We had a wonderful time staying here with friends over new year. The upstairs living space was fantastic for the two families of four to hang out in (children aged 12, 13 and 14). The views are wonderful and we managed a great walk. The kitchen was well equipped and the owners were really helpful when we needed to get in touch. Would highly recommend staying here as a group.
The property was spacious and set in a stunning, quiet location. The view from the patio was breathtaking. It was very well equipped with everything you may need and more. The pool table was a bonus. We visited Bolton Castle and Forbidden Corner. Both were great family fun days out. We even travelled on the North Yorkshire Moors steam Railway and visited Aysgarth Falls. The owner was very helpful and answered our queries promptly. They kindly left chocolate and wine for us to celebrate my husband’s 70th. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning.
Another amazing stay in the house. Perfect size for all of us, with everything we need. Kids love it, and the peace and quiet is fab. Booked again for next year!
The property is spacious, with the addition of an upstairs lounge with a pool table (great for teenagers). All the beds comfortable and its very quiet at night.
The kitchen is rather small in comparison, and the only space for food is a warm? larder cupboard.
The other quirky thing is the lighting system, two way switches which are baffling when you first arrive and a buzzy light fixture. Also there were several defunct bulbs, but the caretakers did come and sort that out. All in all, a good place to stay.
Beautiful property, perfect for a family get together. Shame not to be able to enjoy the outdoor space so much in January but it would be lovely in the summer.
Lots of space for big groups to spread out, lovely bedrooms and enjoyed both log fires.
Really clean and prompt response to a couple of questions.
WiFi also great, which is brilliant for those working from home.
Thanks for a great stay!
A lovely property with comfort perfect for a large family the kids loved the pool table and swing outside! Peaceful setting ideal for relaxing after a few trails and climbs Thankyou!
Property was clean, spacious, very well equipped and cosy with stunning views. Beautiful villages.and local pubs serving home cooked food a short drive away and Forbidden Corner practically on the doorstep. We had a very enjoyable stay and will be back.
Great house with good facilities. Lovely location near a nice community pub. 5 miles or so from a good coop supermarket. Great walking and sightseeing country.
It is dog friendly, but not upstairs, and the second lounge is upstairs. Understandable, but its not explained on the listing. We had a great stay.
A very special place to stay. House is faultless. Beautiful views and walks from the doorstep. Great pub in Carlton within easy walking distance. We also enjoyed delicious meal delivered to door by pickledradish.
Beautiful cottage in well kept grounds surrounded by stunning views. A perfect base, we loved every minute. Rebecca the manager was a great communicator and super helpful. Louisa.
The photos of this property do not do it justice. It’s so much nicer than it looks in the photos. So much space for a large family to spread out and the views are spectacular. If you’ve got children with you a visit to Forbidden Corner is a must.
Great house located in a wonderful place for walking
The house is large, well equipped and easy to access and is exactly as described in the detils. There is plenty of inside and outside space and everything worked perfectly. There are lots of walks in the immediate vacinity and we never went more than about 5 miles by car all week! Nearest extensive shopping is in Leyburn, butchers, bakery and Coop, etc. This is an excellent spot in all seasons and one of the best we have found for our annual family gatherings.
Lovely short break away with extended family. The house was beautiful and had everything and more. Lovely views, kids loved the games the games room, and plenty of outside seating choices to capture the wonderful views from. Would definitely book again
Fantastic property , photographs do not do it justice , clean and well stocked . Beautiful views over the Yorkshire countryside .locally so much to do and see . Only minutes drive from forbidden corner which is well worth a visit . We will definitely book another stay
What a fantastic location and property. The property has everything you need and the owner was friendly and helpful in all of our communications. We would highly recommend and will hopefully get to stay here again in the future. Thank you for your care and attention to detail that really makes the property so special.
Beautifully quiet and picturesque, a walkers dream in terms of location.

Mile House East is a cottage that has been in our family for nearly 50 years. It is a home from home to my brother and I and our families. The children adore it..
Why they chose this property
Mile House East is a cottage that has been in our family for nearly 50 years and is currently owned by brothers Peter and Andy McKinlay. We have been able to refurbish and upgrade the property but retain the original features in this lovely old house. Last year we were able to extend the first floor into the old barn and create a large second living space as well as a fifth bedroom and second bathroom. Our families regularly use the cottage ourselves and we now have plenty of space. With three growing children in each family every corner of the dales becomes our adventure playground.
What makes this property unique
Wonderful countryside at your front door. Close to both Leyburn - a thriving market town where you can pick up anything you need for your stay. Community owned pub - The Foresters Arms - witin walking distance. Forbidden Corner - voted Best Family Day out 2012 - a few miles away.
