Converted barn / Oast House with amazing views and EV chargers
Hare Farm Oast is a very special place to stay. The large unique farm building has been converted and finished to a high standard as a light and spacious holiday home. It sits in the unspoilt Brede Valley with its own half acre plot and extensive far reaching views. We have carefully breathed new life back into the old oast with its three roundels, originally used for drying and storing hops. Using traditional craftsmanship and materials in its renovation, the oast showcases its unique heritage and beauty, whilst providing ease and comfort to those who stay there. NEW for 2024: 2 x 7kwh EV charger points

The property was lovely, all bedrooms were of a good size and had a lovely open plan dinning/lounge area. The local area was beautiful with fantastic walks and a cosy local pub. Would definitely stay again.
Special long weekend for immediate family. Wonderful house with tons of character in a very rural location but only 15-20 mins from Rye, Hastings, Chapel Down winery and pubs galore
Gorgeous setting for our weekend gathering. Great to be able to use outdoor space and be comfortable indoors too. Bedrooms all generously sized. Location lovely!
Just returned after a long weekend celebrating our daughter’s 30th birthday. We were a party of 9 adults and 3 small children. The house was cosy and plenty big enough for us all. Happily stay there again, although we had to be super vigilant at all times as our grandson is only a year old and already walking, so the stairs and the fireplace were very hazardous to him. I would definitely recommend with older children. We were shown around the lambing sheds by Annie and saw some lambs being born. A visit to the Red Lion is a must. All in all a great time, Joanna was very helpful in the run up to our stay and during.
A perfect base for a three generation family holiday. The Oast was delightful and immediately felt like home. Tasteful décor and lovely open spaces with views of the valley. Plenty to do in the area and a great pub, The Red Lion, in the village.
Property worked well for a large family group of 10.
Bedding was lovely and we had good communication with owner and their family who live next door who were on hand to help with any issues. There was a great outdoor space where we had family games.
If we were to make any suggestions it would be for an extra 2 garden chairs to save bringing out indoor ones and the small sofa bed to be replaced as it was very uncomfortable for sitting on. But otherwise all good thank you 😊
A wonderful property, exactly as described, and with beautiful views. Very peaceful and private, and it worked very well for our extended family, particularly the large open plan space, and none of the bedrooms disappointing. We will be back!
We hired the Oast for a family get-together to celebrate a significant birthday. It was absolutely ideal, with good sized bedrooms and plenty of bathrooms (the showers in particular are worth a mention). The private garden was perfect for relaxing, with the sights and sounds (baa!) of the adjacent sheep farm. It’s a short drive to the seaside or into the countryside for walks. I would delighted to recommend it.
Quite with a view. Great local pub within walking distance.
Building and contents was to a high standard. Would recommend. But remember to take basics such as salt and pepper.
We stayed here as a group of friends for New Years. The property is exactly as in the photos, and even had a fantastic Christmas tree set up which was a welcome surprise.
The rooms are spacious and complete to a high standard, and the kitchen is very well equipped. We had a food shop delivered and they had no problem finding us.
The property was also very warm, so we hardly needed the fire.
There are good walks and pubs nearby, and the coast isn't far away at all.
Some of the spotlights need replacing as they were flickering (and the switches could do with labelling - as there are a lot!), but other than that no complaints at all.
Wonderful family break. Everything we could ask for at Hare Farm. Home comforts, spacious but also cosy, spotlessly clean and perfect location. Thank you to our hosts for the Welcome basket. Highly recommend.
We had a long weekend with my daughter, husband and 4 year old twins and Joanna was superb from the initial booking, right through to departure. We felt completely Covid safe. The Oast house is lovely and has everything you could possibly need including stunning views. It is bright, spacious with lovely features making it really special. Although the Oast House is near to the owner's own house, there is absolutely no issue with privacy. Not once did we feel overlooked. This is a really special place.
Our parents bought Hare Farm in 1985 when the Oast house was a redundant building (the last hop harvest on Hare Farm was in the 70s) and so they used it as their potting shed. The farm is now run by my brother, Stuart, in one of the most beautiful parts of the Sussex countryside. Myself, Stuart and Annie (sister-in-law) restored and converted the Oast house in 2010/11. Alongside the sheep farm and conservation schemes, we offer both the Oast house and a shepherds hut as self-catering accommodation.
Why they chose this property
Hare Farm is often recalled as a true “Darling Buds of May” setting, made all the more so by the oast house which holds so much history and beauty architecturally. We could not let it collapse and disappear. We have invested in restoring it to its original beauty, and converting it in to a high-spec holiday home for our guests to all enjoy. Such a unique and historic feature in the Sussex landscape is now secure for generations to come, and we are very proud to have enabled this to happen.
What makes this property unique
Hare Farm Oast is unique for its building and situation. Firstly it offers an idyllic setting (far from the road with spectacular views across the Brede Valley). Secondly, the oast house is one of the most stunning properties one could wish to stay in. It is spacious throughout, has three roundels, so six round rooms to admire and many of the original features are retained (exposed brickwork, timber, vaulted ceilings, hop equipment). Thirdly, it is finished to a very high spec, including luxury master bedrooms and en-suites, a fabulous round kitchen with Corian worktops and a Rangemaster cooker, oak and tiled floors with underfloor heating throughout the downstairs, Sky Sports and more. It really is a very special place to stay.
