of the cake England won the cricket,we can’t wait to visit again. We are charmed with the light, clean, pretty cottage, so quietly tucked in, off the main road of Simon's Town. As the weather was so pleasant, we could make use of the terrace and enjoy the morning breeze with a view of the sea.
Karon was exremely helpful (with an extra reading lamp for the one bedroom) and Gina was there to welcome us warmly.
A friendly, warm experience!

Breathtaking views from a peaceful oasis
We had a fantastic stay. We felt immediately at home. The cottage is located on a small quiet residential road. It has magnificent views, especially from its sun terrace - a perfect place to relax and read a book. Bookshelves filled with a good selection of books were much appreciated.
WIFI and Netflix were just the icing on the cake for our screen dependent teenager but the WiFi was also very helpful for the adults to connect on WhatsApp. Barry, who welcomed us at the property was very friendly and chatty. We truly loved the property and we would definitely love to stay there again on our next trip to Cape Town.

Our stay at Mermaid Cottage
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mermaid Cottage. Everything was just right and the only complaint was the constantly strong southerlies which were a bit of a surprise! We had lovely walks around Simon's Town and visits to explore the Cape Point national park. We would very happily book again.
Also to mention we found the letting agency to be most helpful with everything.

Very well kept cottage with perfect location
We are a swedish family of five that spent 3,5 weeks at this lovely place. Simon's Town and Mermaid Rock Cottage was a perfect "base-camp" for us.
The Cottage is so well kept. Everything was clean and nicely in order when we arrived, it felt very welcoming.
The service from Barry and Karon at Engel & Voelkers has also been very good, they always answered e-mails and phone calls immediately.
We hope to come back soon again!

Excellent property with a fantastic sea-view
This is a beautiful property with a fantastic sea-view and overlooking much of Simonstown. The location is excellent, 40 min from Cape Town and about the same to Cape of Good Hope. You find beautiful beaches after a 10-15 minutes nice walk and only 3 min away by car. The Town Centre is 5 min away by foot with a number of good restaurants and shops. The Tourist office is on the way. The best location you may find south of CT and with a very comfortable water temp. You find Boulders Beach very close. Public services such as a health centre within walking distance. Tennis and horse-riding 7 km away.
The propoerty is in a very good condition and very well maintained. The veranda is the best in the neighbourhood, spacy and overlooking the Sea. Good TV connections/channels so may follow developments in SA and internationally. Service by the Agent/Owner is very good.WE WILL GO BACK TWO WEEKS IN NOVEMBER 2015 !!! We have strongly recommended this property to our Swedish friends and colleauges. / Staffan and Birgitta

perfect
Perfect holiday cottage to explore Cape Peninsula from. Light, clean, stunning views over Simonstown, excellent safe yet secluded characterful location close to shops and amenities, fully equipped with everything working. Luxurious for two, comfortable for four. Sip Cape wines on the sun terrace watching whales or stay warm inside listening to the wild winds off the mountain. I'd go again.

Perfect location
We had just under a week at Mermaid Cottage & it wasn't long enough. It's a great location for sightseeing and relaxing by the beach. Handy train links into Cape Town, close to Cape Point & Table Mountain and convenient for the airport.
Simon's Town is a lovely historical town with some good local restaurants.
The cottage was perfect. The children (and adults) loved it, relaxing on the sun terrace was a great end to the day. Beautifully & tastefully decorated and very well equipt and just a short walk to the beach.
Would definitely go back.
Nothing bad at all to say about this house!
We met Janene, the property manager, upon arriving at Mermaid Rock Cottage. She provided fruit for our stay, and showed us around the cottage, which is lovely.
The views of False Bay are simply out of this world!
Would stay again!
Lovely place right near the heart of Simon’s Town. Good price and easy check-in/check-out. Lovely views of False Bay from the deck where we saw tons of breaching whales. Bring binoculars. No issues.
The house was just what we needed! Location was great. Short walk to the Boulders Beach and town. A le to view whales in the bay. Janene was very helpful and responsive.
My husband and I spent 4 lovely nights in this charming cottage overlooking False Bay, in Simon’s Town, Cape Town, South Africa. It had everything we needed and the local manager who checked us in was fantastic and provided lots of recommendations for places to go, sites to see, and where to eat. We enjoyed walking down to the beach to see penguins and other wildlife. We were even once greeted by a baboon calling out from the top of a house nearby. The view is breathtaking! You can see the sunrise over the bay in the morning as you drink your coffee on the portico or from the seating area inside. The owner has numerous potted plants as well as grape vines adorning the entrance way and outdoor seating areas. There is a beautiful mosaic mermaid mural which represents the naming of the cottage. Communication before and during the stay was with both the owner and the manager was excellent. We would love to stay here again in the future. A few days here left us wanting more.
We booked this house for the view and we really loved in. The street where the house is located is very calm, so every evening we feeled like we're the only ones out there. The barbecue ofcourse also made the outside place feel like home. The garden was maintained well. Inside the house we loved the space and the double bathroom. The contact with the host was really good.
We had a lovely stay. The property is very nice, great location close to penguins and easy drive to other attractions, and has great views.
The listing could be clearer that there is a cash deposit and early arrival/departure fee. Not a problem, but that only became clear later when we signed the contract.
Overall was lovely we enjoyed the stay. Jen went above and beyond even had sweets and hot chocolate all setup for the kids.
Place is cold in winter maybe another heater would be great.
The house was clean and set up very well. Didn't need for anything. Jenni was amazing. Her recommendations for food was ON POINT!!! We lost wifi on day 2 and she tried her best to get it operational again.
Very quiet neighborhood. Walking distance from the beach (Boulders and others), sea side restaurants and downtown Simon's Town shopping and dining. Excellent manager, very responsive via WhatsApp. The only downside is the distance from downtown Cape Town but we didn't mind the ride with such wonderful views. Overall, great experience. Would come again! Kudos to Jen. ❤️
This is a lovely cottage that has all the amenities you need. Checking in with Jenni was painless and she went over everything we needed to know. We loved that we could walk to Boulder Beach and to Simons Town. We had some beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Would highly recommend this property and hope to return someday.

Why they chose this property
We adore the quiet beauty of the area around Simon's Town and the lovely, unspoilt beaches and rugged walks immediately accessible out of the back door. The location is pretty, calm and safe; also easy to get to interesting, lesser known places anywhere on the peninsula.
What makes this property unique
From the deck watching the sunrise or sunset across the sea is very special. By night we get a magical view of stars and glittering lights across the bay. The new pergola and braai facilities on the deck offer the opportunity of meals while enjoying glorious sunlight or moonlight playing on the sea, and the movement of the waves to get a sense of the weather conditions. Alternatively breakfast or dinner in the protected area means we enjoy being outside away from wind and sun. This False Bay sea is warm, lovely for swimming. Local penguins are a delight! We may choose a breath taking walk up to the water tower behind the Cottage or the Naval Steps a little way along Runciman Drive. The quiet road and safe neighbourhood mean the children may visit the local store or Simon's Town without us worrying. On cold winter nights its cosy with curtains drawn, heating on, chilling out on comfortable sofas, dipping into nice selection of DVDs and books, with the bonus of sea view - its great!
